Just for shits n giggles. This has Toney-Barkley written all over it, only I cant envision Pavlik being able to take as much punishment as Barkley did. Toney TKO 9.
This is just what I meant in the other thread. After Pavlik-Taylor I you were praising him more than anyone here. But you wouldn't be X if you didn't do this so it's all good Toney would win this but not as easily as Hopkins because he didn't have the movement and at super-middle he was easier to hit than Hops.
Do you enjoy stalking me? And my opinion on Pavlik hasnt changed much. If someone had opened this same thread prior to Sat, I'd have said the same thing. Toney by one sided stoppage. I never felt Pav could beat Calzaghe, and I still dont. And I thought he would beat Abraham, and I still feel that he will.
Dunno if Barkley is any tougher than Pavlik. Hell...Barkey was KOed by Robbie Sims, who wasn't exactly a power puncher. I can't see Sims doing the same to Pavlik. And I also think Pavlik is a much better fighter than Barkley was, especially at the time he faced Toney. I know that Pavlik may have been overrated up till now, but now I fear folks will be underrating him instead.
Broadwayjoe... And don't get offended I'm not giving you a hard time this time..just want to somewhat expand on what you're saying... we can't definitively say who is tougher between Barkley and Pavlik. Why? Pavlik was dropped and badly hurt by Jermaine Taylor...who couldn't hurt either Spinks or Ouma...while Barkley survived HEARNS twice! So even though the point you mentione dis also valid...it's not as simple as that.
Sly, I didn't say that Pavlik was for certain tougher than Barkley. I was just pushing back on X's assertation that Pavlik wouldn't be able to handle as much punishment as Barkley. I think sometimes Barkely's toughness is more legend than reality. I mean, come on...he was KOed by Robbie Sims. Sims was a pretty good fighter, but not exactly a knockout artist. And Barkley wasn't just hurt or dropped by Sims...he was KOed. And while surviving Hearns twice sounds impressive, in the first fight Barkely only survived because he landed a miracle punch. Barkley looked to be on his way to an early stoppage loss before landing the KO punch. Barkley didn't win that fight due to his toughness, he won due to a big punch that turned the tide when it looked like he might get KOed. Now some might say he was tough enough to survive Hearns' shots long enough to land his own bomb, but it was only the 3rd round! It wasn't like Barkely was Hagler shrugging off Hearns' best shots and walking him down. How much longer do you really think Barkley was gonna last if he didn't land that big shot that turned the tide? I know we'll never know...but it sure looked to me like Barkley was heading for an early shower. That is why the KO was so dramatic...not just that Barkely KOed Hearns, but he did it while getting his ass handed to him by Hearns. As for the second Hearns fight, not only was Hearns fading, but the fight was at Lightheavy and Hearns hadn't shown the power at Lightheavy that he did at 147, 154 or even 160. I don't think going the distance with Hearns in 1992 at Lightheavy demonstrates anything about Barkley's toughness. As for Pavlik, he was clowning around and got caught with his hands down by Taylor. That could happen to nearly any fighter who was clowing like that. Taylor never came close to hurting Pavlik like that when Pavlik wasn't fooling around.
::::X, you are a mean bastard. Pavlik would be a vegetable after the fight. I say this knowing JT was a sloth at 160 half the time. JT on his worst night would stop Pavlik dead.
This fight would be ugly. Toney breaks him down slowly and gives Pavlik a beating, stopping him in the mid or late rounds. Pavlik's face would be a bloody mess.
Nice signature. Plus that picture of Vitali punding Peter in the middle of his face is HORRIFYING! That's why a person should think twice before going into boxing.
I didnt say 160. I said 168. At 160 Kelly MIGHT last the distance with Toney, but would lose a lopsided UD. At 168 Toney stops him.
