Randy defended the true title and lost. Why is Mir the interim champ? Why are they going the boxing route???ld:
It has alot to do with when Randy was in litigation with the UFC and trying to get out of his contract. Dana White had Nog and Sylvia fight for the HW title. Mainly to shove it up Randy's ass that he wasn't needed. When Randy realized he wasn't getting out of the contract that his stupid ass agreed to, he then agreed to fight again. Now Dana is in a pickle. Nog is his champ, the TUF season is already set with Nog and Mir fighting as coaches. So he puts Randy to fight Lesnar. This is where it gets hairy, cuz I have heard a few different stories. One is that Randy said he would hold out again if he didn't have his belt. So Dana made Nog the interim champ because no one ever took Randy's belt in the ring, but it was his ass that stripped it. Any of it make sense:notallthere: BYG and TFK seem to know alot on this subject, maybe they can help out with the soap opera. Hanz too. My knowledge is alot of hear say and blogs from anything but reliable sources:cheer:
Because when Mir vs. Nogueira was Initially Signed, it was BILLED as an "Interim Title Fight" & the Latest Season of "T.U.F." Centered Around the Upcoming "Title Fight" btwn them... Couture & UFC HADN'T Reached an Agreement yet & Therefore, the Couture-Lesnar Fight WASN'T Signed... REED:hammert:
As soon as Couture came back, they should have just made it a number one contender's match. People were already intrigued with the matchup after the TUF season. So the winner of Lesnar/Mir 2 is the UFC heavyweight/interim heavyweight champion?::
Isn't the purpose of an interim champ to be when the real title holder can't fight? (whatever the reason being) In this case Randy did come back and fight. So where's the need for an interim now?
That is a great point, but from what I heard was the deal that Randy agreed to come back and get out of the courts with Dana White was only on the terms if he had his belt back. With the Lesnar/Mir fight it will be for the championship belt, the interim title will absolve and go away
Will they introduce both guys as champions? How can the champ and "interim" champ be facing each other? Interim is to mean temporary which goes out the window when there is a real champion.
The CRAZIEST Part is, BOTH Mir AND Lesnar have UFC "World Title" Belts...Brock was Awarded 1 After the Couture Fight & Mir Got his After the Nog Fight... Will BOTH Guys Wear their Belts to The Ring???.... REED::
Almost certainly. They'll be trying to hype it using the "who's the real champion" angle. Dana White probably has already written scripts for them and told them to point at their belts as much as possible and use the words 'real champion' in every third sentence.
1 of the Things that APPEALS to REED is that the UFC has 1 Belt Per Division...No "Jr.", "Super" or "Inter-Galactic" BULLSHIT...1 Belt Per Division ADDS Validity to the Term "World Champion"... Obviously, REED Doesn't Care All that Much about the "Interim" Thing, But Since they ARE Gonna Fight NEXT, REED Doesn't Sweat it...However, if they BOTH Bring BELTS To the Ring, that'll CHEAPEN the Fight N REED's Opinion... N Fact, NEITHER Man Should Bring the Belt to the Ring...Let Dana White or Whomever Else Hold the Belt Until the Fights Over.... REED:mj:
I think you guys are slightly off on one detail... I believe the UFC called it an interim title fight only because they weren't allowed to strip Couture of the title until his contract ran out? I could be wrong, but that was my understanding at the time. When Nog fought Sylvia, no one thought Randy would be back.
The fact that they call their champions the UFC champion of the World is so fucking stupid though. You're the champion of the UFC. Not the world. ::
yeah, but everybody does that shit, MLB calls their champion "World Champion". The ABC titles call their champions "The HW Champion of the WORLD!!", yet their are three other champions in that weight class recognized as World champions as well. Its all a bit cosmetic and fake, but just about every sports association in the world is guilty of it. I like the idea of Dana White holding both belts after weigh in and not letting either one get to wear it to the ring. They could even do a coin toss after weigh in to see who gets to walk down the aisle last.
Steve is right. It's nothing to be worried about though, there will be no more interim titles after Mir and Lesnar fight. All will be back to normal. I would have issues with this crap ONLY if Mir and Lesnar weren't fighting next, but they are so who cares.
