Nope, comes out November 6th here. Id rather wait for it at the cinema rather then download a shitty cam version.

    TAKEN

    GRADE: C+

PREMISE - Liam Nelson is a retired special forces agent, who quit to try to make a life with his daughter. Needless to say just when things are getting on the right track she gets kidnapped during a trip to france and he must use his special skills to find her.

CRITIQUE - I like the movie although it could have been a bit better. I liked how he went after these guys with such a vengence. What I didn't like was he often did things so sloppily and unprofessionally that he seemed like he was jeapordizing his mission at times with just dumb unnecessary risks. Still though there were a lot of pretty cool scenes and dialogue. Overall it's not the best action movie around but it's pretty good.

Similar to - Man on Fire.

I downloaded this in July and only just got around to watching it yesterday. The only reason I even watched it was because I saw the poster for it at a theatre here in Qatar.

I rewatched INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. I already reviewed it when it opened at the theaters months ago, so I will not repeat myself here. The interesting part is watching the extra bonus features: we can forgive Spielberg and blame solely George Lucas for this atrocity to the Indiana Jones myth. He was the one that insisted from the get go to put aliens, Roswell and flying saucer in this film. Spielberg admitted he thought it was a terrible idea, but was talked to by Lucas and others and eventually gave up. Lucas also came up with the title. While watching this I kept remembering that recent South Park episode where the kid had a nightmare of Lucas & Spielberg raping Indiana Jones and he screamed "No! It cannot be! There are no aliens in Indiana Jones!"

This is the least scary of the SAW franchise, half of the movie played out like a detective story, of course there are numerous torture scenes but they are pretty standard stuff.

Quite a few plotlines remained wide open for SAW VI to deal with, which will be opened on October 30, 2009.

Good acting, straight forward story telling. The only flaw of this movie is Eastwood doesnt know when to stop, hence a 2 hrs. 20 min run time.

REDBELT Directed and written by David Mamet, the writter of numerous great films like THE UNTOUCHABLES and GLENGLARRY GLENN ROSS to name just two, here we have a martial arts film that tries and succeeds to a certain point to be realistic. The plot revolves around Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a blackbelt instructor at a local jiujitsu school who even though is not only a great martial artist and a very decent guy, a true modern samurai, who besides that is running into a lot of financial troubles. His wife Sondra (Alice Braga) is always nagging about the woeful financial situation and tries to talk to Terry into getting involved in the tournament circuit like her brothers who are very successful at that. To Terry that is out of the question. That is totally against his principles. He tries to help others, but can't seen capable of helping himself. Once a helped a drunk guy (Tim Allen in one of his best serious roles) who was going to beaten bad at a bar and that starts a chain of events that ironically will end in tragedy for one character he thought he was doing a good deed. Terry is forced to enter the tournament, but...I will not spoil the end for you. Just watch it. I liked the film for its realistic approach and unpredictable turn of events, even though at its core is still a simple martial arts movie. The ending seemed too rushed and a little forced. I was, huh? that's it? Yet it is not your typical martial arts movie and is worth watching at least once. More a drama than an action film. 8/10

Another cop movie based in New York. This one and We Own The Night are basically identical, except the real villain in this movie is someone within the family.

Next time when they make another cop movie, try to be somewhere else, New York is really getting old fast. It should be reserved for Sex and The City II, :cheer:

If you watch it expecting an action film, then it is lame. True there are parts of the film that drags a bit, but it was nice to see, for a change, a true and honest portrayal of a martial arts instructor instead of another superhuman demi-god kicking butt in midair.

THE FOOT FIST WAY the title is a literal traslation of 'Tae Kwon Do'. I watched this one first and then RED BELT next. Both are similar in the sense of trying to give an honest look at a martial arts instructor. That's were the similarity ends. This is a comedy filmed in the style of a documentary. Mr. Fred Simmons (Danny McBride) is an arrogant Tae Kwon Do instructor in a local shopping mall who is a legend in his own mind, a control freak and an absolute asshole. He has the most colorful lines to 'inspire' his students, like "your body weakness is disgusting to me". All his teachings comes crashing down when the infidelity of his bimbo wife are more than apparent. His students (mostly kids, nerds and old ladies) watch horrified how this 'master' slowly loses his cool and descends into a pathetic depressed, jealous average male. To keep his cool he goes to watch a demostration of his idol, Chuck The Truck, a martial arts film star who likes to get high and fuck arrogant dojo master's bimbo's wives. Fred invites Chuck to his house...guess what happens. The movie is okay and has a few laughs, but these are quite scarce. You root for Fred even if he is such a pathetic excuse of a human being, which proves how good is Danny McBride's acting. The film itself is watchable, but not memorable. 7/10

This is a movie which a lot of mainstream theater would stay away from because of a controversial scene which shows Dakota Fanning became a rape victim. As it turns out, the scene is not as brutal as some people would like you to believe.

A very slow pace movie, probably because it took place in the South. Dakota Fanning is the one who carried this movie and she did a great job. Poor David Morse (last seen in Disturbia playing the creepy neighbor), first i thought he is the bad guy in this movie, but it turns out something happened in the movie that turned his character into a semi-retard. Not a bad DVD rental choice if it's not available in your area.

Jeez, did your girlfriend/wife make you watch this shit. I know you shouldn't judge a movie by it's poster but sometimes you just do it anyway.

It is a drama, not an action film, so it dissapoints in that department. Why it is so difficult to watch a drama about a martial art instructor troubles while it is easier to watch a drama about the troubles of a mafioso?:dunno: Ultimately everyone is entitle to your own opinion. Most of you guys think Lord Of The Rings movies were boring and to most people they were great and not a bit boring. So its a matter of taste. Like for example: I still think that SCARFACE is an overrated piece of shit, but most of you guys think it is a classic.:boohoo:

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH An unworthy revisionist (and dumber!) retake of the classic Jules Verne book. The 1959 original version with James Mason & Pat Boone did a much better job than this one and had more brains behind its victorian era science fiction premise. This version is so ridiculously dumb that obviously was made targeting a core audience of seven years old. I said seven years old because my daughter is eight and since she already had enjoyed the original version, was not impressed at all with this one. The premise? Brendan Fraser discovers 'clues' to the 'real' passage to the center of the earth while reading an old copy of Jules Verne book that his brother left behind after presumably gotten lost there. What does our intrepid wanna be explorer does? He recruits his reluctant yoyo-playing average teenager nephew to accompany him to this adventure, of course! Oh, he also allows that an apparently wanna be explorer bimbo be their guide. The adventures 'down there' are so incredibly stupid that you need to park your brains somewhere else to enjoy the special effects extravaganza. A thunderstorm with ferocious winds and lightning in the middle of a raging under-the-earth-sea? which 'clouds' produced that lightning? Sure in the 1959 version there is a similar scene, but the events that lead to it made it believable. Here everything is so rushed that you think these three characters reached the center of the earth in a matter of hours. BTW what does that lone T-Rex survives on, except for the occasional human explorer that ventures to his realm? The film can be enjoyable if you just accept the total loss of logic and simply view it as a ride. It was just an excuse to sell audiences state of the art 3D images. Too bad I didn't got the 3D version. 6/10
