Why did he schedule it on the same night? I think this can only hurt his own event. Seems stupid to me.

Because it's nowhere near 'equally' fucking the Margarito fight. Affliction is hanging on by a string, and if this PPV bombs, for all intents and purposes, they're out of the MMA business. Golden Boy was bought in to help Affliction, but putting a major fight like Mosley\Margarito on the same night in the same market isn't exactly doing Affliction any favors.

Chances are good this PPV was gonna bomb anyway, but this could be the final nail in the coffin for Affliction.

If it wasn't for GBP Affliction would have died already. The date is not GBP fault anyway. There are only a few dates a year that HBO gives out and they gave 1/24 to Shane

how exactly is the location of the margarito fight going to affect the ppv buys for affliction? the gate, maybe. ppv buys will be the same whether the boxing match is in vegas or l.a.

Actually, it's very different. Golden Boy is supposed to be partners with Affliction, not competing with them. UFC was never in any kind of partnership with EliteXC.

This is like if UFC decided to run an event the same night in the same market as a WEC event, since they're under the same umbrella.

Don't you think there's a huge overlap in the MMA and Boxing fan base?

Hell, most of us on this site are a perfect microcosm. We like boxing and MMA and most will have to choose between Fedor or Margarito.

Different sport but similar fan base.

REED KNOWs there is, but Every Other Time the Similarities R Noted, TFK Throws Out his "Baseball" Analogy & INSISTS that they're 2 DIFFERENT Sports...

TFK's a Good Dude, but he's Only BITCHING Because Boxing is Stepping on MMA's Toes...When MMA Steps on It's OWN Toes (by Scheduling Programs on THE SAME Day or Grossly UNDERPAYING their Performers), TFK Doesn't Give a Shit...

No, I'm bitching because Golden Boy is supposed to be supporting Affliction, and instead, they are competing against it. It would be like if the NFL got into the boxing business, and they decided to hold their biggest card of the year on a PPV the same night and in the same city as The Superbowl.

This has nothing to do with 'Boxing vs MMA' and even less to do with the UFC, salaries, competing MMA cards or any of that. It has to do with bad business on the part of Golden Boy.

But I guess it should be expected. I've said all along that Affliction's business model is terrible and the company is doomed to fail. And the partnership that was supposed to insure Affliction's survival will instead put the final nail in it's coffin.

How is it bad business man. You act like GBP can just pick and choose what dates they get from HBO and to schedule a PPV.

GBP didn't pick 1/24 for Shane HBO did and GBP would be dumb as shit to turn down that money for that date just so Affliction can do 10,000 ppv buys again.

FUck GBP, uncomprehensible move by them. Affliction II is an amazing card imo, I really like the Mosley Margarito fight but as we know GBP, it'll be the only fight worth watching on the PPV, I'll buy affliction and watch Margarito-Mosley on a stream. Fedor-Arlovski is the best match in the hw division that can be made right now, and I like Lindland-Belfort and Yvell-Barnett a lot

If you love MMA, Lindland/Belfort has your mouth watering. Should make for a great fight. The whole card rocks. I'm buying.

They should have them all on the same card. That would be revolutionary

    :nono::nono: no it's not

I heard that Sokoudjou vs Babalu was added, another great even crossroad fight, the winner is back in contention, the loser is probably done as a serious player ( though Sok is really young and could of course bounce back in a couple of years )

Indeed, and I think they'd garner more PPV buys this way than the sum of the 2 events individually

Lindland is 1 dimensioal and Belfort is the biggest waste of talent in MMA ever.

Other than Fedor\Arlovski, I really don't have any interest in this card. And that's probably gonna be a blow out, or even worse, a boring fight. We've all seen that when Arlovski gets hit, he goes into survival mode and loses all his agression, and he's gonna get hit by Fedor.

But the rest of the card is pedestrian at best. Soak-a-Jew and Babalu is a matchup of 2 fighters who couldn't cut it in the UFC, Yvel is a joke, Belfort hasn't been relevant in ages, and I could give 2 shits about Lindland. Lauzon\Hordecki is somewhat interesting, but it's not enough to make me shell out for the PPV.

Normally I choose MMA events over boxing if they conflict, but I'll definitely be watching Margarito\Mosely on HBO, and I'll probably have an internet stream of Affliction on the laptop.
