Manny Pacquiao is an All time Great!!!

What this man has done in his boxing career is nothing short of outstanding(and unexpected by "experts"),he's the modern day Henry Armstrong.His resume is good enough to put in top 15 or 10 all time.

but the opportunity to be top 15 is there...he can stay at 140 and play around...jump up and down from 35-40 maybe try to beat all champions in those divisions...

 

He is a modern day Henry Armstrong. I can't think of any other fighter who has done what Pacquiao has done. The guy fought as a junior flyweight for a big part of his career. :laughing:

 

Can people stop repeating what HBO tells 'em...modern day Armstrong this and that...but didn't Armstrong fought Champions? Now if Manny had done that to Margarito..then yes..he is the Modern Day Armstrong...

Hatton and Tszyu, and DLH - Chavez are dumb examples. The guys who got beat were SMALLER than their opponents.

This was Pacquiao's first fight at 147, a 2 division jump, that's what makes it significant. Not only that, but he only had ONE fight at 135 before that, so it's really a 3 division jump. There aren't many fighters who have done that in boxing history.

 

The fuck are you talking about? Pacquiao is fighting EIGHT classes above where he won his first world title! That's not Oscar beating on Chavez, that's Oscar beating on Holyfield.

Hut*Hut makes a very valid point as silly as it sounds on paper. What Pacquiao did yesterday would be considered SILLY, if someone predicted it 1 week ago.

 

Bottom line, it was a silly fight with no meaning at all. I'm really glad for Manny and he looked good. Manny's fans be happy and claim glories for him now all you want, you deserve it. Let's just see him fight a non-shot fighter now in a fight that means something. Merci.

There's a reason Oscar did that, and he was trying to counter the enormous speed advantage presented by Pacquiao by being light. You can't take away from Pacquiao's victory because of a tactical mistake by Oscar. :dunno:

 

I'm trying to take something away from his victory by pointing out DLH's weight on fight night?

But DLH's size advantage did about as much for him as Chris Byrd's did against Shaun George.

I guess I should clarify.

When I was watching the weigh-in with my fiance during the evening, when I saw how light Oscar came in, I immediately said, "He's trying to be light so he can keep up with Pacquiao's speed." I'm not a boxing trainer, or anything like that, but it was obvious as anything that Oscar didn't want to be too heavy because he knew that Pacquiao's #1 advantage would be his blazing speed. Tactically on paper, it seems like a smart decision. It didn't end up being a smart decision because it seemed like Dela Hoya left too much of himself in training camp, but that's a tactical mistake on Dela Hoya's part. If Dela Hoya would've come in at 147, and weighed 156 during fight night, he would've been much more competitive and we might not be having this discussion.

The bottom line is, Oscar made a huge tactical mistake, and Manny capitalized on it. That's all I'm saying.

I had him in my top 15 all time prior to this fight and was ridiculed for it. Surely there can be no doubt now.

Remember those guys who a year ago (who were disagreeing with me) who were saying than Juan Diaz was too big for this man.

I agree with that. It was a huge tactical mistake on his part. It had an impact on the fight. I just don't think mentioning it is trying to take away from Pacquiao's win.

I'm actually glad it went down the way it did. I wasn't expecting such an emphatic win for either said, but it coming the way it did was certainly better for the sport than any DLH win.

Pacquiao-Hatton will have real passion behind it when it takes place next year.

 

It really is a unique achievement in boxing history.

 

I will definitely have to make that the first big fight I attend live if it's anywhere in Britain.ray:ray:

But the best thing about last night's fight is that tens of thousands of people in the Philippines will be getting MUCH needed aid from Pacquiao's earnings. I don't think a lot of people realize how much Pacquiao's money helps people coping with hunger, and poverty. Pacquiao is such a willing giver of his money, that I sometimes wonder if he really cares about material wealth.

Part of me also wishes that I could be more like that. ray:

People overrate the hell outta some of the old timers. Manny isnt yet top 10-15 all time material, but he's top 20-25 already. As are Hopkins, Roy, and Floyd.

 

He'll be another Joe Louis if he keeps giving away money like that.
