    Pavlik, Cotto PPV twinbill!
    By Karl Freitag
Promoter Bob Arum revealed today that Top Rank is planning a major pay-per-view telecast on February 21 featuring WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik defending his title, plus two division champion Miguel Cotto fighting for the world title. The telecast will be split between two locations. Pavlik is expected to face Marco Antonio Rubio, while Cotto is expected to face Michael Jennings for the WBO welterweight belt vacated by Paul Williams.

He's just pretty shit really. Completely average in ALL areas, all the tangible categories.

He's not really aggressive, but not really defensive either, not slick, not clever.

    Just very, very average.

It's going to be another Pabvlik - Locket. Jennings is going to look utterly out of his depth, and just get effortlessly pounded by Cotto for 3 or 4 rounds.

I wonder if Pavlik and Cotto will be asked to carry these guys for a while to make it look better.

Fans might feel a bit ripped off paying for double-header to end with two quick KO's.

(although anyone who would shell out cash for this deserves it)

Not really confidence builders. Rubio is Pavlik's mandatory and Cotto is fighting for a vacant belt.

Obviously, it's not PPV worthy but it's also not confidence builders, these guys aren't total cans. Granted they will lose, but both are high ranked.

Who do you expect them to fight? I guess they should just jump right back to the top after having suffered their first losses? I'm not arguing that it should be PPV, it shoudn't no doubt. What I am saying is, it could be worse. Don't buy it, I won't.

Then his high ranking was a joke. Locket was crap as you saw for yourself, he didn't belong in the same ring as Pavlik, let alone have a 0.1% of beating him.

Jennings is about the same level as Lockett. Again, he doesn't belong in the same ring as Cotto. Cotto is going to dispatch him without even breaking a sweat.

considering that Chavez-Vanda II was $44.95, I wouldn't hold my breath. I wouldn't expect it to be less than $40, even if it were "just" Cotto or Pavlik, never mind both on the same card (well, at least telecast).

I thought I posted this earlier, but don't see it so here it goes...

I don't see this plan working out, unless

    - Cotto AND Pavlik will have to accept very short money for this fight

    OR

    - Either HBO or Showtime gives in, and agrees to fund the telecast.

Arum taking money out of his own pocket to have separate camera crews in two arenas, plus the money spent to promote both shows (even if for the same telecast) requires a hell of a PPV return in order for it to make financial sense. That's not a risk I see him taking.

Sounds to me like he's trying to generate momentum for the show, thus either forcing HBO or Showtime into picking up the tab, with the threat of not bringing back either fighter (to HBO) if he's forced to go out of pocket on this card. Basically another game of short con/long con.

Peterson-Diaz and Clottey-Cintron in particular are good fights a lot better than the main events which are frankly embarassing for a PPV....which i think Bob realises so he's may give us a decent undercard to save face

fraknly, with these diaz-peterson and clottey-cintron, a farce of a ppv magically turned into a good one ( but i am not holding my breath on clottey-cintron being on the same card

pavlik got a thorough ass whupping in his last fight. it's questionable whether he can return to his peak for or not. maybe rubio can exploit and somehow and turn it into a good fight.

i've never even heard of this jennings guy. i wouldnt mind seeing cotto vs. cintron at MSG.

I'm much more worried about Cotto than Pavlik. Kelly just got schooled, he can return to form after that. Cotto on the other hand took a true beating, the kind that forever takes something out of a fighter.

i'm not so sure....physically, yes Cotto took more punishment but he should be alright....

Pavlik got beaten because he simply wasn't good enough, he was schooled....you can't dismiss that.....the gulf in that fight was so evident......look what happened to Lacy? ...

whereas after 6 rounds vs Margarito....Cotto was putting on an excelllent display....too bad that Margarito is an absolute beast....and in the end, his physical strengths overwhelmed Miguel......but there were positives to take from that fight (i think Pavlik would struggle to find one), and reversing the result in a rematch will be very hard but not impossible

cotto took severe punishment, but was at least winning some rounds. pavlik won zero rounds vs. hopkins and couldn't do a damn thing. mentally, it's gotta be tough knowing that he can be thoroughly dominated.
