Final Prediction: Roy Jones vs. Joe Calzaghe

I want Roy to win too,.. but,...............:crafty: I just dont get how fans of Hopkins and Fraud, could hate Calzaghe so so so so much, due to either his fighting style or personality?.. As, neither are as horrible as those two.. It must be a xeno thing, or a skin thing :crafty: .

Pre-2004 Hopkins was generally fun to watch. Calzaghe is too damn sloppy for my preference. Mayweather letting his hands go can be a thing of beauty (round 8 against Hatton for instance). Hopkins's performances against guys like Trinidad and Johnson were very enjoyable to me.

I like the aesthetic value of watching top notch pro fighters throw punches the right way.

Sloppy, ugly punchers like Vitali, Peter, Calzaghe, Valero, etc...aren't my preference.

Jones is too far past it. Calzaghe is a little old too, but much closer to his best than Jones. Jones still has fast hands, and in spots, can show flashes of his younger self. But only in spots. Roy doesn't seem to throw his punches with the snap as he used to. At least not with consistency. His legs aren't the same, his reflexes aren't the same. He was getting hit by Trinidad's jab. Tito jabbed off the hook and even double jabbed off the hook at times and got through Roy's guard. With Calzaghe's workrate, speed, and adaptability, he shouldn't have too much trouble finding him. Roy is not elusive in the pocket like Hopkins is, to slip so many shots, and then tie Joe up. Maybe Roy's best chance is to stink it up. Try to land the straight right hand, as his one-shot speed is still impressive, and then hold.

I never rooted that much for Roy, except for the 2nd and 3rd Tarver fights (thanks for those performances Roy), but I'll be pulling for him to win more than I ever have before.

Jones UD. I think the judges will like Roy's cleaner harder shots over Clazaghe's slaps. Jones is not as shot as portrayed and Joe is not as prime as people say. Bad style for Joe. If Roy comes to win, he will. That is the question though. If Joe think she is fighting another Clinton Woods he will lose. I think Roy wins a somewhat deserved close UD.

Fraud,..yes, offensively he can put on a nice display,..when's that though?..for the most part he's been a running conservative bitch ever since Castillo horrified him. Calzaghe, may look 'wingy' and amatuerish at times,.. but he's got a Mexican-midget workrate, and he comes forwards,.. you have to appreciate fight-makers... ..as opposed 'round stealers'.....they're just welching the sport.

 

Pre 2001, I would agree. Prime Hopkins was great to watch, imo. I thought his win over Tito ruined him. If he weren't so awe struck by Tito h'd have stopped in 6. Hopkins has had 2 watchables fight since 2001 AND THOSE WERE pAVLIK AND HOPKINS.

I'm not going to start disliking him because his style got ugly. He's doing what he has to do to adjust.

Although I admit I was a bigger fan before his style got ugly, I'm still more or less a fan.

Since 2003, he's been conservative against Baldomir, DLH, and to a lesser extent, Sosa. He wasn't a runner or dull IMO against Ndou, Hatton (not as a whole fight), Judah, Corley, Gatti etc.

I had more of an issue with his opposition (mainly 2003-05) than how he fought when in the ring.

I respect him, I just don't like his style.

I've talked my brother into Calzaghe by UD, and the last time that happened was when I talked you guys into Cotto TKO Margarito.

That said, Roy isn't the fighter he was 5 years ago, let alone 10 years ago.

I agree this WOULD HAVE been a bad style for Joe 10 years ago. But today, with Roy's tendency to inject beta cells directly into his scrotum, Joe will be too busy and too good.

My initial post was about Fraud and Hopkins groupies hating Calzaghe and wanting him KO'd!!!! in this present day and present moment,... There are more negative, disgraceful components in both thier personalities and fighting styles to scrutinise in comparison to Calzaghe's, but so many people, mostly Americans, want him out cold at all costs,... ... :crafty: ..I'd put you in the quiet 'xeno' category,.. but comparitively, Illuminati would be classified as both 'xeno' and 'skin', so,.. really, it's not that bad :stir:.

I hate to say it since I put $150 on Roy, but this is pretty much exactly the way I have been seeing it, but I am pulling for Roy to give one last great performance and the odds I got were good, because Roy still has the style to beat Joe if he is not just too old.
