And will be televised on Showtime, according to Daily Telegraph.

$2 million grudge match...that's not a bad pot size for the unified super flyweight championship.

If Shaw's supposedly going to announce the deal tomorrow, I'd guess he has.

I really wanted to see this fight years ago when it would have been more competitive.

I still want to see it but Vic is at an all time high right now while Arce has been declining for a while.

The press conferences will be awesome though.

Minimumweight should be 140, there are just too many deaths below that weight let's face it, it breaks my heart, but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make, we need to save lives, no more midgets.

is that true? are there many more deaths among the smaller weight classes than the larger ones? do you have any statistics on the differences? do the frequencies of death gradually decrease as the weight class increase, or is there a cut-off somewhere above which the stats plateau?

It´s not surprise boxing is dying, when the writers or should I say corporate whores keep mentioning that useless IBO belt. Give it two more years and people think it´s legit belt.

    Donaire-Montiel in Manila?

Wonder what the likelihood of that is.

I'm surprised Arum didn't say Dubai or Macau.

At this point, I'm taking a "see it to believe it" approach to any potential significant fight featuring Fernando Montiel. The irony is, every fight Arum guaranteed that would involved Montiel, wound up instead going to Darchinyan.

    according to fightnews.com:

    Darchinyan-Arce on Feb 7!
A must-see matchup that fans, media and the fighters themselves have been clamoring for will take place when two of boxing's biggest little men and hardest punchers, Vic Darchinyan and Jorge Arce, clash on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING (SHOWTIME, 9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast). Darchinyan's newly acquired 115-pound IBF/WBC/WBA world titles will be on the line. The once-beaten Darchinyan (31-1-1, 25 KOs), of Sydney, Australia, by way of Armenia, will be making his first defense since unifying the 115-pound division with a demonstrative ninth-round knockout over Mexico's Cristian Mijares Nov. 1, 2008, on SHOWTIME. Darchinyan, who entered the ring as the IBF champion, walked out with Mijares' WBC and WBA belts after blowing away the favored champion in a career-defining performance. The popular, crowd-pleasing Arce (51-4-1, 39 KOs), of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, is the current WBA interim super flyweight champion and is a former WBC 115-pound and WBO 108-pound titleholder. Arce has been victorious in five consecutive fights, including a fourth-round TKO over Isidro Garcia Nov. 1, 2008, to capture the interim WBA strap, and has won 31 out of his last 32. The only loss during his scintillating run came on a 12-round decision to Mijares on April 14, 2007. The 12-round world title fight, co-promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, and Bob Arum's Top Rank, Inc., will take place at a site to be announced.

Arce should never be on tv. He is a circus freak who escaped from the mental ward. ARCE is what happens when brothers and sisters reproduce over 50 generations ,a skilless retard with the size of a malnourished child.

I love how people bash Gatti and love ARCE who is a poor man's Gatti except half the size(and Gatti is not even an average sized person.)

Vic will knock him stone cold. This might be the only midget fight I ever might actually plan on watching. Don't get it twisted. In my kingdom neither one of this freaks would ever be on tv and midgets are the worst thing for boxing.

arce traveled to korea and beat down a talented champ.

gatti went to canada and was life and death with a midwestern rock farmer.

darchinyan should beat arce, considering the guy is finished and has a worse problem with booze than gatti did with that white girl

Arce has superior skills? Is that what you call getting punched in the face? superior skills?

Arce is done, and it's true what Neil said. Over here it's well know he's around drinking, showing around a different girl each time. Kind of like everyone knew about Castillo. He even got in trouble with the police once because on a drunk binge he went and burned a guy's car he had a problem with.

    Easy nonfight; Vic by KO.

That was clearly a lucky punch. Why do you think Vic wants nothing to do with Mijares? :shit::boohoo:

Darchin style of fighting crabbing makes you think he isn't very skilled...but look at his fights he doesn't get hit much...particularly for a guy that fight with both his hands down to his waist..

his speed is above average..at least for the first 2-3 punches...faster that Arce...

Arce is aggressive...and thats why he will get KTFO by Darchin early...

Vic should beat him pretty handily. Hopefully we'll see another nice KO by Darchinyan.

    I want Montiel-Darchinyan, damn it.

"I can't get enough of Mexican fighters. They bounce real good off the canvas when I hit them," boasted Darchinyan. "Let's see, I've stopped Cristian Mijares, Victor Burgos and Luis Maldonado over the past two years. Unlike Jorge Arce, those three fighters were very tough hombres..

"Defeating Arce won't take much training. It won't even be a fight for me --more like control. I'm going to swat that Spanish Fly. How do you take a guy like Arce seriously? He sucks on lollipops and wears a cowboy hat from a toy store. He looks like "Woody" from the movie "Toy Story." I can picture him running around his house on a broom pretending he's riding a horse. He's a regular Schlepalong Cassidy. When I finally meet him at the press conference do I say "Hola Jorge" or "Howdy, Doody?" Arce is going to be my human piñata. Our fight will be like a Chihuahua against a bull...a raging bull!"
