    so? he had no defence

so what happens when Roy fights guys who can apply pressure AND avoid a punch? answer = Griffen 1, Tarver, Johnson and Calzaghe

if 4 fights isn't enough proof for you then i dunno what is :notallthere::atu:

    HOW do U Figure...

Sosa was THE 1st Lightheavyweight Fight Roy Jones EVER Had...

If REED Isn't Mistaken, Sosa was AFTER the Paz Fight, yet PRIOR to the Lucas, Brannon, McCallum Bouts....

& if Take the Time to Actually WATCH the Fight, it's APPARENT who the MUCH BIGGER Man is...

U HADN'T Seen Most of Ali's GREAT Fights UNTIL REED Sent U a Tape...Is a Roy Jones Tape ALSO Required???....

Griffin 1 had Griffin about to be stopped after splitting 4 rounds with RJJ:doh:

Roy won AT LEAST 7 rounds during Tarver 1, I say 8.

and now you know damn well that Johnson and Calzaghe got a long past his best Jones.

Amen. Calzaghe putting pressure on the 94-96 Jones would've resulted in him getting blasted out of there. So I also suspect that Jones would've made him gunshy.

But lets not just limit it to Jones. The late 90's, early 00's Hopkins woulda put a serious hurtin on the best version of Calzaghe as well.

Calzaghe is a great fighter, and an all time great OPPERTUNIST.

Uuuuh, Johnson DIDN'T "Avoid" ANY of Roy's Punches....Roy Actually HURT Johnson w/Head AND Bodyshots...

But PLEASE, by ALL Means, Keep CLINGING to this "Calculated Pressure" BULLSHIT, Roboto....It's COMICAL...

What's even FUNNIER is How U Positioned YOURSELF to NOT Give Roy Credit if he WON Tonight, but Since he DIDN'T, U're Now Front & Center Talking Shit, like the CHICKENSHIT, Alias Using SCRUB U ALWAYS Were.....

Sosa was the bigger man but certainly not by "much" and the bout was actually at catchweight if I remember correctly. And it is not like Jones had leaped three divisions anyway

I became a boxing fan early in the nineties so I have seen almost all Jones' fights since he got to the top. That's the reason I think he is the best ever. That's also the reason he doesn't need imaginary credit

Calzaghe's a Damned GOOD Fighter N his OWN Right, but he was NO "Roy Jones"...

So Please DESIST w/the EURO "Imaginary Credit"....

PRIME Roy BEATS Calzaghe 10 Out of 10 Times...9 Out of 10 @ the ABSOLUTE Worst....

    REED:kidcool:

ps. & YES, Sosa was Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay BIGGER than Roy when they Fought...

Ok this thread is now pretty much null and void. Everyone is in agreement that prime for prime Roy would have won. I think even deep down inside Joe himself would agree.

I can't fault reed and some of the other jones jr fans for clinging to the hope that he'd turn back the clock and win. its the nature of a fan.

but...lets face it, some of you goofy fucks are taking advantage of this opportunity to revise history. when ROY JONES JR was at his very best it was suicide to trade punches with him. having a world class chin made no difference, even the grittiest bastards didn't continue trading with him after they tasted the incoming. if they did, they were destroyed.

I hate these "so and so would have kicked his ass if it were 10 years ago" threads because it is pointless to argue about it without absolute certainty. Waste of energy.

There is a question however about whether or not it would have been easy and one-sided fight in favor of Jones. Obviously not

Hard to say because Joe never faced a quality fighter when he was in his prime.

We've only seen face quality opponents in the last 2 years, and now he's declined.

I do know that a prime Jones would have beaten the Calzaghe of the last two years in one sided fashion, and stopped him.

But I'll give Joe the benefit of the doubt, cause I realize he's declined.

Roy at his peak is arguably the greatest fighter whoever lived,..he was incredible,.. .. but even so,.. if he "DESTROYS!!!"...Calzaghe,... Roy also pretty much "DESTROYS" everybody he ever fought, and he didn't, nobody does, especially when fighting other great fighters.

This thread is the equivalent of a wild riot by hurt and enraged groupies, who should realise calmly, without any anxiety or panick,.. that this fight was understood to be nothing to lose and everything to gain for Roy.

This Roy couldn't handle a pressure fighter garbage is hilarious. There are reasons they never pressured him until late in his career.

1:His footwork never allowed them to get that close to him

    2:His hand speed was blinding.

    3:His power was deterring.

What I find the most funny is that a few weeks ago Sly opened a MM, saying Calzaghe would have gone the distance in a close fight with a prime Micheal Spinks.:laughing::laughing:

Idk what the hell Sly was smoking that day. If old versions of Hopkins and Jones could drop and hurt Joe with right hands, I SHUTTER to think what the Spinks jinx would have done to him.

I know thats neither here nor there, I'm just saying. It was a retarded thread.

Its arguable whether or not he "destroys" Joe.

But you know whats NOT arguable? That a prime Jones would have quite possible caused death to your hero Jermain Taylor.

Roy Jones was like Tyson, Joe would have been so intimidated he would have thrown 20 punches a round and Jones would have outpointed him to a virtual shutout while dropping him three times.

I do know that is load of crap. One-sided is what you saw tonight, when Jones did his damnest to hit Calzaghe ans Joe just adjusted his trunks meanwhile. Calzaghe's speed and smartness would have given even prime Jones plenty to figure out

Ah, here comes the "If Henry Cooper dropped Clay, imagine what Sonny Liston will do" argument. Obviously Calz would have fought much more carefully against Spinks.

Yes, and onwards and onwards it goes, Captain 'K' :crafty:... Hopkins was supposed to take care of Jermaine aswell,... styles make fights,.... when good/great fighters clash, barely ever does the result end in a fighter being "DESTROYED!!!!"

Yeah, that was so impressive. Watching Joe clown an anciet, corpse version of Roy.

Calzaghe has not impressed me in his last two fights. The version of him we saw tonight would NOT last the distance with a young Roy, of that you can be certain.

Joe just got dropped and hurt in the first round by a totally shot Roy. If that was a prime Jones, Joe would have been in a WORLD of shit cuz a prime Jones would have gone in for the finish.

Well lucky for us Taylor isnt a great fighter, and never will be.

Taylor would have gotten the Thomas Tate treatment from a prime Jones.

The FUNNY Thing is, the SAME Guys who were IMPRESSED w/Calzaghe's Showboating were NEVER EVER Impressed when a PRIME Roy did it...

N Fact, MOST of the Cats who HATE Roy Do So for THAT VERY Reason...But Apparently, it's COOL when Calzaghe does it...

Must be the race factor right?

I have never complained about Jones' showboating. Bad opponents yes (just like Calz), his attitude in interviews, his fans, but not what he did in the ring

Calzaghe wasn't even hit by a glove

on the knockdown. he got hit with jones forearm. I thought calzaghe was done when he got up. He looked extremely hurt.
