So was this fight even for the IBF LMW that Phillips won from Spinks? I noticed they kept saying WBO interim... WTF?

I believe they stripped Verno for fighting Williams.

Kellerman hyperbole aside, good win by Williams. He adapted well (and EARLY) in the fight when it was clear that Phillips was looking to counterpunch. He is unphased by cuts, which is another plus.

Also, since the standard comments remain that Williams is too easy to hit...

Am I the only one who notices that he does a LOT of head rolling? The man looks gangly when he does it, but he anticipates plenty of shots. If anything it makes it look like he's stunned worse than he really is; Verno found that out when Williams started timing him in the last 2-3 rounds. I guess I'm pointing this out because I'm a bit touchy on the subject (example: people who mention Margarito's "underrated defense").

i agree....he was aggressive tonight.......considering how many he throws, he doesn't take that much in return......he is a good judge of distance utilising his reach tonight with that judgement as opposed to with the jab, an accurate puncher....some of those body punches he was landing travelled some way

What tipped you off, Margarito's name right before the part you bolded?

I want to see the lovely black spider, tossed into a jar with his red tiger beetle nemessis and I want that jar rattled again,.. the fight between two.. IRRELEVANTS (as of 2006 by Fraud groupies lest we ever, ever, ever forget) happens to be one of, if not THE BEST fight to be made in boxing at the moment,..

He is, but lets face it... Philips is 40 years old and never was world class to begin with. Good performance by Tall Paul, but hopefully he fights Santos, or Dzinriruk so we can really see him tested.

plus phillips has never been a huge puncher. he's crafty and landed some nice right hands, but as early as round 2 it was clear phillips couldn't hurt williams. idid think though that phillips won some of the earlier rounds before williams began ignoring his trainer's advice and applying punishment on the ropes.

interestingly, it was phillips winning when there was distance; sometimes trainers miss these nuances; credit to williams to realize that crowding phillips with a punishing body-attack was his best bet - never heard his trainer tell him to do that but it won him the fight.

you don't play cat and mouse with phillips - he's too crafty.

pHILLIPS IS OLD, but no one bashes Phillips like that. I am a huge fan of Williams. However, I can't get that Quintana loss out of my head. Quintana is a shitty, shitty fighter. I don't care what the reason is, losing to him is inexcusable.

i disagree that quintana is a bad fighter; he schooled the shit out of julio; cotto got lucky agaainst. and his win over williams was his achievement, not williams' mistakes. why do you think williams came out so aggressive in the rematch? he knew quintana could out-manuever him over 12. quintana is no easy pickings for anyone. i wouldn't be surprised to see him beat cotto in a rematch in fact and he'd give tony fits.

clottey's the one with the perfect style to dismantle quintana.

Cotto beat Quintana by decisive KO. Quintana would have basically no chance in the rematch,

he was on even terms with quintana and touched that liver. that's luck. i'd love to see quintana get a rematch. watch how relieved cotto is after that fight - a fight many predicted him to lose.

You distort the reality to suit your agenda, Cotto was dominating Quintana before stopping him, landing all kinds of shots, no way it was fought on even terms. No amount of :atu: will change this fact. Punishment is what got Quintana out of there, not luck.

You're about the only man on earth that thinks there should be a rematch. Even Quintana never made much noise about that.

Luck? A well placed liver shot? Are you insane?

Is every other 1 punch KO in the history of boxing luck?

Such as Castillo over Corrales in the rematch?

 Double L..is acting as if Quintana was doing well up until the body shot...he forgot that Quintana was being punch around by Cotto in that round...the end was near...body shot/liver shot or NOT...

:notallthere: Quintana vs. Cotto II in PR...it's not asking for much...shit if Quintana really wanted a rematch he would be asking for it...even more so now that Cotto had a defeat..and needs a comeback fight...but QUINTANA doesn't want a REMATCH vs. Cotto...he wants one vs. Williams though...

Yup. Fucking horrendously bad poster. Just talks utter shit, all the time.

Quintana was doing well, then Cotto landed a lucky punch. Andrade was doing well against Kessler, and might win a rematch, etc etc

I have requested that Double L be banned for "content." Except for Tam, the mods said no. I can'tsee why you can't ban a guy from a boxing board for not knowing anything about boxing. Double L is forum cancer.
