Lennox Lewis was known to clinch during fights, as well.

Not sure what clinching, in and of itself, proves.

Wlad usually initiates more than Vitali did last night.

No it is not debateable. I think you overlooked the obvious. Wlad may have beaten a better level of fighters, not by much but you have failed to consider Wlad's losses. Wlad has lost to a level of fighter that Vitaliti kayos. It isn't debateable unless you want to dicker for the sake of dickering. Vitali is vastly superior and always will be.

Lennox clinched but not as ugly as Wlad.

Wlad has earned the distinguished Triple Black Belt from the John Ruiz School of Clinch/Humping.

Stick to supporting David Tua Pete

Wlad has more 1 shot power than Vitali, it's not even a debate.

I'm talking ring durability, not between fights durability. You know, that ability to stay vertical when fighting Corrie Sanders and Lennox Lewis.

He looks nowhere NEAR as confident now as he did when he was undefeated.

I think fat peter really was fairly confident then, and now that he's stepped up and lost, he actually realizes he's not as good as he thought, by a long shot.

I was watching Vitali/Lewis again on Youtube 4 days ago and it still surprises me how little damage Vitali was able to inflict on Lewis over 6 rounds despite the amount of clean shots he landed on Lewis' mug. Vitali did actually put his weight into the punches too, specifically his straight right hands which caught Lewis on the chin a few times although only buckling Lewis once momentarily in the 2nd round. Seems Lewis had little to no respect for Vitali and decided to just come at him with no regard for Vitali's power.
I think Vitali is better at fighting guys in the 6'2 and under range like Kirk Johnson, Sam Peter, and Danny Williams as opposed to guys who are near or almost as big as he is. He can bully the smaller guys and keep them at bay which is more difficult to do against guys like Lewis. Which is another reason why I think Vitali vs Wlad would be a hard call looking at their styles, handspeed, size and ring smarts.

He got put on his ass 3 times and almost stopped by Jameel McCline of all people.

I agree. Vitali's 1 punch power is nothing special, he is not really a puncher. Vitali's armpunches are still fairly heavy though, and take their toll after a while, because he is just a huge, strong guy, and he has very good accuracy despite his awkward looking punches.

Also yes he does better against smaller guys, he is one of the few giants who do a great job of fighting tall. He still put in a respectable effort against Lewis though, it was a pretty even fight.

He's heavy handed for sure. You can feel the power in his punch when he lands that jab. The gloves look small on him too.

Think about that list of fighters, right there...Johnson, Peter, Williams...and you can include Sanders and Lewis.

Almost every one of them was at or near a career-high weight (up to that point of their careers) when they fought Vitali.

They all have to pay the price if they underestimate their opponent. What excuses did all these guys have for being overweight against Vitali?

Sorry ... You guys are living for the moment ... I'm looking at solid records.

In less fights Vitali has more KO's in the 1st and second rounds I'd wager beating Wlads RATIO by 10%.

THAT has everything to do with power because no one can argue Vitali is faster or more accurate than Wlad.

Vitali has stopped fighters Wlad could not ... that's power if all else is equal and most agree Wlad has the edge in just about every other department except CHIN.

As for Tua .... I dropped his spam eating ass when you guys were still grabbing onto his jock because I knew what time it was for him through the grape vine.

This post shows you might never have seen a boxing match. Vitali is faster. My eyes are burning from that comment. You might just copyand paste from other posters. It is safer.

KO ratios aren't purely the result of punch power....aggression can be just as important factor.....we'd all agree that Vitali is more aggressive.....he's more likely to go looking for a knockout whereas Wlad is conent for a decision......it doesn't mean that he doesn't hit as hard as Vitali

Just like there is no debate that Vitali is better than Wlad there is no debate that Wlad hits harder. You are exactly right. Vitali has a high kayo ratio because he is heavy handed and he fights at a fast but steady pace and lands a ton of punches.

Do you factor competition level into any of this?

Neither of them have a lot of early knockouts when they've stepped up. It's hardly a determination of anything.

Don't worry about Pastre. He doesn't watch boxing. He posts here to push his own fear mongering and thats about it.

There's little question that Vitali takes shots better in the ring.

That's not what I was getting at, I was disagreeing with you saying that Vitali had the durability to be "a consistent champ".

He wasn't even able to hobble up to the ring for more than one title defense (against Danny Williams).

Shitty chin or not, Wlad's been consistent in the last couple years as champ, convincingly beating everyone he's fought during this reign as champ.

You can't be a "consistent champ" if you can't make more than one defense as champ.

According to Petre, a higher KO ratio = better 1 punch power

    Jesus christ petre.

Wlad has consistently done more damage with single punches throughout his whole career Petre, if you followed boxing you would know this.

Vitali has the higher KO % through being more aggressive, and more consistent in his output of powerpunches. WLad often fights incredibly safety first, doing nothing really but jabbing.

There are numerous examples in boxing, of fighters with a higher KO% than bigger punchers, through aggression, level of comp, and a host of other factors.
