dsimon writes: really? Valuev is similar to Vlad and Vitali? JUst plain wrong. Fact is a lot of the bigger guys do not have power Valuev, MCcline, etc. Valuev fights nothining like either Klit and the klit brothers look a hell of a lot more similar in this regard and most regards. And... this considers the fact that virtually all the guys we are discussing prefer a Euro limited orthodox style, with the possible exception of Mccline. The differences between the Klits have to do with the thinking and yeah Vitali sets up different than his brother... but the similarities are evident, including in the stats. Valuev has nowhere the KO percentage of the KLits for example. No MItchell the fact is that to be a big heavy in the next century is not necessarily to have power.
dsimon writes: Perhaps Arguably, perhaps... Toney whom is one of my faves, would not be near the ring in the heavyweight division when Cooney fought. Arguably a guy like Tex Cobb was a better fighter than Williams, arguably. At the very least Peter fought Nathan. :atu: What is funny is your attempt to stretch peter with the Williams victory... its an obvious stretch, especialy considering that Peter went life and death with Jameel. Its the best anyone could do Reed... and that says a lot about the Nigerian wet Dreams comp ultimately. I can accept the possability that both guys were equal and agree to disagre on the finer points with the provisio that Cooney was very unlike Peter in a fundamental respect that bears mentioning: What is so frustrating to somoene like myself to whom boxing= heavyweight division... is that Peter is extremely talented. When he did train after Toney embarrased him, he showed what he could do and yeah... he could be ten times the fighter Cooney was.. absolutely no argument there. Instead he is a loser and impo not half the fighter. Cooney by comparison made the most out of not much natural talent. He was willful and tough and in that division if it was not on old legs Cooney would have been a total journeyman. Instead he worked his ass off beat some good people and got a lunch date with the Easton Assasin. If peter worked half as hard as Cooney it would suprise me.
Haye doesn't hit as hard as Lewis - The Haymaker is going to sleep in this one. Wlad would have been the "easier" fight and then move on to Vitali.
Credit to Haye for taking the fight; he said he wanted to fight the best HW out there and, IMHO, he now is. Unfortunately for him (and for those of us who think he brings something to a very, VERY staid HW table), he has picked the one fight he has very little chance of winning. Wlad's chin always meant that Haye has a chance of being the last man standing in a short, exciting knockdown spree between the two but Vitali is too big and too sound to fall for that- he'll keep Haye on the end of his jab for as long as it takes to land the shot that beats him. Even Haye's speed advantage doesn't count for much, because when he lands and despite his having seemingly decent power at HW, he doesn't hit hard enough to put Vitali away- Haye sure doesn't crack like Lennox did and Lennox couldn't put Vitali down despite busting his face into a vagina-fest. Stranger things have happened, I suppose, but I'd be very surprised if Haye's HW career doesn't end here, before it has even begun. MTF
Nope, he sure doesn't, and worryingly for a guy relying on speed and power, Haye should note that despite the state of Vitali's grill, he was still standing in front of Lennox... MTF
Exactly and was genuinely disappointed when the fight was stopped. Credit to Haye he has some balls but Wlad is the easier fight for sure. I was hoping to would take on Wlad first maybe sneak a W and then go after the big bro as I would like to see how he deals with both brothers. If I had to make a prediction it would be two defeats for the Haymaker and probably the end of his career, this would be a shame as he would be entertaining against 99% of the HW's out there.
For some reason probably related to irrational hate, I'd rather hoped to see Haye splatter a few of Werren's HW uberbums- Sprott and Fraudley spring to mind- before he went and fought one of the brother's Klit. Shame :: MTF
For sure, I would prefer to see Haye fight at HW for a year or so and work his way up to Wlad and Vitali. Haye is a very exciting HW and would destroy most of the guys out there. Fraudley lost again to the Irish cabbie !!artie:
I have to admit my initial reaction to this fight was one of disappointment at heavyweight boxing's last hope taking the fight he has the least chance of winning. But after giving it some time to sink in I'm now extremely EXCITED about this one! Sure Vitaly's gonna be a big favourite, but as dsimon says - the history of heavyweight boxing is littered with shocks and this is how young fighters take the first steps towards becoming legendary! And Haye has the kind of irrational, unshakeable arrogance that pulling something like this off requires. And the hell with it, even if Haye gets splattered like we expect, we know this is gonna be a fight with INCREDIBLE, jump around your living room action while it lasts - a full fledged return to the kind of violent drama that defined heavyweight boxing in the 20th century but which has been DRAINED out of it by Wlad the accountant and his supporting cast of flabby, limp willed losers. Vitaly & Haye both guarantee action by themselves, together they're gonna be fucking wild! artie: Cannae wait!
Valuev is also 7'1, over 300 pounds, without much of an amateur career. His path in the sport is hardly similar to the Klitschko's. Vitali's style is far more unique than Wladimir's. Using stats to prove their "styles" are similar, though, doesn't seem like much of an argument. Yeah, they both have high knockout percentages. How is that a comparison of their left jabs, or straight right hands, or their defense, or their footwork?
It would certainly the table for an even bigger fight with Wladimir. If Vitali had the business sense of the Golden Girl he'd tank this fight.
Interesting. There have been a lot of stories that Gomez handled Vitali easily back in the Universum days, and now it seems Vitali is willing to give up the belt to fight Haye instead.
Yeah? Where? Or are you the typical sh*t stirrer who said Lennox looked scared when Tyson threw down his hat and approached him at the press conference only to suffer the biggest beatdown of his life.::
dsimon writes: Belts schmelts this is the fight as Hut Hut said it a lot better than I could have. This has potential to be memorable. I will say this: Haye has to have in his mind that no matter what he can gain some cred by doing a good job. He does not have to necessarily win but he has to give a great accoutn of himself... I think he had it in him to do so, I hope so.
dsimon writes: I think it is admirable that you can make these distinctions I really do but you are arguing falliciously in using them. First, You are going to tell me Vitalie did not use a jab against Peter? watch the fight if that is proof for your pudding MMMittttttcheeeelllll. Vitali looks similar to Vlad in many respects, They have the same punch assortment fer chrissake! thats just a fact. And yeah they think differerntly and that is obvious. I grant you that as I did ten posts ago as well. Also what is obvious is that Vitali looked very athletic against Peter and in general. My argument is that it is not true that Vlad is necessarily the more athletic one. Vlad uses a jab more and his jab is better than his brother's, a lot better but it is still quite similar. How is that for a distinction. And yeah Vitalii hooks more of his shots but you are wrong to assume this means he is utilizing angles. Neither of these guys utilizes any footwork to speak of, they utilize reach and.... (are you reaaaady?) ATHLETIC ability! they hit harder and faster than anyone of the scrubs they face who are inevitably powder fisted and/or lacking.
The angles of his punches, meaning almost everything Wlad throws is straight up the middle. If trajectory gets the point across, then use that. But watch the kinds of punches he throws...the way they're thrown is much more varied than Wlad's. Even Wlad's left hook is pretty striaght...which is why he can throw it and his jab interchangibly at times.
It doesn't matter which Klitscho Haye fights. Either way I fully expect Haye to be knocked the fuck out. I haven't heard that Vitali was planning on vacating. He'll probably make Haye wait until he fighs JC Gomez.
