I regularly watch K-1 fights. These fights are spectacular usually. One of the reasons imo is the duration of the fights. In 3 or 5 round fights the fighters go allout. K-1 has a very high KO percentage. I think boxing needs to do this because competition from MMA is growing. Fights will be much more spectacular and more people will be drawn into boxing. What do you think?

No and the thing is MMA is a different sport to me compared to boxing. Just because they both involve hitting each other doesn't mean they are the same. Otherwise Rugby would be the same as football seen as they both kick a ball.

I hate the whole MMA v Boxing.

and the whole Boxing is dying blah blah *YAWN*

They both have their great points, MMA provides exciting combat with great KOs but when they are rolling around on the floor like two gay homos looking for man juice i flick off.

If anything we should make them 15 rounds

The kind of conditioning the fighters need for 15 round fights is gruelling. They need 7 week training camps for one fight alone. If the fights are 5 or 6 rounds, they can have more fights in a year. Just like the K-1 fighters. They can fight more frequently. Many fighters cannot be motivated for 7 week training camps. Boxing fights will be much more spectacular.

I actually think the gloves should be reduced in size to create more tko's or kayos. I also think rounds 10,11 and 12 should be 5 minutes. Making a boxing match 6 rounds will only make for less knokouts and that imo is bad.

I agree. Boxers will go allout because the number of rounds are limited and they do not need to pace the action. The chances of KO's will increase dramatically. Will have great technical slugfests.

And Rainmaker, the fight in K-1 are usually exciting because pretty much none of them dones't have good defense, they are all about offense. Sure 3 rounds fight make them go at it from the get go but from my pov, when a fight goes to the card after 3 rounds, it is far from a satisfactory ending.

That is why we should have 5 or 6 round fights.

The fighters indeed have poor defense but that is because they go allout. The same will happen in boxing. The KO's will be flying around. You can't just lean back and let the other guy hit you when he is going allout.

i agree, it needs to go back to 15rnds if we want to see more ko's. if anything they should reduce the ring size which may result in more ko's.

Indeed we need less skill and other peripheral Bullshit and more KO's! Fuck the six rounds... lets make the ring the size of a goldfish bowl give them one free hand with a spike and on it and tie them together with the other hand like they did for the Greeks. Hell better yet give them on of those things that kills a cow with a shot to the head, we could make it a round.

Why not forgo the gloves totally? and give each man's second a black jack?

Boxing should be 15 rounds for a championship fight no less no more.

No. I can see dropping rounds to 11 or 10 per bout but 6? No way.

Wow, you are an idiot sly, K-1 is modified thai boxing rules ( minor difference like not more than 1 knee in the clinch ), there is no ground game permitted at all in their standard fights ( k-1 does some MMA fights but their main m.o. ain't based on it ). You don't even know what K-1 is and you think I'm confused about it :doh: Tam at least I give the benefit of the doubt, he probably knew this but wanted to look cool and contrarian and claimed K-1 was mixed martial arts because more than one martial arts is included ( kickboxing, taiekwondo, tai-boxing, karate ,... ), even thought no one in their right mind would consider it MMA. So Tam, do you consider that Shannon Briggs beat Tom Erikson in a MMA fight ????

Cutting it to 12 rounds was possibly the worst thing that ever happened to the sport.

Boxing has it's share of problems.

The amount of rounds in a fight is not one of them.

i agree with those who say, if anything, we should go back to 15 rounds. it's probably a response fueled by my preference for work-horse fighters - guys who never give up and don't steal rounds.

6 round fights would favor speed-demon round stealers. for example, Judah's record would be much different if fights were 6 rounds.

in my mind, part of boxing is sustaining the lead you've managed to achieve over the long haul.

think of fights like holy/qawi, sanchez/nelson and lewis/vitali. none of these would've been the dramatic and exciting spectacles they were had the action been stopped after 6 rounds.

how about a less popular one but an example that is no less illustrative: Diaz/Santa Cruz?
