    The Classic Matchup

A real tough one to call here as I admire and respect both fighters.

Marquez has never fought a man with the strength and stamina of Diaz, while Diaz has never fought a man with the ring generalship and experience of Marquez.

I don't see the concern by the Marquez camp for Houston, one judge voted for Katsidis here in the last fight, so there was no favoritism from the judges for Juan.

The fight will be the biggest here since Ali was fighting in the Astrodome, and I hope it lands here as we have a huge Latin community of rabid fight fans in the Bayou City.

Juan told me two months ago he was fighting Marquez next, and there is no doubt in his mind or his camp's mind that he will win, I know that much.

It will be the classic "Youth vs. Experience" which is the oldest matchup in boxing, and I know it will be a terrific, action-packed Latino machismo warfare kind of a brawl.

I am going to have to go with the younger, stronger, and hungrier fighter here in Diaz by decision here, probably winning with a few rounds to spare.

I believe you are the same clown that picked Oscar in that fight and laughed out loud when I said that Manny was going to outbox Oscar by jabbing and double jabbing and sliding off to his right.

yeah the biase thing is weird... Houston would have to have plenty of Marquez fans because of the latino community.

I hear you Karl. That makes sense.

I think this fight can be held in LA and get the same turnout they would in Houston.

Man this is going to be one hell of a fight. But I disagree with Karl on one point. Diaz did fight someone with Marquez's ring generalship--NATE CAMPBELL. The results is that he got schooled and embarrassed.

I honestly believe that Diaz's style is designed to cover up his poor defense and somewhat shaky chin. I think Marquez will counter the shit out of Diaz, but Diaz is relentless. Plus Campbell is a very strong fighter, and that bothered Diaz all night. I don't think this will be the case against Marquez. Diaz will keep coming in raining with punches and it's up to Marquez to find a way to stay on the outside to get his punches off. I don't like Marquez chances if the fight is short range.

I don't see Marquez stopping Diaz.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see Diaz edge out a split decision.

I still like Marquez in this one. JMM is a damn good counterpuncher and Juan can get a bit fat with his shots. I can see JMM catching him in between shots. The key will be whether JMM can put enough hurt on Juan to discourage him late. I think he can.

Juan's jab can bother JMM if he gets it off at the same time..."however" Juan is prone to talking shots clean and not rolling with them. I don't know how he'll handle the uppercut from JMM...he'll never see that shot coming.

This is what I said a few posts up, JMM is going to counterpunch the shit out of Diaz. But the problem is JMM power, he might not have enough to slow down the baby bull.

I was thinking more along the lines of Arguello-Mancini. Of course, Marquez is a poor man's Arguello and Juan is a poor man's Mancini, but the similarities are there.

    Marquez will win via stoppage.

Marquez has very respectable power. Enough power to knock Hole the fuck out in his first fight at 135, nobody else has done that to Hole.

Juan is going to think twice about steaming forward, and get discouraged quick, and getting smacked clean with some clean counters from Marquez. Marquez has solid power, and lands clean, often.

If the power doesn't slow down Diaz, the accuracy of the shots will. Also Marquez won't have to be wary of Juan's power like he was with Pacquiao.

how is jmm a poor man's arguello? and for that matter, how is diaz a poor man's mancini.

arguello probably beats jmm, but my guess is Diaz beats up Mancini.

and i wouldn't rule out a decision victory for jmm over arguello who at 135 threw many fewer punches than he did at 126 and 130.

Arguello had every bit the technical skill, and accuracy of Marquez, only he possesed the devestating power that Marquez lacks.

And Mancini was every bit as busy, and relentless as Diaz, only with MUCH more power, and physically stronger.

Diaz beat up Mancini? Diaz didnt even really beat up Katsidis, he simply outboxed him. Mancini was Katsidis times three.

    I just do not agree.

Marquez is a superior counter puncher to Arguello

    Marquez Loses

It will be a real pleasure seeing this fight in person, and seeing a legendary fighter like Marquez.

Too bad for his fans here in H-town that Marquez is going to grow old before their very eyes on the 28th and be dominated by the second half of the fight by a younger, stronger, better conditioned, and more determined Juan Diaz.

It will take all of Marquezs' considerable ring savvy to last out until the final bell, but he may retire in between rounds late in the fight due to all the punches he will be taking from a fighter that is not going to be denied in this installment of the "passing of the torch."
