If Ouma can beat Verno, I think Williams certainly will.

Verno's a pot-shotter. He'll get hit with some hard shots and might even quit or be knocked out.

Umm Williams by CLEARLY outworking the much smaller and older man??? :dunno:

Dunno if even a late stoppage is an option since Verno seems to be unstoppable but hasn't really faced a strong guy like Williams lately.

Williams by decision. Phillips fights the first half to win, the second half to survive.

well phillips barely scraped past an inactive stinks and most thought he lost that fight. plus he himself has been inactive, so i'm not sure how he's going to be able to withstand williams' workrate.

williams via late TKO or UD.

I think we can all agree on one thing: the only way Phillips can win is by knock-out. And that might not be as unlikely as we think. He has a mean left-hook and shoots it out of nowhere. You never know.

    Still my pick is Williams.

Williams should fight Winky. They both claim to be avoided. Seems like a perfect fight to me.

What the hell is Williams wasting his time with Verno Phillips for?

Because Verno has a title. And Winky would demand too much money to fight the likes of Williams.

Confential wisdom says Williams by UD, but what the hell... Imma say that Tall Paul stops him. Williams TKO 10.

Who knows what the hell Winky has left at this point. He's old, and hasnt fought in forever. Prime Winky schools Williams, but now who knows.

They are fighting for an interim title. Whoopty fucking doo! Both Winky and Williams would make far more fighting eachother than they stand to make in their next fights. You make it sound like they both have options at this point to make bigger money. They don't.

Williams by KO8. Hurts Verno in the first round badly.

Verno can do everything Quintana can do so it's not that hard to imagine Verno winning, but Williams is the clear pick.

phillips isn't as athletic or quick as quintana. I'd have a hard time imagining him win the fight in that manner.

What the hell does anybody see in Verno Philips? I think Quintana is w/o question a better fighter than Philips. Verno is a career JOURNEYMAN!

Exactly, and that's why I'll be very disappointed if Paul can't dominate him. Paul is a potential elite fighter on the rise ( one could even argue he's already there) while Verno is a journeyman, a pretty good one though, on the decline. Paul has to dominate if he wants to make a statement.

Paul Williams isn't an elite fighter, IMO. No way. They don't get their asses kicked for 12 rounds by Carlos freaking Quintana.

Even Joel Julio managed to do as well as Williams did in their first fight.

I agree, but as I said, I wouldn't argue too hard with someone that claims so. In my mind, he managed to correct what happened against Quintana very boldly, and the fact that he beat Margarito, an elite fighter, certainly adds to the argument. I don't think he has reached that level yet, but he's not far.

I dunno. First roud KO's happen all the time. It's a known thing that there is a "cold" phenomenom, where it takes a fighter a little while to aclimatise himself to the combat.

First rounders could happen to anyone, IMO. 12 round drubbings? They tend to answer alot more questios about the relative worth of a fighter than any other outcome.

I think Williams owes Quintana a third match.

You might be right, but I felt Williams was different in that fight. I admit it was short, but you could see that he was putting his weight behind his punches and instead of using a pawing jab and pitty patting as he did before, he used a powerfull jab too (i.e. he moved his torso while throwing it), the kind of jab that tall fighters are very successfull with. We'll see, but I think he could very well be one of the elite in a few months (if he has the competion to prove it of course).

I swear to god, I didn't see a thing different about Williams, besides his hair cut. His punches had a much bigger effect, no doubt...but for all the people saying "he's changed"...I saw him getting hit with the same punch that ruined his night the first time and throwing out a bunch of arm shots, followed by a couple of heavier ones.

One of them did the business.
