The Thing w/JM Marquez is that he Almost ALWAYS Wins MORE Rounds than his Opponent, Manny Pac & Barrera INCLUDED...But by that Same Token, Marquez Almost ALWAYS Seems to Taste the CANVAS N his Bouts (Against ELITE Guys), which Makes the SCORING Problematic...

He's also not a big name fighter who everybody wants to win and be moved to bigger things...

Hapanstance. Along with Reed's point. Marquez is as good as Pacquia imo, and they both could have gotten the nod in their fights.

Marquez has a hard time staying off the canvas. He has a good defense actually, but since his style is naturally a counter-puncher, when he's actually pursuing (like he was against Pac in the rematch), he hasn't developed the head movement and intuition to punch while in pursuit, and usually gets clocked pretty good in the process.

Also I think Marquez is too cautious sometimes. He should take more risk instead of waiting for counter punch opportunities. Against Barrera, that almost killed him. I thought Barrera lost that fight by a point regardless but it was razor close despite what the judges say.

I doubt the sport of boxing is against him.

I think his counter punching style is a gift and a curse.

the decisions he lost against Pacquiao it was simply the more popular fighter getting the W

Agains't Norwood it was for either guy

against Chris John he got robbed clearly

That's the thing about Marquez the guy is a 3 division champ and the biggest knock on his carreer is losing close fights.

Yet people still give him shit as if he is supposed to dominate fighters that nobody dominates.

When he used to counter punch more people labeled him boring especially for a Mexican fighter. When he started taking more chances people claimed he was declining because he was getting hit more.

I think some people just don't wanna see him succeed. I think some never though he would still be around right now at the level he is at.

well, the norwood fight was difficult to score because of freddie's unwatchable style and the chris john fight, he lost a decision after multiple point deductions and also because he fought an indonesian in his home turf.

i thought the barrera fight was somewhat close and he got the decision rather comfortably.

both pacquiao fights were close and only 3 out of 6 judges thought marquez lost.

    lol...that's absurd

    how is that absurd?

Pacquiao had just destroyed Barrera before the first fight with JMM clearly he was the more popular and more famous fighter going into that fight.

same with the remath. Hell Pacquiao was surprised to get the W right after the fight. He knows he lost and it showed.

Pacquiao is way more popular than JMM and it's no secret and that always helps in close decisions.

Yeah guys, LATINQUEER is right. Pacquiao is the more popular fighter, that's why Marquez went to the wrong corner at the end of the third round. He was going to ask for an autograph.

again more ignorance from Alabama. Big deal, he had a bad round against one of the most fierce punchers. He still smacked the shit out of Pacquiao for 8-rounds at least. Geez, how dumb can some people be.

Ford had the bout 115-112 for Pacquiao. Roth had it 115-112 for Marquez. Though I had Marquez winning by the same score as Roth

My Sweet Science card was the reverse of Miller’s, tipping toward Marquez 114-113 in points and 7-5 in rounds. Twice in the days leading up to the fight I watched Marquez-Pacquiao I. Both times my card came out 113-112 Marquez in points and 8-4 in rounds, same as it was four years earlier at ringside.

Close decisions are kindof like a coinflip. Anyone can lose a few coinflips in a row and that's all it is. Although IMO Marquez beat Pac pretty easily both times.

There's only ONE person who obviously hates Pacquiao on this board, and that's you, because he beat up your boyfriend twice. :atu:

I don't hate Pacquiao. I constantly give him props for being exciting and because he has improved. He has come along way from being a one trick pony

I agree, but I had Barrera winning the fight by a point, so Marquez got a close decision in that one.

Yeah for sure. I wouldn't have had a problem giving that fight to Barrera. I think Barrera got robbed of a knockdown too. Marquez was out, if Barrera had another 20 seconds instead of that BS point deduction, he might have stopped Marquez in that round.

the close decisions he lost were:

    1. norwood (fell prey to norwood's stink job)
    2. pacquiao II
    3. John (haven't seen it but from what Ihear JMM won the fight)

But let's not forget he got the close decision against: MAB

    1. Don King
    2. Pacquiao's global fame and HBO plus Arum
    3. Indonesia

His win over MAB: legit IMO but preordained by MAB's one-sided loss to Pacquiao.

In footballl they have some sort of system for establihing which teams play which. Boxing is no different except their methodology could easily be viewed as corrupt and unfair.

    BTW,

still can't belive JMM lost to Norwood; that referee let him mug JMM like a criminal.
