In the modern era and stuff.

I don't mean like knocked out cold in a couple of rounds and then winning the rematch, because that can just be put down to being caught cold, I mean taking a sustained beating and losing a lop-sided decision or late ko, and then turning the tables and winning the rematch. anyone think of an example?

mosley got beat quite comfortably by wright and then took it to an MD in the rematch but he still lost and he didnt exactly get battered as such, so hmmm, i dunno.

    you rrrrrrrrrrr's

I don't know if "dominated" works, but Quintana clearly won the first fight against Williams.

BTW, I assume we're talking about rematches that came relatively soon after the first fight.

    Morales - Pacman

Morales dominated Pac like a schoolgirl in their first fight. I remember reading alot of the Morales beats Pac 9/10 times type of posts after that fight.

Then Pac came back and KTFO'd him cold twice.

yea it needs to be a fight they did actually lose first time round, not got a dodgy decision win or lucky one punch come-from-behind ko, just a complete one-sided beating

Not a domination, but in most people's opinions (not mine) Spinks beat Judah pretty handily in their first match, especially over the first half of their fight. Then Judah turned Spinks into his bitch for 9 or so rounds before KO'ing him in the rematch.

A 7-5, 8-4 type fight is "dominating someone like a schoolgirl"??

Um, Mosley-Forrest is the closest to an example I can think of. I had Mosley winning the rematch as I remember. You could make a case for giving Barrera the nod in the second Junior Jones fight as well. Judges do often seem to score rematches with the first fight in mind though....Oscar-Mosley being another example of that.

He pretty much toyed with him. Pac won a couple, may 3-4 rounds in the fight, but Morales clearly won. It wasn't debatable, and the 115-113 cards weren't representative of what actually happened in the ring. In the aftermath of the fight, very few people were looking for a rematch considering how the fight played out. It wasn't until after Pac had another good win and Morales showed weakness against Raheem that the rematch seemed to make much sense.

Ali was dominated in the first Frazier fight and won the rematch.

"dominated" is tooo strong a word...Frazier didnt dominate Ali...neither did Morales dominated Pac..in their first fight...

There is NO WAY Ali was dominated in the first Frazier fight.

Well done, DMAN, I honestly can't think of two worse examples than the ones you listed.

There was nothing dominant about the first Morales-Pac fight. Close but clear? Yes. Dominant? Hell no.

There might be a few people who thought Spinks beat Zab with even a little room to spare... but I can honestly say that I've yet to meet that person. Most people I know had it a draw or a two-point swing either way (I had it a draw).

Honestly, though, it's been so long since I've seen the fight I can't remember how I'd classify Ferguson's win..."dominant" or not.

I'm not sure about dominated. Frazier took quite a beating in his own right and was hurt by Ali more than once in that fight. I think that score was a little closer than what most feel also.

Morales toyed with Pacquiao. So much that he gave away the last round when he turned southpaw and started clowning.

Maybe Pacquiao won that last round and made it closer but it wasn't him imposing his will it was Morales giving it away.

Let's not forget Pacquiao's bullshit excuse once again about the gloves. :atu:

and before anybody talks shit about the remach and rubber match. Pacquaio improved after the first fight and that made the difference. So NO it wasn't the gloves.

Exactly... hindsight is 20/20 after the 2 rematches, but at the time is certainly appeared Morales toyed with Pacman.. especially the last round where it seemed he gave it away.

He didn't have to try to hard to make an excuse. He didn't get to wear the gloves he wanted. However, the headbutt that had blood gushing down his face really didn't help anything either. Regardless, Morales won that fight very clear but that was not a domination. A domination is more like Pac-ODLH. A guy who gets shutout and stopped, not a guy who wins 4-5 rounds and gives a good effort.

Is that what you call getting your ass kicked the last round? Morales tried to get cute because he had won enough rounds but he certainly got his ass kicked that round. There's no guarantee he would have won it anyways. Morales doesn't get extra points for fighting like a dumbass.
