I've always thought Mosley would have done better without his dad, who I never thought was that great of a trainer. He's looked better with Goosen (in the Vargas rematch), John David Jackson, and now Nazim who helped him put on IMO, the best performance of his career. He came in with an excellent gameplan (which helps with your focus), and just looked technically better than ever. Does his career look different without Jack Mosley or not?
Nazim Richardson stated that he had nothing else to teach Mosley, since Jack taught him well, he just worked on strategy and that's it. Jack was never a good strategist, but a very good developer for Shane. Took him very far.

Shane has been his own worse enemy in executing strategy. I think ideally jack would be great as part of a team but this guy would have had shane being much better at this stage in his career
I tune my own dad out when he's talking so there may have been a lot that Shane never picked up on. Jack Mosley is a good trainer, but Shane is a great fighter. It was always like that.
dsimon writes: Yes the father son dynamic has impact no doubt. The problem with Jack that I see is the same thing I see with Judah and his dad... its all emotion and very little substance or change. Mosley was always a one dimensional guy like Zab but he was not last night and I think if somoene took Judah out to the parking lot like you would like to take Neil:: And basically shook him up and forced him to change we might be having this e-conversation about Zab as well. I think with these two guys the family aspect works against... as opposed to Calighe for example.
Jack is a great trainer in the gym. His advice between rounds wasn't always great but he obviously taught Shane good in the gym. Plus Shane has amazing discipline and dedication.
dsimon writes: I have noticed over the years that what you are saying is true... I mean Shane is a guy who comes across as delightful, brave, able but not particularly astute. Yet Naseem did something amazing which shows that shane is coachable. the only thing that comes close is when Evander listened to his corner when fighting Tyson... same sort of thing imo... You know Evander wanted, like Shane to go to war.... but he listened and the rest is history A good coach can work on the level of the fighter and coach em no matter how smart or slow one may be.
Shane and Jack peeked after the first De La Hoya fight, like someone above me said.It came to a point when Shane needed strategist and Jack was not that guy.
I honestly don't think the trainer had all that much to do with it, at all. Shane just looks great when a guy comes forward at him, always has. It's taylor made for his style. Margarito was basically the June 2000 Staples Centre Oscar in slow motion last night.
