    DAMN, Roy....

w/50 Seconds Left N the 1st Round, U DROPPED Joe Calzaghe HARD...Dude Fell QUICKER than a Bag of BRICKS & UNsteadily Rubbed his Gloves on the Canvas & Rose...

& Roy NEVER Pressed the Advantage...He NEVER TESTED just HOW Hurt Calzaghe was:doh:...

RIGHT THEN, REED Took a Mental Note & Thought to Himself, "That SQUANDERED Opportunity MIGHT Come Back & BITE Roy N the Ass", which it Did...

U have to PULL the Fucking Trigger...Not SIT on it...

I wasnt a bit surprised he didnt try to finish. Roy hasnt shown killer instinct in a LOOOOONG time.

yeh Jones should have simply just KO'd him right there...or at least knocked him down another 10 times throughout the fight

    damn Roy

He really blew it, but he has been a long distance fighter for some years now, who can't afford even a round of increased pressure in fear he won't be able to finish. You can tell by the mindset in the post fight interview where he stood from the start, he sees this as a moral victory to last the distance. There was really no chance he would have done the killer instinct deal while Joe was hurt because that was the Roy of the old, which he is not anymore :crying:

I was quite suprised that Roy Jones, a Lightheavyweight for quite some time, looked to be the same size as Calzaghe,...yet,...Bernard Hopkins,.. a 'lil career middleweight'.. fucking DWARFED him,...?.. ....How do weight divisions work again??

When exactly was it that he did, because it slips my mind.

jones is a fucking moron, considering Hopkins made the same fucking mistake in Joe C. last fight, you would thought that Jones would be smart enough to lear from it.

hopkins dropped calzaghe with a much harder, MUCH cleaner punch than jones jr did. jones jr is wise not to want a rematch with hopkins that some would claim cancels out one of his legacy making victories.

jones jr didn't fail to capitolize. its questionable how hurt calzaghe really was. it was early in the fight and he's been dropped a few times in similar situations. whether it was a legit punch is a whole nother issue. jones jr shoulda DDT'd him after his short clothesline a la jake roberts.

He has a limited gas tank, I wish he would have.....but should he have, considering he could have been saved by the bell and lasted for the next round? Of course looking at it now, he should have.....but I'm sure he thought Jesus was going to work miracles and this was going to be his night and didn't need to.

5 seconds after the opening bell of the fight i was just thinking...."damn roy  why don't you just KO him right now??"

    no killer instinct

If Jones had pounced on that opportunity, he may have stripped a large part of Calzaghe's confidence away early. But the fact that Jones made no move instead gave Calzaghe confidence. Calzaghe probably figured right there "This guy is scared to come at me!"

The 168 pound prime Jones would have gone for the kill, and likely would have gotten Joe outta there. Of course Joe wouldn't have been quite as careless that early against that version of Roy.

he missed the opportunity. But Jones knew that if he didn't take him out that he would have nothing left for the remaining 11-rounds. Good move on his part or he wouldn't have made it to the end.

I gather you didnt see the Hanshaw fight if you were expecting anything different. Roy was pathetic.

    Joe was BADLY Hurt, Neil...

MUCH Moreso than he was on the Hopkins Shot...Hopkins Knocked Calzaghe on his Ass...Roy Made Calzaghe Drop SUDDENLY, N a HEAP...

Against Hopkins, Calzaghe Simply Rose & Continued...Against Roy, Calzaghe UNsteadily Tried to Prop Himself Up w/his Arms, then he Rose on UNsteady Legs...

Sure, U can Debate Whether a PUNCH Landed or Not, but U CAN'T Argue the EFFECTS...Roy HURT Calzaghe WORSE than Bernard did...

That punch landed square on his face, not sure what the issue is with that. Was much, much harder than Hops shot. Just seeing Calzaghe's facial expression as he damn near went to sleep in Roy's arms should tell you something.

That was arguably the most hurt I have ever seen Joe, yet within 15 seconds, his head had cleared again. Calzaghe's recooperative powers and general toughness are extraordinary...

    Yep...

The Hopkins Knockdown was a Well TIMED Shot that Compromised Calzaghe's Balance...Roy's Shot Had Calzaghe Nearly OUT for a Brief Spell...

Dude Very Nearly Fell ON HIS FACE...& when he Used his Arms to Brace Himself, they were UNsteady...& When Calzaghe Rose, he was STILL GROGGY...

He got hit with the wrist/forearm, it was bizarre, watch the replay.

Calzaghe needs time to warm up. He took much harder shots absolutely fine after that.

Agreed, that really was odd. Had Calzaghe stayed down, you would have thought he pulled a Seldon there.

That being said I agree with Reed that Calz was really hurt and much more so than against Hops. Maybe it was the bone in Roy's arm that cracked his jaw, who knows but he was dizzy. Props to Joe he got up, shook it off quickly and came back in the same round to drive Jones back

Did you watch it on TV yet? If not, tell me if it was a punch or if it was a forearm that knock Joe down. It was no punch.

it was a freak knockdown.....Jones's forearm pretty much landed on the whole of Calzaghe's face and you could see the damage it did to Joe's nose.......Joe did very well to recover so quickly

.....I'd say he was just as hurt as he was against Mitchell......i think the worst i seen Joe hurt was against Kabary Salem (bad sp?)....

oh, and for anyone out there who takes Lampley's word as gospel....Calzaghe was not floored in the 1st, or any round vs Chris Eubank......Mitchell was the first to put him down

I think Calzaghe should get some credit for having very good powers of recuperation.

And Roy hit him with some MUCH better punches later in the fight than that forearm one two ... and Calzaghe kept coming.

This is Calzaghe's MO early in fights till his head gets in the game.

I think he explained it best saying that those wake him up and make him angry. From that point on , once he had his head back , I thought he took over and never looked back. I don't even give Roy round 2. I think Calzaghe won 2/3s of that round.
