According to Dan Rafael a deal is in place for Caballero to move up and fight Gamboa, if he cannot secure a unification bout with Lopez or Vasquez. Gamboa´s handlers must have lost their mind. :notallthere: I thought the reasonable next step was to beat up Larios for the WBC belt.

Wow, that would be one fight I would root for Gamboa in.

I think Caballero gets smashed but I hope he wins.

It just MIGHT Work Out for Gamboa, but it's OVERLY AMBITIOUS Matchmaking on the Part of his Management, N REED's Opinion...

This is Really a NO WIN Situation for Gamboa (a LOWER Profile Guy MOVING UP to Challenge him) AND there's a LEGITIMATE Chance that Caballero is a Stylistic NIGHTMARE...

Gamboa's an interesting prospect. He seems to have some Shannon Briggs in him.

What reminds you of briggs? That can't be good.

He seems like a plan A kind of fighter. Comes out, shoots his load, if his opponent shows some give, he's probably finished early. If not, maybe in for some long nights.

It just reminds me a bit of Briggs. Not necessarily saying he's going to exposed by the next Darroll Wilson, though.

This is going to be a tough fight for Gamboa. Caballero is a huge featherweight.

Stupid fight without a belt on the line. Very stupid fight for both fighters.

    agreed.

Like the germ said, a fight with Larios would mke more sense. Larios is old and washed up but has a belt.

why is it a stupid fight for caballero? I'm sure his goal in boxing is to make money and an hbo fight has got to be a career high payday

Yep, not only that but Gamboa is fairly low risk, high reward.

Although people have started to backtrack recently, in the last year he's been referred to as the next big thing in boxing etc.

When the truth is, he's not very good, he's style/speed over substance, like a 130 pound Zab Judah.

Caballero is a big lanky retard, but he is more disciplined than Gamboa, and pretty fucking big too, I think he beats Gamboa.

It's a good fight for Caballero to take, especially if he can't get a fight with Izzy or Rafael.

    Because he'll lose.
Because if he wins, he doesn't have a belt.
Because there are far easier fights out there for him, i.e. the other 122 lb champs.

Jhonny Gonzalez is just about on the doorstep of a shot at both of Caballero's belts, I believe...as well as Vasquez's.

A bad match-up for Caballero imho. I think this would be shockingly one-sided and end with a quick KO win for Marquez.

I don't know. The last time I remember Marquez being in with somebody bigger and rangier than him, he had to pull a come from behind KO, over Tim Austin.

I dunno if he was better than Caballero. More skilled is an obvious one, however.
