This is one fight I wanna see in 2009! I woulda said Pavlik, but Kelly has business with Abraham at 160. After Taylor beats the shell of Lacy, it really makes sense for this fight to happen. I know Kessler would want the fight, JT has never shyed away from fighting the best, and I'm sure HBO would love the fight. So I'm predicting we'll see this fight, prob in the spring. Who wins? I say Kessler stops him late. JT does provide some stylistic problems for Kessler though. Moreso than Pavlik would provide. JT's speed and jab would make the fight competitve for awhile, but in the end Taylor just has too many defensive flaws for Kessler to expose. Plus Kessler is by far the straighter puncher, and is a much better thinker in the ring. Kessler by late TKO. I think it'd be a great fight though. I also wouldnt mind one day seeing Kessler move up to 175 and fight Bad Chad. But I think he should deal with Taylor first.
I'm expecting Taylor to impress against Lacy,... he's had a form slump, and I believe he's about to get it all back together again,..Jermaine's counter-punching abilities and power are seriously underestimated,... his jab is excellent,..as is his handspeed,... it's why he reigns supreme over Hopkins lest we forget... :crafty: we all want desperately to forget, but Hopkins arse is for Jermaine's to keep. I think Kessler has the more serious flaws,.. his head is too stationary,..and as Calzaghe exposed,.. if you attack his body he freezes up and backs off without any intentions to counter you... it's something Jermaine will be able to exploit. Taylor wins around the range of 7 - 5, 8 - 4,...
Taylor will make mincemeat out of Lacy, no question of that in my mind, but Kessler beats him handily IMHO- he could quite conceivably stop Taylor (somewhere around the 8th) MTF
I wouldnt say he had NO problems. Kessler won clearly, but Mundine win manage to win about 4 rounds. But JT is more physically imposing than Mundine, with a better jab, and will actually fight Kessler. Which in the end, will be his downfall.
I aint gon forget, and I think theres a good chance of it happening after Taylor beats Lacy. Honestly, who else is there for either guy to fight at the moment? None gives a fuck about Froch. HBO will probably push for Taylor-Kessler, especially if Taylor is impressive against Lacy. Ive never been a Taylor fan, but I'm heavily rooting for him on the 15th. I hope he beats the shit outta Lacy. Just so that after Kessler stops him, people wont say that Taylor was shot.
I'd favor Kessler over Pavlik even before the Hopkins fight. I think Kessler would stop Jermaine in a war.
As did I. And like I said, stylewise... Taylor is a tougher fight for Kessler than Pavlik would be. Kessler would stop Pavlik in one sided fashion.
That's my thoughts too...Kessler does everything Pavlik does (and it's amazing how quick people have been to turn on Pavlik- he's basic but still very good at what he does, especially at 160) except he does it better, is quicker, arguably hits harder and has a much better defense than Kelly does. Kessler beats anyone who can't adapt to his robotic, straight-up-and-go style, because he does it very well. Calzaghe was too tough and crafty, Hopkins would be too, Dawson might be too quick but other than that, Kessler beats what's put in front of him. Including Taylor, and handily IMHO. MTF
dsimon writes: What is so unfortunate is that Taylor, as i have said before has the potential to develop as a puncher. Frankly the left hook lacy fight is perfect for him to try this identity on. If Jermaine develops his power and ability this way and wins a couple maybe Kessler would be a good fight. Taylor has the natural ability of being a puncher... If he eer develops this ability he could be competative, bit it is a bit early and I don't see Kessler having any problems with him.
HBO might lure Dawson if Taylor wins and set up a fight between the two. Makes more sense, since Kessler was part of one of the biggest letdowns of HBO boxing in terms of ratings. Believe me, they won't spend another dime on him...
I'd also like to see this fight. Kessler is normally able to dictate a fight with his height and solid jabs that set up his power shots. Taylor's jab may be a bit overrated, but it's still a good weapon. I'd also favor the Dane, but i think it would be a pretty good matchup.
Dawson-Taylor would be the 2009 version of Nunn-Tate. A virtuoso one sided beat down administered by Bad Chad.
