:: De La Hoya: "Manny Pacquiao is Picking on Me" By Mark Vester Oscar De La Hoya disputes reports that he is a bigger fighter looking to pick on the smaller man. Speaking with Mark Kriegel of FoxSports.com, De La Hoya says that Pacquiao is the one who called him out. The two fighters collide on December 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. "He's the one who called me out, so he's picking on the bigger guy. I think the fact that I'm coming down to 147, a weight that I haven't made since I fought Arturo Gatti [in 01]. I think it's going to be a real struggle. I really do. I think it's going to affect me more by coming down than him going up," De La Hoya said. De La Hoya says that Pacquiao's weight gain, jumping from 135 to 147, should not hurt him in the fight. "He's fast. They say he's going to slow down a bit because he's going to gain about 10 to 12-pounds. Even a slower Manny is still fast. That's the beauty of this fight and it will be a fun fight," De La Hoya said. De La Hoya was quick to say that despite all of the pre-fight hype, he feels no animosity to former trainer Freddie Roach. Roach, the long-time trainer of Pacquiao, prepared De La Hoya last May for his clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr. De La Hoya sees a lot of holes in Roach's training methods and plans to expose them during the Pacquiao fight. "There is no animosity whatsoever. Freddie Roach is a great trainer. I respect him. He's a great person. I love the guy, I really do. We mutually respected each other when we were in the training camp together. He was with my family. He's a great guy. If he says I cant pull the trigger, Ok, we'll see come this December 6," De La Hoya said. "Absolutely [there are weaknesses in his training methods]. Freddie's weaknesses - there's many. Obviously I'm not going to mention them, but there are many. I've been up close and personal with Freddie. I've trained with Freddie for several months and I'm going to expose them."

It is funny and ironic to me that DLH is getting as much shit as he is for this fight when he has one of the best overall resumes ever. And the same people praise Hopkins who has done this with very few exceptions his entire fucking career. Tito Oscar Pavlik Winky are all as bad or worse.
the difference with Oscar is that he has no shame. He is actually trying to put himself as the underdog on this fight :: Is not just making this fight but actually trying his best to sell this shit like some carreer defining fight. This is nothing but a big paycheck for both guys. Oscar constantly gives reasons for people to hate on him.
Excellent, excellent point on Hopkins free,... what De La Hoya is doing is something that Hopkins has done on several occasions, and recieved monstrositous adulation for it, pulling up a big name fighter half his size to an alien weight,.. indeed, two wrongs don't make a right.
bernard was a career middleweight whose recent success at lightheavy (2 fights at 170 actually) came AFTER he turned 41. and yet he's fighting middleweights who are supposedly better than him. oh fucking no. the smallest guys that he ever fought were probably oscar and simon brown, who won titles up to 154. pacquiao in reality is a guy who should be fighting at 130 or 135. oscar is a jr. middleweight. pathetic comparison.
Pacman is a natural featherweight, who can campaign comfortably at 130, and is strong enough to be a force at 135 too. But really, he is a featherweight, who started at flyweight. With Nard it isn't comparable. He might have been a fucking big middleweight, but he was a career middleweight indeed.
He's a big middleweight alright,..he's larger than every supermiddleweight I can think of, the only one who may be larger than him is Librado Andrade... This is why I think geometrical measurements should take over the divisions categories.
It is only pathetic if you are Hopkins apologist. DLH went up and fought bigger guys when they were something still. Hopkins' greatest wins are built on the the balls of others.

The fact that manny started his career at 106 pounds and is fighting DLH is ridiculous. It would be like Margarito fighting Ivan Calderon.
