Knocking out Castillo in four is also more impressive than beating Roy over 12, if we want to talk about beating up washed-up fighters, but I guess that is a result of one guy knowing how to make a fist while throwing a punch.

He never lost, solid wins over Hopkins, Kessler, Lacy, other 168lbers.

Ottke avoided him like he was the AIDS, and he completely wiped out the division he was in and won alot of fights he was not supposed to.

He's got very solid skills, very fast hands and feet for his size, and the activity to give anyone problems

 

Even when you consider the KOs, I don't think it's close. Lennox was a serious fighter who would fight anyone for 15 years or so. Calzaghe was really only a serious player on the world scene for four years.

Calzaghe is at this point all time a greater fighter than Hatton....but hatton will be more loved by the fans..and at the end of the day...HE HAD MORE BALLS/GUTS than bitch ass CALZAGHE....

Hatton CHALLENGE the UNDISPUTED P4P KING of his generation(Mayweather)....while Calzaghe stayed clear of Roy Jones for YEARS.....

 

Hatton isn't on the poll. He's way out ahead of Lennox Lewis, Ken Buchanen and Other. He has around 80% of the vote.

 

He'd probably rank about 10 places higher in my estimation historically if he went 2 out of 3 with Chad Dawson, Glen Johnson & Mikel Kessler. Retiring undefeated is meaningless with his resume.

No somebody with some knowledge about boxing. Ottke retired as the FIRST EVER unified supermiddleweight champion when he beat Mitchell. He had more title defenses than Calzaghe when he retired, and had beaten the likes of Glen Johnson, Mads Larsen, Anthony Mundine, Byron Mitchell, and so on.

At that point Calzaghe had not fought Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins or Jones. His best wins were Eubank, Reid, Veit and Woodhall. So yes when Ottke retired he had accomplished more than Calzaghe.

And they both ducked each other convienently, cause Ottke much like Calzaghe was a crafty enough fighter to eke out a robbery in his hometown. Both were happy to make a lot of money at home. Calzaghe would have never made a move, if Lacy and Kessler didn´t have the balls to go to his backyard.

Calzaghe was involved in one questionable decision, Ottke received more gifts than the Red Cross come christmas time.

I don't have enough digits to count the number of "victories" Ottke has that should be...well overturned. Really, there is absolutely no question who is a better fighter/had a better career

No way. First, I said it was more impressive... Hatton stopped his man, Calzaghe won an extremely boring, close decision over Hopkins.

Kessler was simply not as big of a win as Tszyu. Lets be serious here.

 

Did Roy ever fought Dariusz Michalczewski when he was the only significant opponent he had at 175 lbs? Dariusz defended his WBO title 23 times and developed a hoarse throat by calling out Roy after each title defense. Every boxing fan (and Dariusz) wanted to see that fight happen. Roy never wanted it. Same with a Joe Calzaghe fight. Jones was the Floyd Mayweather of his division: avoiding the real threats. Only fought at heavyweight to challenge Ruiz, but wanted no part of Lennox Lewis.

the dude was physically falling apart and beating that inflated version of mitchell was only impressive in a sense that everyone picked sharmba to win that fight.

tszyu was a great fighter, but i wasn't surprised at all when hatton dethroned him.

 

That's fine, but most were surprised. Tszyu was considered a huge win at the time, much bigger than beating Kessler.

yes, it was huge and made hatton a bigger star. but really, which was a more impressive win? calzaghe, a guy who's in his mid 30s taking on a young champion who's actually active and highly touted.

hatton humped and fouled his way to tire out an aging veteran. calzaghe outwilled, outboxed, and outfought the younger and physically superior fighter and looked fantastic in doing so.

 

well, tszyu is one of my favorite fighters, but i just dont think that he's greater than calzaghe. is that not debatable?
