Duran faces an opponent whose toughness he can't match. If Duran elected to box, he could win the decision, but Margarito would get him into a brawl and beat him by a close decision

Even in a brawl Duran beats Marg. Duran was much better defensively on the inside than Phony, and had much quicker hands. Duran was also physically stronger than Cotto, so Phony wouldnt push him back as easily, and with Duran's great stamina, he isnt wearing down like Cotto did either.

This overrating of Margarita must stop. He beats Miguel Cotto, now suddenly theres threads where you say he beats Duran, and gives Leonard a tough fight. Gimme a fuckin break!

You also have to understand that the icons of yesterday are not as unbeatable as memories of them are. Duran had his share of weak performances too. As decades go by, fighters are seen very differently than they are in their primes.

Margarito at 147 lbs was bigger than Duran. Also Duran's game was to push his ooponents back and bullies them but against Margarito it wouldn't work for him. Duran had good stamina but it was not endless either, he could be worn out.

Btw I don't think anybody said in that other thread that Margarito would actually give Leonard a tough fight. A fight he would give though

Barkley was bigger than Duran also, didnt stop Duran from countering him effectively. And that was at 160. At 147 Duran was much better, and Margarito isnt as big nor as powerful as Barkley. You're acting as if Duran was just a come forward guy like Chavez. Duran is one of the best counterpunchers in history, and he'd have a counter punching field day with Marg.

Marg goes the distance, but if its a 15 rounder... Duran wins about 11 of the 15 rounds. That is, if we're talking about the Duran that beat Palimino and Leonard.

Duran went punch for punch with HAGLER for 15 rounds...they don't come any tougher than HAGLER>..:nono:

Duran vs. Margarito.....it will be Margarito the one getting frustrated by the fact that after 6-7 rounds..Duran is still in his face punching with him...it will be Duran giving out the smirks and coming forward down the stretch....

Hagler went easy with Duran and did what he had to to win. Margarito would bring it on and Duran's stomach would start to cramp

Not to mention that Duran was 37 years old when he fought Barkley.

    Duran would kill Antonio Margarito

The Palomino fight was 10 rounds...if this is 15, Margarito gets stopped.

Palomino was WAY more skilled than marg.

I wouldn't say he had way more skill since Margarito is underrated at that department. Also Margarito is clearly the bigger and tougher guy compared to Palomino

Bigger yes. Tougher? I dont think so. Palimino had an iron chin.

I'm sorry for insulting the great Duran by saying Sloth could take 4 rounds from him. Duran would've beat the shit outta this slow palooka and smiled while doing so.

And no, Phony isnt as good as Palimino.

  21. Ugotabe Kidding

Ridiculous. Duran did not have the speed in his counters that Mosley had nor the power. Margarito ran into those counters too many times but Hands of Hump would have fought him close and lost

Duran may not have been as fast as Mosley, but his timing was better than Shane's, and his hands were very quick in his own right. Duran was also more active than Shane, with better stamina, and would be punishing Phony's body just as often. Also, Phony wouldnt lay a glove on Duran to the head. Duran's headmovement and defense were too good to be hitting by Phony's slow and looping punches. This is a fuckin mismatch after last night. ANYBODY who picks Margarito over the Palimino, and Leonard version of Duran after last night has to be a SERIOUSLY blind Duran hater(which you are). Duran would have eaten Phony for fuckin breakfast!

Ok, so we take the highlight film version of Duran from his absolute best fights and match him against Margarito we saw last night? MUCH lesser fighters with weaker chins went full rounds against Duran too but in your way of judging MMs Duran has taken them all out quickly
