This is a good reason to have interim titles.

Interim titles should be worded as eliminators, with 12 round fights of course.

I would be surprised if Witter won this fight. Alexander is very solid

If Alexander does take this fight, then credit to him.....Witter is a risky opponent for anyone.....quick, awkward and has some pop too....might not be as sharp as he was, but a big gamble nonetheless

still, i don't think this fight is done yet.....purse bids could take this fight to the UK and makes this an even bigger risk

Bradley's fighting a unification match in April against Kendall Holt. This is the WBC's way of saying "we won't strip the winner... yet."

Of course, the Branch Ringians cult will whine that Ricky Hatton is the true champ (and for all intent and purposes he is the lineal champ, though I don't need their magazine to tell me that). But what those followers won't recognize is, without some bullshit belt on the line (like "interim title"), a fight like this doesn't take place, at least in today's market.

and Bradley before that. Haymaker must still be in 2007.

    No sarcasm.
Interim titles make sense to keep things moving for the contenders. If the champ can't fight due to injury or has an excusable reason for not fighting a mandatory (injury, unification, special circumstances), then the mandatory gets his shot at a title, gets to make better money, and maintains his position in line at a shot at the full title. And if the champ gets stripped or later decides to vacate, then there is no fuck around trying to fill a vacant belt, you just change the status of the interim champ.

If I were you, I'd ignore anything Haymaker says. He thinks the current version of Toney is better than Margarito, and a top 5 pound for pounder

If one of the major titles becomes vacant the two other titlists should have automatic first call on the title. The other champ with the most defenses should have first dibs, but should have to fight the other champ for the belt. If either then refuses then the other fights for the title against the next highest contender in the belts rankings.

Or better still they could all do the honourable thing and board up their offices and fuck off.

Although it is questionable what Witter has done to deserve another title shot.
