ZURICH, Switzerland (December 17, 2008) -- Evander Holyfield is convinced that neither size nor age will matter in Saturday´s showdown with WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev. The 46-year-old challenger is determined to become the oldest heavyweight champion in the history of boxing when he takes on “The Russian Giantâ€￾ in front of a sellout crowd of 12,500 fans in Zurich, Switzerland. In order to put his name in the record books, though, he needs to defeat the biggest and tallest champion of all time.

I guess that means he'll finally be knocked out.

A more likely scenario is that he loses by decision and gains confidence for lasting the distance with the 'giant'.

    Or not show up.

    That would be a surprise.

I really hope he wins... so he can keep fighting until he dies in the ring, so he doesn't have to live broke during his last days...

Evander winning a round would be a real shocker.

Evander believing the crap that comes out of his mouth would be a shocker.

I think his reasoning for continuing to fight on is grounds for some sort of banning. With all the questions surrounding him about being too old and risking damage, he constantly says that as long as he keeps passing the tests, he'll keep fighting.

Basically, he WANTS to fight until he's brain damaged or dead.

The funny thing is that reasearch shows that brain damage can take years to take effect. Even more than ten years.

Holyfield will turn back the clock 20 years. We're gonna think it's 1988 again.:bears:

Holyfield has no other option but to continue fighting as a divorce and all of those child support payments have wiped him out financially.

What else can the guy do but fight?

Answer: Nothing, as he dosen't know anything else.

He was a car salesman for a while and had success there. He has options.
Anyway, he's another one who'll likely end up dead broke and brain damaged in 10 or so years. Man, those child support payments really are something!

He owned a Buick dealership in Atlanta for awhile, Hanzy.

I don't know if he owned it outright or just lent his name to it, though.

Did it have a cheesy commercials advertising "knockout" deals and so on?

Well as far as I'm concerned, he can lose his house, all his money and everything else he possesses. But one thing you can't take away from him is that he is, was and will forever be....EVANDER "THE REAL DEAL" HOLYFIELD. A Boxing Legend and former Cruiserweight and former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World!!! :kidcool: That overshadows all.

I'm not sure who would buy it, but Holyfield needs to sell his house and buy something affordable. The upkeep alone would probably support his children. There is no joy in watching Evander fight at this point, and hearing his thoughts was never worth the time invested.

Who in the world would buy a 50,000 square foot home these days?

And it sure as hell would suck having to move away from the street that's named after you.

holyfield is one deranged fella and he's not even on drugs (aside from maybe steroids in the 90s). it's always good to see him get his ass kicked, but i'm not sure if valuev is good enough to win in a spectacular fashion.

That's a bit of disrespect towards a man who gave us so much in a sport we love, joon. Even if you hate what he's doing, you can't discredit him for what he's done and the huge fights, thrills and performances he's given boxing fans over the past 20+ years. He was in WARS!! If not for him, this sport wouldn't have been even half as entertaining during the 90s.

I don't think many people are selling new cars at great profits right now.

You would be surprised at how strict and assholish judges are with child support. They feel that if you have made XXXXXX amount of dollars per year for the last 20 years you can continue to do so. If not you need to look for a second or third job. Getting child support reduced is nearly impossible. Remember Crash Holly or Kevin Carter.

I agree he is through and at this point will say anything to sell some tickets.

If the price is right, I'm sure he could sell it for the land. The house is too "unique" for anyone to buy as a house-I'm sure the architects had a good laugh when they were designing it! If I had his financial troubles, and no real way to make enough money to cover my bills, I would unload that house as fast as possible.

Well, if he can just STOP having kids for a while, surely most of his kids will be hitting the age of 18 soon. For each one that does, it's one less child support check he has to sign each month.

Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Julio Cesar Chavez, both Sugar Ray's (Robinson & Leonard)...all of them fought on longer than they should have, all of them had reporters and fans alike saying "they need to stop, they're tarnishing their legacy."

However, were any of their legacies truly "tarnished" by that? Can anybody truly say that the above fighters are any less great or legendary simply because they fought too far past their prime?

True, i'm sure there's a sanctioning body out there somewhere with a belt for him.

Perhaps he should fight for the NEIWBA (North Eastern Intercontinental World Boxing Alliance) title.

I'm not very familiar with Valuev, but I can't imagine Holyfield beating any decent fighter anymore. I guess it works to Holy's advantage that Valuev is a bigger target?
