Ok, so Pac-Man is the goods, we all know that. He has speed, he has great power, good feet, good chin, he has the will and the conditioning, he has shown good improvement in his overall technique

Obviously we know about JCC, especially as a young man at 130... fantastic chin, heavy-handed and hurtful, accurate puncher, one of the best pressure fighters of his or any other time... underappreciated defensive skills and footwork, and as a young man never was cut, always seemed to emerge unmarked from his fights

I would assume Chavez is the prohibitive favorite, but how does Manny do against the great Mexican champ?

Chavez walk through Pacquiao's best stuff and brutalize him down the stretch....like always Chavez will have difficulties w/ Pacquiao speed, but as the round go by Chavez pressure/infighting will be to much for Pacquiao do deal with...Pacquiao won't have the space needed for his power shots.

    Chavez by KO 9-11..

I always thought the key to this matchup is Pac's poor ability in fighting backward. Even with his speed and power you know he'd have to backpedal against Chavez.

Good point. Chavez would definitely force Manny to back up at times. I pick Chavez by 8th round TKO. What a war it would have been.

Agreed it would be a great fight. I don't think Pacquiao would be taken out as early as the 8th round though.

Think of the pace they would fight at though...It may even go a couple rounds earlier.

Both guys are capable of a heavy pace. Chavez may have a better chin but Pac has not looked vulnerable at since moving up. Julio was a strong accurate puncher but not a KO artist.

Chavez could stop him, but it would take one of the typical prolonged beatings he used to administer. I favor Chavez but Pac isn't a pushover for anybody.

Chavez TKO11 for all the reasons already stated plus another

Chavez's favorite punch was the straight right and it is the best punch against a southpaw and Pac-Man is suceptible to that punch... I think JCC lands it all night

Pac is awesome though, he makes Chavez earn it

I think Chavez breaks him down and gets him late as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Pacquiao is slightly ahead on the cards when it happens but Julio is just too strong and I don't think anybody could have stopped him.

agreed, there are a handful that would have beaten him, but in his prime I can't see anybody knocking him out

this is a tough match-up for Chavez if we are considering this resurgent Pacquiao who uses his feet.

Whitaker beat Chavez by using his awkward southpaw angles and footwork, something Pacquiao does well also. Manny could get stopped if he gets too brave, but I could also just as easily see him winning.

I'll say Chavez SD, but i wouldn't be surprised either way.

    How do you figure?

Whitaker and Pacquiao were both fast and left handed, that is where the similarities end

Pac-Man gets hit, plenty, especially against good fighters and especially by right hands

Whitaker was as hard to hit clean as anyone who ever fought

That's what I was thinking. All this "New Manny that boxed, showed angles, etc let's just remember it was against a really shot part-time fighter. Young Chavez is anything but that. He would make it rough and force the fight. Whitaker was able to make Chavez miss and make him pay for it with his counterpunching. Manny would have to take bombs to land his, that's the main difference.

Yeah and the fact that he fought Whitaker like 3 weight classes above what we are actually talking about...so its pretty insignificant, and the fact Chavez fought differently than he did at 147 and 130...so pretty bad point brought by Jaws actually, on all parts.

Chavez TKO 11, even with Chavez losing 3 of the first 4, but Chavez getting to his body enough to break him down in the later rounds, Pacquio gets KD'd but gets up and takes a beating but stays on his feet...
    stoppage...

Its not Chavez love as much as it is just good logic. Was he not a great fighter? If you look at the prime years of his career, say 1984-1990 or so, it doesn't get a whole lot better than that. Not too many fighters are that dominant for that much of a stretch over a consistently excellent level of competetion. The bitter crybaby and quitter he became later on shouldn't reflect badly on what a remarkable pressure machine he was in his prime. He was an incredible fighter

The Pacquiao/Hatton fight will put this in the proper perspective. Manny will struggle with Hatton regardless if he wins or not.
