Zahir Raheem never did capitalize on his win over Morales. He just got blasted in South Africa and may never end up getting that one big payday.
Sean O'Grady after he beat Hilmer Kenty. He was stripped after his dad refused to fight Claude Noel whom Sean could have beaten, for a lot of money. O'Grady then got murdered by Andy Ganigan in less than two rounds for half of the money he would have made with Noel. Six Heads Lewis is another guy that comes to mind after he turned down Shane Mosley right after beating James Page.
Juan Manuel Marquez didn't really do to well from the Pacquiao draw. He was looking at a 2 fight deal for nearly two million or so for Pacquiao and then Morales.
Well he did fight Barrera and Pacquiao again. It wasn't looking good when he lost to Chris John for 30K.
Not nearly a big win in terms of opponent, but Sakio Bika winning the Contender in a FOTY caliber scrap...and doing SFA since, seems to fit.
jack mosley turned down lewis as an opponent. rumor is you have a dvd of ogrady's fight against danny lopez, stinger.
Mosley. Fought three nobodies then fought his stylistic nemesis. He could have been big shakes if he had fought Tito instead who was even more grossly overrated than him at that point.
It wasn't 'never', but Bernard Hopkins fighting ham and eggers for 3 years after beating Trinidad was ridiculous. After that win, there should've been a big money fight with Roy Jones, instead we got Daniels, Hakkar, Joppy and Allen? TFK
i remember when Rahman got jipped out of a huge Tyson payday cos of the rematch clause in his Lewis contract :atu: and the clause stipulated what he'd get paid for the rematch
Great choice. Lamon Brewster after Wlad is another one IMO. RJJ never capitalized on winning the heavyweight title, outside of making history it probably hurt his career.
What more was he supposed to do? He fought Holmes and Bruno in his next two fights. I'd guess both were decent money fights. Back then, Lewis was not thought of the same way he is now. I wouldn't be surprised if McCall made more fighting Bruno than he would have fighting Lewis, either.
Not really...the fact that he is fighting Mosley....means he capitalized from the Cotto victory.... Now if he was fighting a bum...and lose then thats different.......other than Cotto/Mosley who are the other BIG MONEY fight at 147 for Margarito....??? CLOTTEY..:nono:
Yeah and with that criteria, Paul Williams hasn't capitalized on beating Margarito because he went out and got beaten by Quintana
What he could have done was hang on to his title long enough to get the big payday against Tyson. Instead he mananged to nearly lose to 900 year old Larry Holmes and then managed to be the one big fight opponent that Frank Bruno didn't fall apart against. Lewis may not have been quite as highly regarded as he was when he retired, but it was still a huge win for McCall. It was a major upset at the time that it happened.
