It was actually surprising how unversatile Mijares was, and how bad he was defensively. I know he has been very active, and Nonito not at all, but people were acting like Mijares was a better fighter, when actually Nonito is much, much better. Faster, more accurate, more skullful, and a lot more powerful. I remember even watching Mijares against Arce, thinking he was pretty damn slow for a flyweight, but last night the speed discrepancy was even more than expected. Darchinyan was pretty much the same as always, but it was amusing how the slow, patient Mijares made him look like a superstar ::
That was ages ago. And it's true, I picked Mijares, I never pretended I didn't. But also, in the last week, let's just say I no longer thought Mijares would win by dominating decision. I thought he would win, but in a very tough fight, as I had a suspicion that Vic's unpredictable retard style would matchup well against Mijares' slow, patient boxing style. But to be fair, I never pretended I picked Vic, because I didn't. I picked Mijares, just like 90% of you did.
I was just pulling your chain MWS.:: I picked Darch though, but I won't pretend it was a real prediction, I picked him because everybody hates him.::
The reason I started to doubt my pick in the last week, is I had a feeling it could be a Mayorga - Forrest type style matchup. Wild unprectability over patient boxing.
Mijares was crap but i think Darce has improved. Better workrate and imo quicker then the pre Donaire Vic. If u put the Vic and Nonito from yesterday in the ring i would very much doubt that the result would be so one sided again.
i can only recall the fight against Darce and one other and he looked far less spectacular... actually the African guy was coming on when the fight was stopped.
He still looked very quick, and pretty sharp, but yes he did look worse than usual. He looked pretty disinterested to be honest. He is an excellent fighter though, I have no doubt he would batter Vic again, as long as he didn't underestimate him. Vic battering Mijares like that was very impressive, without a doubt. However, I am not sure I'd consider Kirilov a "top fighter". That is surely Chinny-anne's best win, Mijares was getting severely overrated. I'm still not sure why though. A good win over Arce, followed by split decisions over navarro and munoz.
Mijares is a better fighter than Donaire. Donaire has seemed to have fooled alot of you. He's got the right style to beat Darchinyan, but he's not good enough to beat many other top fighters.
I'd reeeeally like to see Arce get his ass whooped by Darchinyan. Always have...so I'd like that one next. But Montiel/Darchinyan needs to happen, no doubt. I think Donaire needs a big win to jump into the mix @ 115. He's been shelved and not fighting...and when he has, he's looked so-so or been fighting leftovers.
Yep. Any combination is fine with me... but the less Arce the better. I'd rather go straight to Darchinyan/Montiel, but I understand why that might not happen.
I agree, Donaire does need a big win to prove he's still a top flyweight. But hey, if he can retain the form he showed against Darchinyan, he beats Mijares without a DOUBT. Too quick, too powerful, and too good. I actually don't think Mijares does anything better than Donaire. Also I thought this before last night. Mijares getting battered has nothing to do with it.
Mijares is a much better fighter than Donaire. Nonito is quick and has power, but he has little actully style, IMO. I've seen him look good in one fight...the Darchinyan fight. He's always complaining about his poor hands after a shitty performance. He has alot of potential though...so it's there to be put together. He hasn't shown it yet though.
He looked especially good against Vic, but he always looks like a veery talented fighter to me, with skill too. In what way do you think Mijares is better? And would you actually pick Mijares to beat Nonito? I couldn't see it myself. Mijares is just too slow, Donaire would beat him to the punch all night. You said it yourself, that for a "boxer" Mijares is very hittable. And just think about how quick Nonito is. And like Vic, Nonito has the power to discourage Mijares from throwing many punches himself.
Man, Mijares has beaten a bunch of good fighters and in a variety of ways. Nonito has not. Thats what made last night such a shock; not that he was beat, but how. Vic was outboxing him at times and I don't know anybody that expected that to happen. Nonito is flashy, but doesn't really use much of a jab, doesn't have great defence (he's a hands down, get in/get out, kinda guy...not gonna work as well as he moves up against bigger men with the range to take advantage of that) and really fights only in spurts. You're just not going to consistently beat good fighters with that kind of trashy style, IMO. I'm just not impressed with him and never really have been.
Fair enough. He is flashy, but he does have a decent workrate generally, and I think on talent alone he would comfortably beat Mijares. I think it would be like the second Judah - Spinks fight. Mijares has a better resume of course, that's a no contest. All I'm saying is that Donaire is a superior fighter, and would beat Mijares if they did fight. He can look disinterested at times, but when he does put it together like with Darchinyan, obviously he is an excellent fighter. He is actually not dissimilar to Judah in some ways.
shouldn't Vic by this point be calling for a rematch with Donaire? Has he? The onus is on him, not Donaire. Donaire isn't the one who was KTFO by the other. Doesn't matter how many top guys Viv continues to beat (Mijares, for example, surprisingly). is he calling for a rematch with Donaire?
What about giving him props for completely dominating and knocking out Mijares, who you picked to dominate and ko Vic? Instead, you try to find an angle to bitch again... :shit:
because i hate the guy. and it's no fun to give "credit" to fighters i hate. you think he cares about any "credit" i might or might not have for him?
Do you think the fighters you love care about your support? No. I'm telling you that in the context of a message board... Vic fought a great fight, I'm surprised you didn't appreciate his agression, his power and his lack of holding...
I can honestly say that his not calling out Donaire has everything to do with Gary Shaw. Vic's never exactly been shy about wanting to fight anyone - really, at any weight. But so long as Shaw is involved, a Darchinyan-Donaire rematch won't take place. All that said, Darchinyan still has a cozy relationship w/ Showtime. Donaire, as talented as he is and now with Top Rank, actually stands to further suffer from lack of exposure, as it's never been in HBO's interest to focus much on anyone below 122. So yes, it will matter how many top guys Vic continues to beat. Because as long as he continues to clear space atop 115, Showtime will gladly fund his career. It's a shitty scenario, and makes you hate the business side of the sport that much more, but it's unfortunately the way it is. I'm sure it's a lesson Nate Campbell learned the moment he filed for bankruptcy and pondered a future w/ Golden Boy.
