For Jan 24th, since the Mexican sloth pulled out. Thoughts? At this point I think imma have to go with Berto, which is a testament to how far Shane has slipped.
no surprise ill take mosley honestly i havent seen berto (except maybe once, dont remember) so im going on who i like and not any actual analysis
What a great fight this would be to watch. Their styles are so similar, like Mosley said, Berto reminds him of himself when he was younger.
this is the one belt I give Shane a chance to win at 147. But Berto can still out work him just because of how much younger he is and how much Shane has slipped.
Al Haymon deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award if he can con HBO into putting up the type of money it will require to make this fight a reality. A Tony-Shane fight is probably worth $4 million. Shane-Berto is not, but just because King knows how much HBO can afford to pay, he'll drive up the price on step-aside fee for Collazo, who is Berto's mandatory. That said, if it can be done, then Collazo might make more in step-aside money than he would for an actual Berto fight. The sad part is, between the three, there isn't a lucrative fight to be found (Shane-Berto, Berto-Collazo, Shane-Collazo II). All would be box-office duds.
Box office and politics aside, I really hope this fight gets made. It'll be a helluva fight, and Shane certainly has more of a chance against Berto than he would have against Margarita. And fuck Collazo! None wants to see that boring fuck fight anyone.
We'll see. Berto at this point has faster hands than Shane, and can maintain a higher workrate. The question is will Berto be able to handle Shane's power... THAT remains to be seen. I think the Mosley the fought Cotto would kick Berto's ass, but I suspect that Shane has slipped even from that point. He had trouble pulling the trigger against the Nica punching bag. Either way it'll be a good fight. Say what you want about Berto, but I dont think he has any dog in him. Win or lose, he's not gonna be afraid to stand his ground and trade with Shane. That might be his undoing, or he might just be too young and fast for Shane.
My thoughts exactly. If this was a young Shane here it'd be no discussion needed. Berto wouldnt see past 6. But Shane is so past it, that Berto has a legit shot.
Turned down the Shane fight. On a sidenote Dan Rafeal said this fight aka Berto-Shane has little chance of happening, because of money and the fact that Collazo #1 WBC contender wants his shot.
Mosley STOPS Berto... He'll Probably STRUGGLE Early w/the YOUTH & SPEED of Berto, but Berto DOESN'T have Good Defense & he Reacts "Weird" Upon Being Hit... Mosley by Come from Behind TKO, 7th or 8th Round... REED:hammert:
thats what i read..in maxboxing..but why would he DO THAT??? HOPE he isn't waiting still for the DLH sweepstakes....it's not like Mosley look good/decent vs. Mayorga...
Mosley beats Berto's ass worse than Hopkins got off into Pavlik. Too bad it ain't gonna happen. BitchAss Jake, forget King's influence. Hayman and DiBella won't allow that fight to happen.
His belief is that a fight with Shane should go for better than purse parity. On the one hand, he makes a point. Mosley-Mayorga was a financial bust, while Margarito is coming off of the biggest win of his career AND received a greater reception at ringside than either fighter in the ring enjoyed before, during or after their fight. The other is that Tony's paying too much attention to the percentage and not enough attention to the career high payday he still stands to collect, regardless of what the other guy is making.
You might be right - it could be posturing on their part, that they pretend to be interested in the fight, only to use $$$ as an out to instead defend against Collazo in a much safer (though far less lucrative) fight. But yeah, I doubt it happens, even if the mandatory wasn't a roadblock. Not sure how much HBO puts up for the fight, but it's a non-attraction no matter where it's staged.
That's one of the reasons I disliked Marge in the first place. Hyped up, acting like he's avoided, only to somehow make fights NOT happen. Clearly the guy can fight, so why not just fucking make some fights?
Yep... & He SUCKERED Posters Into CHAMPIONING His Cause, Convincing THEM that he'd Actually B DIFFERENT if Given a Chance...But Now that Margarito is IN Position to B this "Fighting", "People's" Champion, Now that he HAS the Collective Attention of the ENTIRE Boxing World, he's SQUANDERING his Momentum... To EVERY Poster that's EVER Allowed their Lips to FORMULATE (Or Fingers to TYPE) the Words "Floyd Ducked Margarito", Margarito is NOW Pulling "a Floyd"...He's Doing The SAME EXACT Shit that ya'll Incessantly BITCHED @ Floyd about... A RE w/Paul Williams???....Nah:nono: A STAY BUSY Fight to End 2008???...Nah:nono: A Potential PPV Fight Early Next Year vs. a Future HOF'er???....Nah:nono: Margarito EARNED the Spot he's Currently In, but Boxing would've Been BETTER Off is Cotto had Won that Night... REED:hammert:
It's likely that he and his camp don't want to jeopardize a Cotto rematch by losing before it happens...at least not without getting well compensated for it. Margarito-Cotto II is probably a bigger fight than the one's he's turning, and it's certainly the more preferred one for Arum. Margarito deserves criticism if he chooses to do nothing before that fight, but I find it interesting that people are somehow comparing him to other fighters...because he's been one of hte most willing fighters in the sport, and has already fought many of hte elite in the division. Personally, I would still like to see a Clottey rematch, perhaps moreso than Mosley...outside of just Mosley's name.
TRANSLATION: Margarito's doing the same thing Floyd did when he was top dog at welterweight. Floyd was jacked for $7 million in jewelry and bragged about how much he had in the stock market...smart money says he's hurting for cash right about now...we'll see him in the ring in 2009. I bet he's hoping for a Pacquiao win so he can make that match. if Oscar wins there's no way he's giving Floyd another payday...not after walking away from the September date. But back to Tony... Jake hit the nail on the head...he needs to stop worrying about percentages and take the money. Shane has always been a fighters fighter depsite not drawing well. I doubt Shane bitches about the money.
