    The Wackness - 7.5/10

I had no idea what to expect before I watched this, but was really surprised. Kinglsey puts in a great performance. I think most people will either love or hate this movie.

From IMDB: It's the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip-hop. Set against this backdrop, a lonely teenager named Luke Shapiro spends his last summer before university selling marijuana throughout New York City, trading it with his unorthodox psychotherapist for treatment, while having a crush on his stepdaughter.

I'm not surprised to see Method Man in a movie about weed.

Quantum of Solace 7/10. Not as good as Casino Royale, which in many ways was the best Bond movie ever, but better than any of the ones starred by Brosnan or Dalton (although Goldeneye was pretty solid). It is not as action-filled as some have cried and Craiig is an awesome Bond, but the action-scenes are messy. Also the plot is a basic one, as usual, not as creative as last time out.

A bit disappointing yet still solid

That means they sucked us in again. I heard Golden Eye was good for Brosnan's first debut and then the rest of them were lukewarm.

Agreed. I don't understand what problem people have with that ending. It sure as hell is better than the one that was in the book, where he just drives off into the mist and that's it.

I've seen a few these past weeks. So here are the first few

    Tideland
    [IMG]

    3/10

A horrendously bad movie about a young girl who lives with her junkie (soon to be dead and a rotting corpse) rock star father in his old abandoned childhood house. Basically it's supposed to be a drug-induced spin off of "Alice In Wonderland",but considering I've actually have never read or seen any adaptation of it,I have no clue how true it is to the story?

Since this was directed and co-written by Monty Python alumni Terry Gilliam,I thought it would be decent. So wrong I was. Stay away from this at all costs!!

    Twice Told Tales
    [IMG]

    6/10

A typical Vincent Price flick of the era. First two stories about a rotting corpse of a bride and the second story about a guilt ridden alcoholic man who inters his unloyal wife and her lover inside his basement wall, were entertaining. But third and final story about a man stuck in purgatory left me kind a bored.

    Theater Of Blood
    [IMG]

    7/10

Another pretty good Vincent Price flick. About a mad crazed actor obsessed with Shakespeare, who's peers believes he's dead. Only to find out he's alive and starts killing them off one by one. Very good flick!

9/10---Classic. I've seen it dozens of times but it's one of those movies that grabs you when you see it on TV.

Saw "Role Models" with the family this weekend. I like Paul Rudd so I wanted to see how he'd do in a starring role.

OK if you like Rudd's type of self loathing, cynical humor with sort of a feel good ending.

Not a ton of laughs but pretty decent for what it was. The little black kid looks like a star in the making.

Checked out his IMDB resume and he's already got 21 credits at 12 years old...........so it looks like he's kept pretty busy already.

Yeah i like how he said that if it doesn't happen live/in front of crowd the record should not stand...so the Steve guys goes to this arcade spot..and breaks the record with a bunch of people watching it being done LIVE......then Billy send in a tape of him breaking Steve's record..but it wasn't done live..and the tape he submitted was shitty..but the Organization still took it.....

Last 30 minutes of the documentary Steve was trying to get Billy to meet him for a one on one matchup....fucking thing was held in Billy home city he still won't go 1v1...

    Slumdog Millionaire 9.5/10

One of the best movie i have seen coming out of India, directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting). This movie is best described as a romantic fairy tale. A contestant in the India version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire through different questions in the contest tells the story of his life from being a toddler to becoming an adult.

The movie is played out by mostly Indian actors, the only one i know is Irfan Khan (He is Karl Penn's father in The Name Sake). Superb storytelling, well worth 2 hours of your time.

    GET SMART

    GRADE: C+

PREMISE - Steve Caroll is a special agent who is trying to earn his promotion to field work. In his quest to move up he goes through special missions and adventures while teaming up with a female coworker.

CRITIQUE - I thought this movie was pretty good, with the action, and the comedy. It can't be taken serious at all, but it was overall a pretty good watchable movie.

    STEP BROTHERS

    GRADE: F+

PREMISE - Two 40 something men live at home with their single parents. They come together when their parents meet and get married. At first they dispise each other and their new parents but they come to appreciate both.

CRITIQUE - I'm not a big fan of Will Ferrell's style of comedy, but I do get it. Some of his other movies I actually consider watchable and even comedy, but this steaming pile of shit I don't. This was nothing more than 2 actors (only 1 of which is considered a comic) coming together and acting like idiots in an unfunny way. Don't get me wrong there were a few funny parts, like the sleep walking part, but overall this movie was a severe waste of my time.

See instead - Dumb & Dumber. That's if you want a real example of a comedic actor and a regular actor coming together with great chemistry and putting together real clever comedy. The kind of comedy that goes beyond stupid lines that are funny simply because it sounds like something a 4th grader would say which is what you get from Ferrell these days.

    BANGKOK DANGEROUS

    SCORE - 5/10

PREMISE - Nic Cage plays a live by the rules hitman. After taking a job in Bangkok, he starts to loosen up on his rules by going out with some woman, and showing mercy and training up one of his assisstants. Later the very people who hired him turn on him and bullets start to fly.

CRITIQUE - This was mediocre at best. The story wasn't very interesting, and the naration gave you the feeling they were taking you somewhere but you just never got there and by the time it was over you felt you missed something.

Not much better than - Hitman.

    TROPIC THUNDER

    SCORE - 3/10

PREMISE - Some actors go to Vietnam to film a war movie. They wind up getting into some real action but think it's all part of the movie.

CRITIQUE - This movie was pretty stupid, and not in a good way. It wasn't funny and the best it could produce from me was a couple giggles. I did like the Tom Cruise cameo as well as Downy Jr but nothing in this movie makes it worth sitting through. My advice, take a pass.

Hollywood conspiracy theory ? - Going off the 1st two movies and all the other shit Hollywood has been releasing makes me wonder; Did Hollywood really give in to the screenwriters demands and pay them what they wanted, or did they agree to it invite all the writers to a party and have them killed and buried in the desert only to call up some minor league replacements? Because the shit they've put out lately is really really bad by comparison. I mean really bad.

    QUANTUM OF SOLACE

    SCORE - 7/10

PREMISE - Bond is back and this time he's thwarting an environmentalist's plan of controling a country's water supply. He's also catching heat for his repeated knack of killing everyone he fights and his own team are eventually ordered to go after him.

CRITIQUE - This was pretty good though not great. The story wasn't as good as the last but it also didn't have long drawn out boring love chats like in the first one which had a couple dry spells. I think overall this one had more action but just not as good of quality action as the first. I also loved that Bond got into a drawn out hand to hand fight similar to the good ones in The Bourne Identity I & III movies.

    BODY OF LIES

    SCORE - 8.5/10

PREMISE - Dicaprio is a field agent working with his nonfield boss Crowe. Together they're trying to bring down the head of a terrorist organization that has been operating out of Jordan. Dicaprio also gets assisted by the head of Jordanian intelligence but Crowe keeps acting like an ass and screwing things up for Dicaprio almost to the point where it looks like he's doing it on purpose.

CRITIQUE - The acting in the movie is superb by practically everyone and the directing and dialogue are all top notch. The movie is more drama than action even though there is both. The story is the only thing I can find fault with as it did slow down a bit once or twice just a bit but was still a good story. However the give and go between Dicaprio and Crowe was nice and I love a good drama. I recommend it.

When Bond was in Haiti, after he killed that dude in the hotel room, he went to the front desk and picked up the brief case, Connery was sitting outside reading newspaper as a tourist.

I have seen quite a few films but have not review them here. Let me see if I remember a few of them:
TROPIC THUNDER I was expecting more of this film. The trailer looked promising, but unfortunately this is a very unfunny film. I didn't laugh not even once. 2/10

GET SMART Steve Carrell did a good Maxwell Smart impersonation. The problem with the film is that besides Carell nothing else seems to work. The first part and the last part of the film are the weakest ones. The midsection is the one truly closest to the tv show. Still is a so-so film. 6/10

BOLT I already reviewed this film in another thread. Good film for anyone under 10 years old. The animation is acceptable, but not special. The story is very predictable. More than twice I was yawning and struggling to stay awake. 6/10

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS OSAMA BIN LADEN? Another goofy documentary from the guy who brought us the brilliant SUPERSIZE ME film. This one lacked the brilliance of the previous one and except for a couple of scenes was pretty much boring. 3/10

TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE I have watched this films many times, but I did it this time to introduce my children to a good, safe, scary film on Halloween. Bad idea. To me this film is not scary, but the damn gremlin in the airplane episode scared the heck out of my six year old. On the other hand John Lithgow's performance was excellent. He should had nabbed an academy award that year for that role as the panic attack suffering passenger. Also George Miller was the most effective director of the four helmers of the film. Yeah he did the unthinkable: made Speilberg, Landis & Dante bite the dust in humilliation. 8/10

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (1978) The pilot film for the original series has dated badly and still feels like a rushed production made to cash in on the STAR WARS fever. I was never a fan of the show. A younger Jane Seymour was so beautiful that it made this worth watching again. 4/10
    [IMG]

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: The Miniseries (2003) My prejudice towards the original made me miss most of this revised version when it first aired. Recently I have been watching it sporadically and it isn't bad at all. This new movie is head and shoulders superior to the original even if it tells the same basic plot. This film was made by a guy who is a writer and who put his brain to work out some logic to the original premise. He accomplished his goal. This a very good science fiction film that can't stand alone as a film and makes you want to watch the show. Great role for Edward James Olmos as Adama. The female Starbuck rocks! I am still not crazy about the concept of a bimbo cylon though. 8/10
    [IMG]

THE ONE ARMED-SWORDMAN (1967) I had not rewatched this film since 1973 I think. It was great to see it released on DVD. It still packs a punch as an entertaining martial arts film. The plot is basically the same we have seen hundred of times, but with the twist that (A) our hero is one armed (2) his arm was amputated by the beautiful girl who loved him but that in a temper tantrum when he decided to leave, she strikes him with her sword when he least expected it. Talk about hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! Wang Yu was excellent and played his role well with a straight face. This and its sequel THE RETURN OF THE ONE ARMED SWORDMAN along with a revised version THE NEW ONE ARMED SWORDMAN aka TRIPLE IRONS are my all time favorite 'swords' films of that era of Hong Kong cinema. 9/10
