I'm sure it's just jealousy. Anyone who puts in their time on public access definitely is more than lucky.

How do you smoke somebody in a boxing debate, Reed? Isn't most of boxing based on MYTH? :dunno: How do you disprove somebody else's theory or opinion?

To further expand on this... most football prognosticators are full of shit. In fact, in most team sports. There's always the exception in every sport - usually an articulate ex-athlete. But for the most part, I hear a whole lotta Monday morning quarterbacking a lot more so than expert pre-fight analysis that ever plays out.

Not so much in boxing, where the talking head who just doesn't get it is usually the exception.

One thing I can say Larry was right about and Kellerman was wrong about was.........The Klitschkos were not quitting jokes afterall. Kellerman tore into these guys some years back while Merchant rode their nuts hard.

Reed, I was saying, how do you disprove somebody else's theory/opinion in a boxing debate? Even here, when we have debates, nobody gives an inch. LOL! I expect Merchant to put a beatdown on Kellerman, telling him "I was ringside for Ali/Frazier while you were still sucking on your momma's tits!"
End of discussion right there!

This is correct. They both have their good and bad sides but to me overall, Merchant added more value to the broadcasts.

Kellerman seems like a good guy, he just simply hates European fighters. Merchant hated fighters who fought safety-first

I doubt that Merchant had that position to begin with. That doesn't sound like him at all. He may have changed his mind sooner than Max, but I believe Larry criticized the Klitschkos like most other Americans at the time, interchanging them and meshing their separate characteristics.

Larry was fucking horrible in the 90's when the Klitsckko's were coming up and I'd bet he hadn't seen film of the Klitschko's until the week before they were shown on HBO, respectively, if even then.

I watched some of that show, and the FSN one, and frankly I was never that impressed with him.

A lot of it seemed similar to his boxing knowledge...he'd quote a pitcher's WHIP or batter's on-base percentage, but that doesn't take much insight to use the numbers somebody else compiled.

Much of what he ended up saying sounded like paraphrases of other people's arguments (like Moneyball or a report, or a sports column or whatever else was making the rounds at the time).

Most sports talk is basically that, anyways. There's one report issued and then numerous different takes (that all sound the same once you adjust the volume)...be it in print, on the radio or on television.

And I never found a group of sports writers (or sports talk show hosts) to be all that interesting or compelling, no matter what subject they're talking about..and the one's on PTI - at least the episodes I watched - seemed to be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

gatti's a token brawler on kellerman's list of hippety-hop fighters he roots for unconditionally.

kellerman has a narrow-minded view o what a skilled fighter is and the fact that he's a student of many other sports explains exactly why.

ok. i'm willing to concede it's a preference in style and not race. should a boxing journalism be forgiven, or even afforded such preferences? at least out-wardly. and yes. it is outward - that's for sure.

totally inappropriate that max would partake in that video. if this isn't proof of his biased commentary, i don't know what is.

What does a rap video from 1994 have to do with his boxing commentary years later?

Everyone already knows he loves Whitaker, but he didn't commentate on his fights anyway.

    Jake:
All joking aside, I think this was one of your worst takes ever. Kellerman is just a fact plugger. He knows facts. He clearly has no understanding of applying that knowledge. He is one of the worst predicters outside of Lok and Double L and he is on that level. I think intelligence and "knowledge" are applying the facts and either connecting facts to weave a theory or applying those facts to making predictions. I don't want to sound like Stingerkarl either, but if you have never boxed it is basically impossible to be knowledgeable. I am not saying boxing makes you an expert. Lok has skills and he knows nothing about anything. However, without having boxed, it is impossible to understand the sport. Kellerman is just a nerdy rich kid that wants to be a "stereotypical urban" black person. I am not hating on him either. I just don't think he is good or knowledgeable in his given profession. He is actually inept.
