Based my reading of the rnd by rnd, & the fact that RJJ won 2 rnds & didn't get K.O'ed (and I was going to say this post-fight regardless of what happened), I would like to declare that prime Roy would have destroyed Joe!
    What say y'all?

Calzaghe WOULDN'T have Lasted 7 Rounds w/a PRIME Roy Jones:nono:...

N Terms of BETTING, a PRIME Roy Jones is EVEN MONEY AT WORST, w/ANY Fighter N the HISTORY of Boxing...

    REED DIDN'T Stutter Either:nono:...

There's NO Fighter that's EVER Fought who'd B FAVORED to Beat Roy MORE than 5 Times Out of 10...& There's even FEWER Fighters who Would've Actually BEATEN Roy Jones 5 Times Out of 10...

Quite Simply, he's N the Upper, UPPER Echelon of THE Greatest Fighters EVER...

I dunno about destroy, but prime Roy would have beaten him handily. A prime Roy would have destroyed the Calz we saw tonight, cuz Joe aint exactly prime either. But he's much closer to his prime than Roy is.

Shame Roy couldnt get a fight with Pavlik instead.

Prime Roid would start as the favorite (as against anybody) but Calzaghe would be a very live underdog.

Don't forget that he knew he fought a past-prime Jones: he would have changed tactics too if the situation was different (which is something people making these posts never get). Also, prime Joe was much faster and sharper too

None under 175 beats him in his prime. This includes histories most nut hugged atg, Monzon.

At 175 I'd favor Foster, and Spinks over him. Though Roy would be live against both.

I havent seen emough of Archie Moore, or Ezzard Charles at 175 to comment on how Roy'd fare against them.

HOW Could Calzaghe SUCCESSFULLY "Change Tactics" to Make Himself a LIVE Dog Against a PRIME Roy Jones???:dunno:...

Tonight, Calzaghe EXPERTLY EXPLOITED Roy's RELUCTANCE to Sustain a Workrate AND his RELIANCE on the Ropes to Compensate for his SHOT Legs...

PRIME Roy would Probably FORCE Calzaghe BACKWARDS More than he Likes, he DOESN'T Lay & Pray on the Ropes, he Fires SIGNIFICANTLY MORE Punches & Most of All, he Actually FOLLOWS UP WHEN (Not If, but WHEN) he Hurts Calzaghe...

Based on Tonight, U COULDN'T Even Give Calzaghe a "Puncher's Chance" Against a PRIME Roy Jones....

    OBVIOUSLY, Calzaghe Is BETTER...

    Just as Virgil Hill is...

There's Really No Diffference N THE WAY Roy Beat John Ruiz Compared to the Lucas Fight Either...But REED would EXPECT Ruiz to BEAT Lucas...

    TERRIBLE Post...

And Calzaghe, knowing all of this, would not keep dropping his hands and giving Jones the free counter opprtunities. Calaghe would move more, keep his hands up and bit similar to Montell Griffin (who was not nearly as good) and young Hopkins make it difficult for Jones

that's interesting.....what about Roy going backwards and onto the ropes, and losing rounds against a no-chin pillow fisted Montell Griffin

this fight is another example of Roy vs any good fighter who can apply calculated pressure

A prime Roy would have blasted tonight's Calzaghe out rather early. But at the same time, the Calzaghe of years past probably would have stopped tonight's Roy.

So taking them both at thier primes, I think Roy would have beaten Joe by very clear UD, knocking him down once or twice along the way.

Calzaghe WASN'T Showboating when he Got DROPPED N Round 1...

    & he was BADLY Hurt...

PRIME Roy has the LEGS & WORKRATE to PREVENT Calzaghe from SUCCESSFULLY "Moving More"...

@ BEST, Calzaghe would LOSE a Unanimous Decision Following YOUR "Logic"...

Yeah I think ...."Prime Roy,.. DESTROYS THAT WHITE ARSE!!!!",...is overdoing it,.. I mean it's an avenue for vicarious palpable heartbreak perhaps?..but even Calzaghe has stated that Roy was probably better than him in his prime, it's well understood by just about everyone who follows boxing,..there's no need to panick.

As I said in the very first post, yes, I think Jones is the favorite. I am just saying that since Hops and Griffin could keep things close against Jones, so would Calaghe, even more so.

And yes, Calzaghe was dropped early like before. So what? Against prime Jones he would have been more alert from the first bell. Again, you can't compare fighters from different situations that directly

when jones jr was at 168lbs at his peak he wouldve put a *serious hurting on the best version of joe calzaghe. the result depends how calzaghe wouldve went about fighting. he's tough but I have my doubts about how truly tough he is. if he attempted to put the pressure on jones jr like he did tonight, then he wouldve been knocked out. my guess is he wouldve been tamed and lost a one sided decision.

as for tonight I was somewhat disappointed calzaghe let his foot off the gas when he had a beaten corpse in front of him.

    it's all mythical and speculation

all we know is what happened when they actually fought...and what happened when Roy fought fighters who pressured him properly

the rest is all hypothetical :kidcool:

Prime Roy beats a Prime Joe, but tonights silliness doesn't alter much in that regard.

Joe would have lasted the distance, though. Even in his twilight years, Joe retains one of the best beards in the game...

    Riiiight...

& Even a PRIME Roy Jones LAYED on the Ropes ABSORBING Shots AND FAILED to Even ATTEMPT to Fire @ a Guy w/BOTH Hands by his Sides, Right???....

Sosa had More HEART & a MUCH BETTER Chin than Griffin OR Tarver had....& he was MUCH BIGGER & STRONGER than Roy when they Fought...

Roy's had Close to 60 Fights Now...Try WATCHING Some of them...
