Hopkins dominating Pavlik or Pacquiao dominating DLH? I know at first glance most people will think this is a mismatch, and that Pac beating Oscar into submission was much more impressive, especially considering his move up in weight, but what about the fact that Pavlik was an in his prime p4p fighter, undefeated Middleweight champion and knockout artist, or that Hopkins is in his forties and many people thought he was at the end of the road in his career? What about ODLH's age and inactivity, as well as him not being a champion of any weightclass?
This is in NO Way Meant to Diminish Bernard-Pavlik, but Pac KO DeLa is MORE Impressive... The SIZE Factor (How Faaaaaaaaaar Manny had to Move UP), the Fact that Virtually NOBODY Gave Manny a Chance, the Fact the DeLa HANDPICKED Manny (Thinking he was a GLORIFIED "Opponent")...By Comparison, Pavlik was Moving Up to Bernard's Preferred Weight, MORE Than Few Picked Bernard to Win & MOST Figured he'd @ Least "Trouble" Pavlik Early... REED Figured DeLa would B Able to FINISH Pac WHENEVER he Wanted to...REED Figured Manny COULDN'T Take even ONE Flush Left Hook from DeLa or even a JAB...So Quite Naturally, Manny CLOWNS DeLa Early, SCHOOLS him N the Middle Rounds & BATTERS him Late, En Route to a 1-Sided Stoppgage...Absolutely NOBODY Picked Pac by 1-Sided Stoppage... Pac Over DeLa is the Most UNBELIEVABLE Fight REED has Seen Since Tyson-Holyfield I... REED:hammert:
Hopkins-Pavlik. Kelly is in his prime, and considered a top 10 P4P fighter. Plus the fact that Hop is 43 years old. Oscar has been declined for years, is a part time fighter, and hasnt been amongst the P4P guys in like 6 years.
Really hard to say. Manny was a smaller man moving up two more weight classes after just having only one fight in his current one. Pacquiao was a bigger underdog then was Hopkins. Additionally he stopped his opponent. On the other hand Hopkins took out a guy that was much younger and although he was thoroughly outboxed, he didn't look like a walking corpse. Additionally Pavlik was undefeated. Push.
Both are very impressive wins for the reasons already posted here. Nobody gave Manny a chance, and he did the unthinkable and improbable. While the Hopkins fight wasn't a sure victory for Pavlik, but it was impressive the way Old Hops manhandled a prime top notch fighter in Pavlik, something Manny didn't had to, since he had a sitting duck as an opponent.
i don't know. is it tough to beat a guy with bronchitis and a shoulder injury, who's moved up virtually two weight classes? i don't think this is even a contest.
Hopkins-Pavlik by far. That was a fight that had some meaning for a change. Not just another terrible Golden Boy creation to pass millions of dolars from his fans to his bank account in exchange of the ilusion of a big fight.
I gotta go completely with REED on this one. I mean....cmon fellas. Plenty of people thought that Hopkins could beat Pavlik. The guy has never been knocked out...just made Calzaghe look like shit, and although his activity level has dropped with his age...he still has the chin, ability, speed and defense to give many worldclass fighters FITS! Manny moved up from lightweight...where he had to move up TO.... And dominated a guy who just fought Floyd to a close decision over a year ago. A MUCH bigger guy. No contest IMO. And that is in no way dismissing Hopkin's performance. But Pavlik is one dimensional as hell. His style didn't match up with Hopkins's at all.
I thought both fights were a bit gimmicky, because of the weight issues. Frankly, Darchinyan's absolute domination of Mijares was more impressive than either, IMO. But comparing the two, Hopkins' age and Manny's weight...both were damn impressive.
I like it when a fighter, defeats another fighter who has proven thier worth at a specific optimum weight, ..instead, the weights were distorted,..and 'names' replaced the REAL accomplishment,..as if this is 'p4p land' invented by fraud groupies, Hopkins didn't beat anybody significant at lightheavyweight, and Pacquioa didn't defeat anyone significant at welterweight... Good tricks..:shit:
EXACTLY! What Hopkins did was very impressive...but keen minds (like myself) knew it should happen. It was impressive because of teh age gap and the fact that Pavlik was undefeated at the time. But what Pacquaio did, was just short of a miracle. I can't think of ONE boxing expert not named Freddy Roach who predicted that Pacquaio would stop De La Hoya. Shit hardly anyone even predicted that Pacquaio would be able to make it competitive....let alone win.
neither is very impressive but i voted for Pac the Hopkins fight was just another case of everyone going "oh, looks like Hopkins isn't as old as we thought" the Pacquaio fight was a case of everony going "oh, looks like DLH is older than we thought"
