I agree with that. I don't think the fix was in either but Oscar's quit job was somewhat odd

He was intimidated by Manny's speed I think, and too old to pull the trigger or time Manny. He could have at least gone for broke, and just start rushing at Manny opening up, but he didnt have the balls to do that, and that approach woulda gotten him TKO'd outright instead of quitting on the stool.

I doubt it was a fix, but I dont HIGHLY doubt it. Like I said, I wouldnt put ANYTHING past Oscar after the dive he took against Hopkins, but I doubt he'd let himself get beaten to a pulp just to throw a fight. By the 7th round, the fight started looking like RJ-Hall. Oscar wouldnt willing take such a beating.

That's easier said then done. Once you're getting beaten to the punch consistently like Oscar was, "going all out" doesn't even seem to cross most fighter's minds for obvious reasons.

If that was the case every Roy Jones opponent would have just rushed him after they experience a number of rounds of getting smacked around. It's not an MMA fight where you can just rush a guy and tackle him.

Nobody has even tried to explain the odd weight issue.

"why would he take such a savage beating" He took a beating because he cant just go in there and fall down. He did that once already and a few people accused him of taking a dive. So what is he gonna do here? Take another dive and face the feds investigating his sorry ass?

Is like people refuse to believe that someone can be competent enough to properly fix a fight. That involves getting hit.

Im not the first one here in Las Vegas who questions what took place last night. At MGM during the fighta few people were yelling "FIX!".

And lol at people trying to speculate on why or why not he would fix a fight. No one knows him here or knows his financial situation.

All I am saying is that weight issue, reluctance to throw punches, relectance to run, relectance to hold.

I watched round 7 and was in awe. ANy Human being would either run away from a beating, hold on to Manny's arms to stop him from pummeling them, or fire any sort of punch to get Manny off of him.

Oscar has a good chin. The featherweight's punches weren't enough to knock him down. HE STOOD THERE AND TOOK IT. He might've told himself that he wouldnt take a dive but he would not fight back.

I know many here are trying to convince themselves that boxing is NEVER fixed and there's no way that someone would EVER throw a fight, but between this and the Hopkins fight, you gotta be suspicious about one of the two, if not both.

What I am saying is that if someone wanted to throw a fight and not get caught, this is how it would look. I guess most of the people in this thread would like to see a fighter walk into the ring, take a few punches, then fall down writhing in pain for a 10 count, prompting an investigation by the feds.

God forbid someone actually doing a good job fixing the outcome of a fight.

Yu overestimate your intelligence toots bottom line. A few million in bets?:lol:

Ron has said and it is true that one can easily accumulate a considerable amount in debts as a chronic gambler, a lot more than a few million. Do you know the extent of De La Hoya's debts? Do you know how much money was made on this fight? No you don't.

Value your opinion and learn to value perspective. The fact is that it is more than plausable that Hoya did something fishy... whether a complete fix, or just a quit job is yet to be determined.

What's the claim exactly...that DLH wanted to lose, but to make it look realistic, he didn't eat after the weigh in and probably spent unnecessary hours in the sauana right up until his ringwalk?

And maybe slipped himself a mickey as well?

Also I think there is a good motivation for Oscar to lose this fight. He knows he isn't that big of a draw anymore and winning this fight wouldn't have done anything to help it. His only fight left that anyone would have cared for was Hatton.

Pacquiao however has an astonishingly big fanbase behind him. With a huge win over Oscar he won over plenty of new fans. Also the fight made him a credible fighter at any division between 130-147lbs and against any champ. And if it just so happened that Oscar was his promoter, he could make shitload more cash than he ever could fighting himself.

Again, I am not saying this happened but it isn't out of reach either

Ok see thats the point here.... As an isolated incident I have seen fighters do things that violate common sense... Ray Austin taking Klit's punches comes to mind. I didn't think the Hopkins fight at the time was a fix becasue it was well, an isolated incident.... But here is the thing:

    1) The weight issue was very very fishy I remember thinking "what the fuck?" it just made no sense along with the radically different weights given, etc.

    2) Then the fight Oscar's reactions and mind you this is after people have been saying that Oscar is in great shape, he is making weight easy, etc.

    3) His total lack of combat. He didn't even try to jab or be aggressive and they not tying up at all.

To me when I watch this fight it looks fishy as hell.

Maybe it was just a quit job extrodinaire I don't know but something was fishy here!

edit: and finally it is a statistical anomolie that the board was wrong on two major fights... especially one major fight of this magnitude.

My intelligence is rated correctly - obscenely high.

Your intelligence is the one that needs a full investigation if you believe this fight was a fix. Oscar took a beating, a BEATING, his face was a mess.

That simply doesn't happen in fixed fights, fighters don't go in there and willingly take a huge beating to initiate the "fix"

Did he snap his head back on purpose? Did they put putty and makeup on him to look like he's been beaten up between rounds?

    It was choreographed.

Manny was probably stomping his foot every time he threw a punch just for audio effect.

I do agree that hearing his weight - both after the weigh-in and after they announced it on fight night - were "what the fuck?" moments for me.

    It's hard to understand.

If Ron knew Vegas he would have had his money on Manny.

That´s the one that gets me. Complains endlessly about all the writings on the wall, but he still sat on the 3500 on Oscar.

Oscar wanted to be as light as possible to deal with the speed of Manny. Beristain is usually a small fighter trainer, who probably molded the game plan after JMM and he had no prior experience with DLH.

    I'm open minded so therefore I definitely look at all scenarios presented by everybody here. All I'd like to say is, it's not impossible that DLH may have come to lose. But there is one thing I would like to add;
When Pacquaio hit DLH with a flush left hand, DLH's head actually snapped all the way backwards! And when Pacquiao hit DLH with a left in the stomach, DLH doubled over. Not sure if that's the correct term but let's say, DLH's body contorted and I've rarely seen that. There was some very serious power in those punches DLH took and they were coming from every angle in large volume.
Ok, I'm done. Thanks for reading.

There was something unusual about Pac's punches. I don't think his punches were supposed to be that powerful at this weight. He was making really loud thudding sounds upon contact with DLH's face and body. Seems like he carried his power up last night. Didn't think he could.

    Oscar against Hopkins.

A sparring session with a dive, that's what fixed fights look like. Not one fighter getting tagged clean repeatedly, getting his head snapped back, his face swollen up, then quitting on his stool.

    Really?

I was so disinterested in this fight from the beginning I guess I didn't pay much attention to the details. I knew there were penalties for coming in over at the weigh-in, but I didn't know DLH had to stay on weight on fight night. That just sounds like a ridiculous stipulation for DLH to have agreed to.

So with a few people alreday suspicious about the Hopkins fight, he's supposed to pull the same act? He'd go to prison for 20 years if he did that.

Why do you bother to respond since you don't even read what I post? I said in the last sentence I don't think it was a fix. I am just trying to reason out if it is even possible since it is obvious it is unlikely. You know, objectively.

Second, I do not think steroids ruin boxing or any other sport. They are just a part of it. In fact, they make fighters better.

Also even if this fight, or Lewis-Holyfield I, or DLH-Hopkins or some other fight was fixed, it doesn't change the fact that most fights are not. And it doesn't change the fact that I was thrilled about them all, in a good way.

And Oscar isn't that big a draw anymore because he LOST that fight last year in uninspiring fashion. There are less big fights left for him than there is for Manny, that is all

Oscar has been a pro for FIFTEEN YEARS. He knows how to control his weight. WHY would he not come in at 147 then gain 10 lbs for the fight? Its like he tried to give up his size advantage.

I use the word fix because

    1. The betting line had unusually suspicious movement. I told everyone I know that someone put massive bets in on MP to make the line move like that

    2. All the money was on Pacquiao in a fight that many perceived to be a mismatch in Oscar's favor.

    3. The bigger fighter gave up his biggest advantage

    4. One fighter looked like he was trying to lose.
