On Saturday, November 29, undefeated Cristobal “The Nightmare†Arreola will be taking what he hopes is another step toward a World Heavyweight Championship, when he defends his WBC Continental Americas title against Travis “Freight Train†Walker on the first-ever professional boxing card to be held at the new state-of-the-art Citizens Business Bank Arenain Ontario, California. And while preparing to do battle with a hard-hitting, world class heavyweight is nothing new for the Riverside, California native with an unblemished 25-0 record including 22 knockouts, being followed around by a world class camera crew was certainly a new experience for the 27-year old Mexican-American knockout artist. HBO Sports which will televise the Arreola-Walker contest on “HBO:Boxing After Dark†as co-feature to the interim 12-round WBO Super Welterweight Championship Bout between Paul “The Punisher†Williams and Verno Phillips, has developed a series of original human interest short features on eight promising young boxers entitled “Ring Life.†One of the principal subjects is Arreola. http://fightbeat.com/news_details.php?NW=21974
I don't know of anybody who does think he is, outside of HBO. His fight with Travis Walker should be entertaining enough, though. I don't think either have enough wrinkles in their game for it to be anything but.
As the leader of the Arreola bandwagon lets put this bluntly. He's not the next big thing. He is an american Sinan Samil Sam with decent power. However, activity is a good thing, and he can beat some of the poo thats parading around as top 10 HW right now.
As I said in another thread, the fact that Arreola is never in a boring fight is reason alone to watch him. He's an undefeated heavyweight, so of course networks and his handlers will oversell his potential. If/when he gets exposed, feel free to LOK all over those who falsely try to sell him as the heavyweight messiah. Until then, at least enjoy the entertainment value that comes with his fights.
Lampley's entire terminology - talking about him as an "American" or "United States" heavyweight hopeful - shows how little he/HBO are willing to recognize the current status of the division. That kind of talk should be done away with, because if Arreola is the American/US hope, then there is no hope. The division isn't strong, but it looks a lot weaker to those who only watch what's shown on American television. But if HBO/SHO are only going to show foreign heavyweights named Klitschko, it's going to look worse than it is.
I have a bit of a problem looking at fat people. Thus, I have a serious problem with taking 40 minutes out of my life and voluntarily staring at a fat person, regardless of what its doing.
The Physique is One Thing, but the Last Name is the WORST...A Fighter w/THAT Last Name just CAN'T B Good...Luckily for Arreola, he DOESN'T have Clifford Etienne's MANBREASTS... REED:hammert:
You guys are so wrong about Chris it disgusts me. He will capture a piece of the title... Thats for sure. And you guys really wouldn't be sayin the shit you are sayin if ya met the guy...one of the most down to earth people. And He has quick hands and punches in combinations....the guy is good, so what who cares what he looks like, the guy can fight.
He's an intimidating looking piece of creature I'll give you that much, never seen a more scarier looking man/goblin/orc/elf (all related),..and that under the bridge stuff alone will have posters tight lipped,.. but tell me you feathered scrunch, why did you ban me from that Boxing24 board,..?
it makes it easier to root for the guy, is my guess. Truth be told, BoxFan isn't wrong in saying that. Fans talk shit about fighters all of the time, but change their tune the minute they get to talk to one in an online chat, never mind actually meeting him.
On that Note, Kirk Johnson WILL STILL Become Heavyweight Champion Someday... REED didn't Stutter Either... REED::
I have only seen him against Tim Witherspoon nephew, he looked pretty good there, but nothing special. But then again, you don't have to be special to be the next champ in the HW division.
