Do you think he can do it? If so, how? What game plan can he implement against a huge hungry young monster with solid wrestling skills? Will Couture be forced to try to slug with Lesnar? Can he take Lesnar down and work him? Huge size difference between the two not to mention Couture is fighting age.
    Who do you pick?

Couture has to show Brock things he's never seen. He's gotta hit him, which nobody has really been able to do yet, and he's gotta be at the top of his wrestling game, and not allow Brock to smother him with his wrestling.

If he can frustrate Lesnar, that can really effect his cardio if the fight goes deep. His best bet is to frustrate him and hope Lesnar gasses.

Lesner's cardio is probably better than most in the UFC. Old man randy wont have more stamina

I think we will be suprised how much Randy has aged come his next fight. Lesnar via brutal mauling.

IMO, this is the worst matchup style for Randy. Randy has generally always been the better wrestler. Now, simply put. He's not. The size difference is going to be massive, the strength difference is going to massive. I like what TFK said about hitting him. That to me can be Randy's best gameplan, he doesn't want this fight on the mat. You can hope Lesnar gasses, but generally, world class wrestlers know how to condition.

Strength can be nullified. And IMO, wrestlers don't have all that good conditioning in comparison to the rest of the crop. Because not everything is decided on the ground and using examples such as Rampage, Coleman, Evans and Randleman who all come from a wrestling background, they all gassed in countless fights. So to say Lesnar is suddenly so comfortable as an MMA fighter in only his 3rd fight where his mma skills and conditioning is top level is just a wild guess at most.
Let's be real for a second now. He's shown ZERO submission skills and ZERO submission defense skills. He hasn't had somebody attempt a rear naked and we haven't seen him react to somebody mounting him or taking his arm. The only time we did was an ankle lock and as soon as Mir got a hold of his leg, Lesnar panicked and tapped out. Quite a bit aways from the cool and collected Noguira who was trapped in Barnett's knee bar for a good part of a minute and still wouldn't tap out or Don Frye who was trapped in Shamrock's leg submission and refused to tap.
So really, for all we know Lesnar could be a frontrunner who will cower if things don't go smoothly. We've seen these types of fighters.
I think Randy is gonna ask some serious questions and a lot of them won't be asked on the ground. It's going to vary, from dirty boxing, to some other very crafty maneuvers which Lesnar has never seen.
I'm not going to count out Couture at all. In a wrestling match I might but not in an MMA match.
Couture has submissions, he's even performed well against top submission fighters including Jacare Souza. He's going to show this demension we rarely see from him against Lesnar.

I don't think the Frye\Shamrock fight is a good example since Frye was so doped up on painkillers during that fight he couldn't even feel any pain, much less enough pain to make him tap.

You make some strong points Hanz. But my problem with most of what you are saying is a younger Randy. As far as a rear naked, I am not sure randy is big enough to have the hooks in and get his arms around Lesnar's neck:lol:

Strength can be nullified. So can size. So can speed. But to nullify all three is very very hard, and at this stage of the game, I don't think Randy can.

I will be rooting for Randy, so lets hope I'm wrong.

I'm with you. I'll be pulling for the old guy but I don't think it looks good.

One of the scariest things about Lesnar is how easily he kept Heath Herring on the ground with what was really piss poor technique. He was just so strong that he pulled or threw Herring back into a submissive position every time Heath tried to sweep or get back up.

That type of strength, combined with his size and speed, actually creates the worst possible foe for Couture.

I think TFK hit the nail on the head as far as the keys for Couture. He's got to out strike Lesnar, avoid the bottom, and win the grappling war.

Just so you know, you do realize Couture is almost eye to eye with Lesnar, right? 6'2 to 6'3. And you do also realize Couture has much more to his repertoire than just wrestling on the mat? This is MMA, not wrestling. Wrestling is only 1 aspect of the game. There are many things fighters have at their disposal which are outlawed in the sport which Brock Lesnar came from.
I haven't seen Randy slow down at all when he's trained his damndest. He looked fantastic in his last fight where he put the beatdown on 250lb brazlilian black belt Gabe Gonzaga.
I really think we're overrating Brock Lesnar and underrating Randy Couture YET AGAIN. Just my opinion.
The experience level between the two is ENTITIES difference.

Let's get real for a second. Heath Herring is.........who? That same dude who got taken down 18 times by Jake O' Brien? :dunno: Last I checked, his name isn't Randy Couture.

Sorry jarhead but that's the stupidest sh*t I EVER read. Lesnar is not f*ckin' Andre the Giant sized. If Randy wants that choke, that choke IS gonna happen. His size won't mean sh*t if Randy gets his back and locks the choke in. Lesnar ain't 8 feet tall and 900lbs. He's 6'3, 265. Although I've read he's actually 6'2.

That's exactly the fault in your argument. Does Randy NEED to take Lesnar down? And if he does go for the takedown, will it happen early in the fight? Or will it happen later in the fight when Lesnar is starting to feel fatigue, making him ripe for takedowns?
MMA is a complicated sport. Nothing is cut and dry. Expect the unexpected. Give respect to a man who has carried the UFC heavyweight championship at both 205 and heavyweight for many years.
And YES, Lesnar CAN get taken down. The question is how this tactic will be implemented by Randy and at what stage in the fight. But it can happen. Actually, no. It's not that it CAN happen. It WILL happen. If Couture has an intelligent gameplan, he'll get that takedown and he will end the fight with a choke.
And then you'll be back on here saying "Meh, Brock is a rookie, he has no business even fighting in the UFC."

I won't be saying anything like that no matter who wins. Obviously Randy CAN win. I never said he couldn't. I just don't think he will. Randy BETTER get the takedown, and he better get it right off the bat. If he doesn't Lesnar certainly will. Look at the end of Josh Barnett vs Randy to see what will happen if Lesnar ends up on top.

Piss poor technique? lol You are crazy dude, Lesnar if nothing else is GREAT at controlling guys under him. He did it perfectly to Herring.

Big deal. Did you ever check out the story of when Kurt Angle and Brock had a showdown in the locker room back when both were wrestling in the WWF and Kurt put the big f*cker on his back and made him look like a bitch? And Lesnar didn't deny it either. Herring has no wrestling skill or any real skill in general. He's just tough but he's sloppy with no real strengths in any specific areas in MMA.
Randy does greco, he's leagues superior to Herring in every way not to mention having a great mind. IMO, it's Lesnar who has to prove himself, not Couture.

Yeah, that came in the 3rd round after Randy was beating the sh*t out of him and gassed. And Josh has supreme MMA experience and cardio, not this 1-1 sh*t that Lesnar is running with. If Josh locked in his kneebar, Brock would be tapping within 3 seconds. I don't consider Brock Lesnar a true warrior. He's a big strong guy but he's a frontrunner who wants to be in complete control. He's not accustomed to being pushed or bullied. And when it happens, he won't react well. Once Mir locked that leg, Brock was screaming for mercy.

Of coure he was tapping, would you rather tap of get your ankle broken by Mir?

I can tell you just hate Brock, no big deal to me. If you don't see his potential, fine, I don't care.

I'm sure you'll be on here saying Randy is old when Lesnar wins.

Don't hate Brock Lesnar at all, I hate that he's getting a title shot in his short UFC career so quickly. 1-1 in the UFC and he's getting a title shot. I don't know man! Seems like some circus sideshow sh*t going on. Which is why I'm pushing for his failure. F*ck potential in this case. The real fight that should've been made was Noguira/Couture. And Lesnar/Mir rematch. Dana White is trying to cash in and make the most money possible while the timing is right. He wants to use Couture's name to launch Lesnar so he'll be pushing for Lesnar, a young gun, to win this fight.

Relax a little Hanzy:lol: just two mma junkies tossing out ideas about a fight.

Do I think Randy CAN win? Yes. Randy can win. I am just throwing in ideas why Brock can win and what will make it hard for Randy. Brock is not Andre the Giant. But his body is massive. I know they are the same height approximately, but the body sizes are so different which I am sure you will agree. I am not saying that a rear naked is impossible, but out of all the subs Randy will stop Brock with, the rear naked seems to be the least likely. I know this is not just wrestling, but Randy has relied heavily on wrestling in the past, especially against bigger guys. I am just saying a big part of Randy's game is wrestling, and in this fight, he is not the better wrestler. Just like TFK said, if he is to win, he needs to make this a true MIXED martial arts fight. The one part I can see Randy winning in is striking.

This is a must watch for me. If Brock can win, he's legit. If he can't we all know he has no shot at the title anytime soon.:nono:

I agree with the point of the title shot. Nog/Randy is the fight that should've been made. But seriously, can you really, as a grown up, complain about Dana White making the moves he did to make his company the most money possible? Is it perfect as in fair? No. But is it perfect in maximizing cash and PPV revenue. It is. If Lesnar loses, Dana cashed in on his cow. If he wins, he has a star. Nog is going to destroy Mir. And then Nog will get to beat the Lesnar/Randy winner anyway. I am anything but a UFC apologist. I think TFK can vouch for me on that. But the way they did this makes sense money-wise.

Brock Lesnar is on heavy doses of steroids. When some reporter was about bring it up, Brock stormed out of the room and later said "I never failed a drug test." Of course, he couldn't find the balls to tell the reporter flat out "I don't do roids."
That's ok. Randy's gonna choke the roids outta his big ass!

I just want Lesnar to win for one main reason. He has upside while Couture only has 3-4 fights left in him. I agree with you that he isn't exactly deserving of the title shot but it wasn't really his fault. Randy was gone, Mir and Nog agreed to do TUF and fight eachother after the show. THEN Randy came back, so it wasn't even possible to have Nog and Randy fight until after Mir and Nog fight. Lesnar just happened to be the new big thing and the fight with Randy ended up happened.

Now that Werdum is out of the title picture, who is there really?

It was agreed upon previously that Brock wouldn't be asked about doing roids in the WWE. They asked him anyway. That is why he got mad.

What he did in WWE shouldn't matter as long as he passes the requied tests now.
