NOT EVEN CLOSE>..HOPKINS...Toney has never been consider top 50...Hopkins was that just after beating Trinidad...and breaking the championship fight record.....then add in Hopkins dominated teh consensus best Light Heavy in the world in Tarver...and then dominating the best MIDDLEWEIGHT in the world...Hop has to be top 10-20 greatest fighter of ALL TIME.......

Anyway as of right now..>HOPKINS has past Roy Jones in the all time great list...but if Hop is #99...Jones is #100.....NEXT MONTH we will have clear picture.......

even BETTER if JONES do beat Calzaghe....HOPKINS vs. JONES II is pretty much guaranteed to happen IMO....

 

This is a fairly good read "however" I still give Jones the nod on both ends. Hopkins middleweight run is only as good as how highly you rate his competition.

In reality, his only win against a legitimately bigger guy is the Tarver fight.

Regardless, Hopkins run at middleweight is a record (just as Calzaghe's is at 168) but I still give the nod to Roy on his win at heavyweight. It's safe to say that Hopkins has a career at middleweight simply because Jones couldn't make the weight any longer.

Hopkins gets a nod as an all-time great...just not over Jones.

Let's say Jones beats Calzaghe decisively...those who give Hopkins the nod today...does it swing the other way?

I guess I don't put as much emphasis on light heavyweight fights involving middleweights...junior, medium or super sized.

Hopkins is smart...he's taking fights he doesn't consider to be that risky. Ones where he matches up well in.

Hopkins hasn't faced an established light heavyewight since Tarver. It's the only one he's fought.

Jones will help tell how good a light heavy one Calzaghe was/is...but even then, Jones isn't much close to his prime so Calzaghe's expected to win.

 

Fair enough, I don't see it as you do, but I can understand your point of view and respect it.

 

As if Roy would have had any trouble whatsoever completely obliterating and stopping Pavlik if he were anywhere as near his prime as Hopkins is.

Roy is simply greater in every way, greater resume, dominated greater opposition with greater ease, fought and beat bigger men, again, with greater ease, beat Hopkins, head to head.. there is no comparison, they are both all time greats but Roy is debatable as top 3 whereas Hopkins is not.

 

Jones will solidify his legacy by blasting Calzaghe out.:cheer:

Bernard Hopkins was greater before this fight...only strengthened the argument on the weekend.

 

right now, I think its Hopkins but its pretty close, both their respective work at middleweight--Lighthw, is pretty equal but with a edge to Hopkins. Both division were pretty weak, and while they were some solid guys, none were p4p type. RJ not facing Dariusz M. hurts him legacy wise, even though I dont think DAriusz ever really wanted the fight. RJ got 3 huge wins that, imo, are better than any single win Hopkins has, these wins being Ruiz, Toney, and of course, Hopkins himself. But he got also some much more disastrous loss, vs guys that Hopkins handled handilly ( even thought Glen Johnson hadnt peak when he fought Hops ). But if RJ beat Calzaghe next month, he takes the top spot of the best fighter of his generation once again.

 

I think he did invent 171 to drag Merqui Sosa specifically down to it.

Hopkins has two fights at 175 and is 1-1. Roy is obviously the greater light heavyweight.

its funny that an aging fighter with a smaller frame in wright did a helluva lot better vs hopkins than pavlik did at 170. yet everyone was on pavliks dick and wants to push wright aside.

 

It's really a shame what Wright's done to his career, though.

He's made it easy to push him aside.

I still would love to see him fight Abraham or Pavlik.

Style-wise, I think Abraham-Wright is very intriguing.

 

Well, doing in to Hopkins/Pavlik I can see why everyone felt that way considering their (Pavlik and Wright's) results vs. Taylor and the fact that Pavlik is in his prime. But I do agree that Hopkins win over Wink is underrated as hell.
