Shit, I actually started watching MMA when UFC 1 was first released, but it's been so long since I watched some old school UFC I completely forgot they used to fight barefisted :: At which event did they introduce the little gloves? The wing chung guys getting blasted was pretty funny. Fucking useless bastards. I used to really like Pat Smith, he was an elbow fiend.
Boxer, Art Jimerson wore one boxing glove in his match with Royce Gracie (which served no purpose). Going by memory, I think Tank Abbott in that Matua fight above was the first to come out in the small black gloves. I'm not sure when they became mandatory.
I use to love this shit. Old UFC always reminded me of bloodsport. All different styles coming together to see which is the best. The UFC changes martial arts forever.
The funny thing is, most of those guys didn't really have a style. You had the 20 year veteran Kung Fu master who just threw dumbass punches or something.:: It was a farce.
Let this be a reminder to anyone who thought Tank Abbott even in the old days was ever good. The guy was horrible, always.
And most of them were fatasses. Thats why Bruce Lee was great. He use to clown these "so called" masters. He use to ask how can a master have a belly that hangs over his black belt? Most of these guys have never seen a real fight. Like Bruce lee says, no one style can win a fight. You need to be great at all styles. Bruce lee was ahead of his time.
