Margarito's Hands From Cotto Fight...Loaded Wraps?

Who knows? No one catched that at that time. That said, IMO Shane's victory proves my theory that Cotto lost to Margarito because he did not attacked the body and basically fought Tony's fight.

 

I don't know...i think MOsley faster hands/feet movement is what won him the fight tonight...Cotto is not as fluid as Mosley inside. Cotto likes to set his feet and throw his punches with out much movement...

Plus Mosley did a whole lot of clinch..SMART FUCKING CLINCHING...Fucking Cotto didn't do much clinch to much MACHO shit...it's strategy fucker...and like HBO said...Mosley wasn't giving MARGARITO ROOM TO LAUNCH/gain momentum for his punches....

Those uppercut from Margarito were not so deadly if he doesn't have about 5 feet to launch 'em...

Agreed! Cotto fought the wrong fight but this will start some controversy. Either way the blue print to beat Margarito has been set.

 

What was being alleged? (I was in a crowded room when they were talking about it.)

I thought I heard them say there was a substance that was hardening in Margarito's hand wraps...but I had to have heard that wrong otherwise you guys would have been all over that here on the board.

 

Styles make fights. Cotto can never do what Shane did tonight. And Cotto is also lucky that Shane wasnt younger when they fought, or else his Uncle woulda had to save his ass by round 7.

Great points Illum. I would add that Margarito can't take it to the body. I believe that if Cotto fought like he normally did and just tore in he would have had more success. I actually think the body shots are a real discovered weakness, plus the beating he took tonight, things might be shaken up for Margarito in the near future.

At any rate Cotto should be able to stop him... I would bet on it...easily by attacking the body properly and consistantly.

Cotto will beat him in a rematch..but it won't mean as much now. People would say Mosley soften him up.....but they won't say that Cotto soften Margarito up for MOsley...


I said a few weeks ago that everyone was TALKING ABOUT how MIGUEL COTTO would NEVER be teh same after teh MArgarito beating...but lets not forget taht COTTO WAS LANDING SOME BRUTAL HEAD SHOTS on Margarito.....WILL he be the same?? TONIGHT he look out of it after round 3-4....

In round before round 8-9 Marg said to his corner "fuck it now i'm going to fight/go for the kill" But Mosley was toooo much for him and had him backing away by the end of that round.....

 

I agree with Mosley being too fast. It was like watching Oscar vs Pac again. Speed kills and Mosley smothered Marg punches as well as tying him up. I don't think I have ever been so impressed by Shane as I was with tonights performance and a performance it was.

Illegal substance removed from Margarito’s gloves



LOS ANGELES – A controversy erupted about a half-hour prior to Antonio Margarito’s defense of his WBA welterweight title against Shane Mosley on Saturday, before 20,820 at the Staples Center.
Dean Lohuis, the interim co-executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, said an illegal substance was found in Margarito’s hand wraps. A boxer’s hands are wrapped with tape and gauze to protect them before he puts on his gloves.
“It was a plaster-like substance,†said Golden Boy Promotions attorney Stephen Espinoza. “It was bagged up by the commission and taken as evidence.â€
Nazim Richardson, Mosley’s trainer, complained that Margarito’s wraps looked too large with a lump. An inspector for the commission agreed and ordered the wraps to be cut off and then rewrapped.

That is when the illegal substance was discovered. HBO analyst Larry Merchant, who was in the dressing room area doing interviews, said he had been told it was some kind of a wet substance.
Eric Gomez, the matchmaker for Mosley’s Golden Boy Promotions, said that it was the same material used to make plaster of paris.
Top Rank president Todd duBoef, who promotes Margarito, said he was told the wrap was simply gauze that was balled up by the knuckles. DuBoef said that when Richardson objected, Margarito’s camp was happy to comply and rewrap.
Margarito’s hands were wrapped by his longtime trainer, Javier Capetillo.

if the wraps were intentionally illegal last night, they have likely been illegal for fights before this. cotto was the bigger challenge.

Look at the state of cotto's face, and marge isn't even a monster puncher, nor did he land THAT many clean shots, and nor does Cotto have a particularly fragile face.

Well the cheating sloth got what he deserved tonight, and his career is essentially over.

I think Margarito's handwrap controversy is worst than Trinidad's because on the Trinidad case it was a matter of how much gauze and tape was added while on Margarito's case it was an illegal plaster-like substance. Tony's name should be now MARGACHEATO.

Only on fightbeat, can a guy with an unproven accusation of illegal wraps, be considered the cheater against a long time known drug cheat.

 

Obviously, we have to wait for the analysis of the commission to draw any conclusion but I think these are some pretty troubling accusations that seems to be based on very solid ground. As I type, I give Margarito the benefit of doubt, probably because I like the guy, but if it turns out to be true Plasterito will be his new nickname as far as I'm concerned. I'm curious to know your take on that controversy tam.
