WHAT IF Manny Pac DEFIES the Odds AND the Scales by BEATING DeLa???...How Does that AFFECT his Legacy???...Consider WHERE U Ranked Manny HISTORICALLY, Amongst 122, 126 & 130 lb'ders & ADD a WIN Over DeLa to That Equation...

Does it Place Manny @ THE TOP of those Rankings???...NEAR the Top???...How does it Affect Manny's ALL-TIME Lb 4 Lb Ranking???...

On the FLIPSIDE, How is DeLa's Legacy AFFECTED by a LOSS to a Former FLYWEIGHT???...Can he Play the "Past Prime" or "Weight Drained" Card or is it PARAMOUNT that DeLa BEAT Manny Pac No Matter WHAT???...

N a Day to Day Sense, this Fight DOESN'T Mean Much, but N Terms of LEGACY, there's ALOT on the Line...

    Soooooooooo WHAT IF???...

That's the thing about taking a fight you're favored to win 5-1. If you lose it, it hurts your legacy badly.

We all know that ODH picked Pacquiao because he's small and ODH thinks he can't possibly lose. And after losing to PBF and Hopkins, he needs a win badly.

    it's kinda a lose-lose for DLH

if he stretches Manny... it would look kinda bad and Manny is too little

if he beats him but it's a good fight it hurts DLH's legacy

if he loses it REALLY hurts him

thing is.. Manny is aggressive.. going aggressive vs a bigger stronger guy who really is a better boxer..
it really is all around a bad scenario for Pac..

if DLH wanted to IMO.. he could stretch Pac in the first or second round

but he'll prolly carry him a little..

    all that said..

if Pac whups him.. it is incrediblly impressive..

I hope hope hope he can do it.. I just dont see how

i can't believe it's even legal to sanction this fight. it shouldn't be. and ODH should be ashamed of himself for making it.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, you can't blame for taking the fight. What does he have to lose? He could lose and still retain his P4P #1 ranking. That's what a mismatch this is on paper and a farce of a fight.

    I agree..

the only thing DLH could say if Manny somehow beat him is that he's washed up and old..

I just can't see it happening though

I fail to see how fighting a guy you dwarf for a substantial pay day is a "lose-lose".

if pac wins, who knows, maybe he'll be rated higher than floyd in a historical sense (although floyd beats him 10 out of 10 at any weight imo).

if oscar wins, it would be no different than when beat up gatti.

wow, i definitely disagree with that last part.

I give Manny a decent shot at winning, he's a very good fighter, and Oscar may be troubled by the awkwardness/speed/etc. that Pacquiao brings.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Manny won, and I think its a great thing for both guys that this is happening.

This is a lose / lose for my boy Dela no matter what way you look at it.

I know there is a size difference but I still think Pac will cause Dela trouble.
Oscar will be fcuked at the weight.

I'm with you on that one. Do not underestimate the beast that is Manny Pacquiao

relative to fighting a guy who if you defeat you get credit and improve your legacy, it's a lose-lose. he's going to make tons of money regardless who he fights.

but if he beats Pacquiao, he'll get no credit because he'll have beaten a man half his size.

if he loses, it'll be pretty tough to stomach for the same reason.

so money aside (he'll make money regardless of who he fights), he stands to gain nothing by winning, and a lot to lose if he's defeated by a former fly-weight.

i think that's what LOK is trying to explain.

The former flyweight beast, and the Oscar that has fought as high as 160, and wasn't even that troubled by Bernard's shots, before he took a dive.

Dude - I'm just giving Manny the props that he deserves.

Manny should not be rewarded more than Floyd or Mosley for beating De La Hoya... It's not fair to hail him as the "best eva". To do that he'd have to beat at least one of the big two at welterweight: Cotto or Margarito. I would've given him more credit if he beat Hatton at 140 lbs, or unified the belts at 135 lbs. Hoya may be big, but he's wayyyy past his prime.

The whole once-a-flyweight angle is really being oversold by detractors of this fight. Manny would have to cut off his head in order to squeeze down to 112 today.

A realistic gripe is that it's a legit junior middle against a legit junior lightweight. That in and of itself should be enough cause for concern, for those who believe size has everything to do with determining the outcome. Manny the flyweight against Oscar the middleweight is a gross exaggeration of the two fighters that will be in the ring on December 6.

Perhaps "once-a-flyweight" isn't the best way of putting, then (at least not without including DLH's start weight, which at least makes it a little more reasonable).

How about Pacquiao began the year at 130 and DLH at 150?

isn't that pretty much what I just said?

    It depends on the audience.

You're describing the boxing public....and frankly, my thought is if DLH was that concerned about what the boxing public thought, he wouldn't have chosen Pacquiao to begin with (and on this point, Merchant gets very low marks for ever mentioning it).

Among the general public, a win - especially if it's dominant and/or by KO - is not a lose-lose if they're willing to pay money to see him fight again.

    You did.

I guess I was addressing this part: "those who believe size has everything to do with determining the outcome."

It may not be the only thing, but the size should play a huge part of who wins this fight.

I'd already place Manny ahead of Floyd historically...if he wins you're talking about a modern day Roberto Duran.

Here's the thing...if Pac wins you can pencil Pacquiao-Mayweather in for May or June.

The irony here is...if Floyd beat Pac...Pac still goes down as the better fighter historically.

Jake...didn't Oscar do the same to pick up titles at 130 and 135? Plus...even when Pac struggled to make 112, it's not like he had a huge size advantage over any of his opponents.

Hell, he's never had a size advantage over any of the guys he's beaten (none that I can think of).

Oscar never fought anyone with a real size advantage over him until he faced Sturm and Hopkins...he and Tito were evenly matched.

If Oscar throws 40 or 50 jabs per round, by round 6 he'll look like Sugar Ray Robinson AFTER the round 13th against Joey Maxim.

I agree, of course, I've never tried to say that Pacman is still a flyweight, he clearly grew out of the weight.

IMO Pacman is a natural featherweight, but a featherweight so strong and solid that he is still a force at 145.

So at best it's a natural featherweight Vs a natural welterweight, which I feel is Oscar's natural weight. So I agree with you really, I just think their natural weights are one lower than you suggested.
