Oscar De La Hoya. The moniker given to him throughout his career was “Golden Boy.â€￾

He was touted as a 10- time world champion spanning six weight classes. He was the only American boxer to bring home the gold in the ’92 Olympics.

He set revenue records that may never be matched in the boxing world. HBO’s mouthpieces noted that athletes in major American sports don’t even make 100 million in “36 minutesâ€￾ of fighting once a year.

Good article. Great propaganda by Mayweather Sr.

The guy was COMPLETELY OFF in his pick prior to DLH/Pacquiao. His opinion is about as meaningful as anybody here at this time. Plus Hatton's his boy. Go figure...

Then why should anyone read this?

Sr. made some good points there I thought. I didn't see any coherent fight plan on the part of ODH as a matter of fact. And even if there were one, like I said, and ODH abandoned it early on intent on getting the knockout, were there a plan B you can bet he would've resorted to it when he began getting his azz handed to him.

And I also agree that ODH in his heart felt he was fighting three guys in there, not just one: Manny, Arum and Roach.

I'm not so sure I agree that Hatton will be able to dismantle Pacquiao as Sr. suggests, given Pacquiao's left-handed and awkward style, not to mention his speed, and a rare height advantage, but it will be an exciting fight to watch I'm sure.

And although Manny's trainer conceded that PBF would be the toughest challenge for Manny given his speed and intelligence, I'm not so sure I agree given some of the other giant welter-weights out there who surely could knock Pacquiao out if they connected (Margarito, Williams, Cotto, Clottey, etc.).

At 147, it's PBF's speed advantage that allows him to defeat bigger men (well, ODH and one other bum), but against Pacquiao he won't have the advantage, at least not to the extent he'd be used to. Plus, he's notoriously bad at facing southpaws.

My guess is the only way PBF comes back is if Pacquiao beats Hatton, or Margarito falls from his peak. Otherwise, he'll be expected to fight Tony, having already beaten Hatton, and we all know he's scared shitless of Margarito.

    Notoriously bad at facing southpaws?

Outside of the first four rounds against Judah, can you remind me which southpaw he had trouble with? He KO'd Sharmba Mitchell. Chop Chop landed a couple good shots early, but got his ass whupped along the way.

I think Pacman is alot better but Hatton will just swarm him and run over him. kind of like Smoking Joe Frazier would do to say Calzaghe

Hatton has a good shot here, IMO.

Freddie Roach said on the Jim Rome show yesterday they won't fight him in Manchester, but that Top Rank could give Hatton the foreign rights to the fight if he fights Manny in Vegas.

It is very easy to go over-board with Saturday's fight....before the weekend i was giving Hatton a good chance, and i stand by that....Pacquaio hasn't turned into Mayweather...they'd meet head-on....if Hatton can take Manny's shots, then he has a great chance....he should be a lot stronger than Manny

  12. Hanz

    Hanz Roberto Duran

He won't take Pacquiao's shots for long. Hatton is a bleeder. And he won't be physically stronger than Pacquaio.

Based on Pacquaio being a physical marvel. If DLH couldn't bully Pacman at any point, how will little Hatton?

....ole' lead boots Oscar couldn't get close enough so it wasn't even a factor.....Hatton, is natural at the weight (DLH clearly wasn't) and a lot quicker on his feet.

True but the sting of Pacquiao's punches will open up Hatton. I'll still watch the fight. Although it might be nicer if the fight is made at 147.

Because Hatton's not a finesse fighter?

i just remember his father screaming that he would never face another south-paw again after one of his more difficult match-ups at 130 against a south-paw. i forget who it was.

Mitchell was awful at 147. He never beat anyone there.

So your statement about Floyd and southpaws is based on a comment from his dad, not on actual fights.

    Got it.

Exactly. Physical fighting is what Hatton does. Even when Oscar started out and was beating smaller opponents, he just blasted out of them there with his huge advantage in power and speed. He never really "bullied" anyone the way Ricky does.

Hence the adjective, "notorious." On the other hand, I don't know that he's fought any elite south-paws. So maybe he does okay against mediocre ones fighting above their optimal weight, like Judah and Mitchell, but I don't recall his ever fighting any noteworthy southpaws at 130 or 135, when he was actually involved in real fights.

  24. Father of Muzse

    Father of Muzse Undisputed Champion

Judah was the undisputed champ at 147 at one point, something he never accomplished at 140. I'd say 147 was his optimal weight.

    You've undermined your own post.

Pac is wayy better then Hatton. The crazy thing about Pac is his upperbody movement and balance is getting better, so he is still improving. His power and skill is too much for Hatton. This fight is an expensive tune up for Pac.

  27. Neil

a four rounder in his second pro fight? a fight which his father was not even training him for? otherwise I don't recall mayweather jr facing any southpaws at 130. surely your impeccable memory isn't failing you???

anyhow I'm with the joy boy on this one. hatton whups pacquaio.
