I was huge Evander Holyfield fan. From the '84 Olympics when he got shafted out of a gold medal all the way through his career. His blowhard Christianity talk didn't bother me though I'm not a Christian. The talk about him having 57 kids form 53 different women didn't bother me as much as it showed me he was a hypocrite. BUT when he came on Benny Hinn (fake hfaith healer) saying Benny Hinn had healed his heart, I had to take a step back. Of course I was with him when he fought Tyson and made some money with that win. And I cheered for him against Lewis in those two fights in '99 but I just could never get over him going on that fake ass con-man's show bilking hopeless people out of money to ever consider myself a Holyfield fan then. I had become a semi- David Tua fan in the late 90's/early 00's.

More recently, but to a less degree I used to like Sam Peter. Not even in my top three in fighters I like but the first heavyweight I liked since Tua. He seemed to be declining instead of improving(along with his weight and conditioning) in fights like the McCline fight. I was on vacation and didn't even see the Vitali loss but pretty much just said the hell with this guy after that fight. I haven't decided wheter i'll root for him in future fights.

Strange that both of these examples involved the heavyweight division when I really am more of a fan of the 118-147 weight classes.

I used to be a De La Hoya fan until he tried to run out of the ring against Tito and stunk up the joint. I was enjoying the boxing lesson he was giving. That even made up for the CRAP undercard up until then. I enjoyed it when he was robbed and then enjoyed Shane beating him in his next fight and never rooted for him in a fight again.

I was a huge Tua fan until he became a fatass.

And I was huge Frietas fan until he became a whiney, pussy bitch.

And Ive been a huge Judah fan for years, but recently he's choked so much, and blown so much of his talent, that I'm at the point where I no longer care if he wins or loses.

I used to like like Hatton and Wlad but once they became unabashed clutch-humpers I have been actively rooting against them.

Hatton after he tried to model himself on Ruiz.

In recent years his fights have been frustrating hum fests, a pretty far cry from the fast, energetic, Duran inspired fighter he used to be.

That, and the working class hero routine has worn thin.

I can't pinpoint the exact time I stopped liking Roy Jones, but his constant ego trip, his reluctance to fight Dariusz (who was the ONLY sole threat he had at that no-talent, no-names division) and his constant safety-first style, his claim that he could become a HW champ, BUT wanting no part of the ONLY TRUE HW champ, Lennox Lewis. His 'championship' fight with Ruiz was a complete joke as Fat ass James Toney demostrated. In fact, even though I knew Ruiz was there to be taken, I was still crossing my fingers that he would land a punch and KO Jones silly. It didn't happened then, but Tarver gave me the pleasure: that KO had so much repeat value. On the other hand Roy did gave me some happy moments when he made Toney look like a total idiot and the beating he gave Pazienza was priceless.

I'm not sure exactly when, but I stopped liking Holyfield. Maybe I just got tired of him and his bullshit. I can't stand athletes who yap nonstop about Jesus while they've got 423 illegitimate kids or a rap sheet a day long or hang out with murderers.

I used to be a big Toney fan, but his repeated failed steroid tests and gluttony turned me away. It also didn't help that I went to San Jose to watch his fight with Batchelder (when both guys juiced), and it made Leonard-Duran 3 look like Holyfield-Dokes.

I stopped liking De La Hoya when he stopped fighting full-time and started promoting crappy PPV cards.

    I agree.

The "working class hero" routine, well when they kept talking about it on 24/7, I figured it was just the show and Hatton just answering questions rather than Hatton always talking about it.

But he has beaten that fat suit joke to the ground.

I stopped liking ODH after he became a major promoter.

I stopped liking Wlad after he became a grappling piece of puss.

Pending evidence to suggest that he's innocent, I no longer like Margarito for loading his gloves.

The same goes for Tito. I used to think he was a gifted artist with massively heavy hands. Now I realize he was just loading his gloves with tons of tape.

I still like him, but since he fought Johnson, I don't like Dawson as much as I did following his win over Adamek. His next fight will determine I think whether or not I like him.

I did go off Mosley quite a bit, out of sheer frustration at his in ring stupidity. He's a gifted counter puncher off the back foot yet is too stupid to realize it. Also my love for Naz definitely waned after puberty hit and I realized he was a total wang. Although I still think he was a better fighter than most will acknowledge.

But the only fighters I every really hate are Floyd and Tarver, for obvious reasons, and I always felt that way.

I stopped liking PBF after he moved up from light-weight and stopped fighting the best.

At 130 and 135 he fought the best the divisions had to offer with the exception of Stevie Johnston I guess.

But he fought Chavez, Castillo, Corrales and both Hernandez's. He really left no doubt as to his supremacy in those divisions.

Then he moves up to 140, and who does he fight in what was touted as a super-fight? Gatti? Mitchell and Corley weren't bad opponents, and neither was N'dou. But then he moves to 147 and who does he fight? Baldomir? He looked good against a shot Gatti but he looked like shit against Baldomir.

Then he fights Bruseles? Okay. So he's allowed a bum or two. Mitchell? Judah?

And then he stinks it out against ODH who's jab was oddly absent even though he was dominating the fight when he used it.

And then he fights Hatton. Okay. Decent opponent. But not at 147. And not when there's at least 6 guys at 147 who were better than him.

He wanted his cake and to eat it too. He wanted to compete at 147 and for the most part face 140 pounders. This, when the 147 pound division was chock full of deserving opponents.

Clearly a bull-shit move by PBF.

Mosley used to be one of my very favourite fighters, and I went off him too.

He's had some disappointing performances, and until he slapped the shit out of Marge, he never seemed quite the same fighter after losing to Forrest.

in other words when he started to show his true colors and decided to no longer follow the advice of his promoter as to how to behave.

if i were as big a jerk as he is, i'd certainly be a fake when it came to the media if it meant earning more money for doing very dangerous work.

PBF's "real" approach to public relations just didn't work out too well for him seeing as how he's an obvious azzhole.

Jose Luis Castillo after the shameful weight in incidents, where he and his team tried to cheat Corrales and the whole boxing community, what a fucking piece of shit. I don't know how anyone can support this asshole. Also, reading on the newspaper (Mexico) about the way he likes to get drunk, be a snobby asshole to people who say hi and the time he went to his brother in law's house, to pick up a fight because some old dispute and when he didn't come out he burned his car. Police picked him up but he paid some money and was let go. Fucking piece of shit, fuck him and whoever supports him. Thank you very much.

Also, Margarito anyone? His career might be over now that he got KO'ed the fuck out of the spotlight after years of cheating the world by putting plaster on his handwraps and then bitching to maxboxing how he's this fearless monster nobody wants to fight and creating this false reputation for years.

Correct. He needed to be as smart as DeLaHoya and Foreman whose fake smile and 'look-at-me-I-am-such-a-good-role-model' act made them millionaires without much effort. Sure, Fraud did eventually made millions, but he could had been more successful than he was and less despised.

I thought Chavez was the embodiment of toughness, the purest fighting specialist there was. In his prime, he was just beautiful to watch, he just overcame everyone, he wore them out, slowly battering the strength out of them... He always seemed like a quiet, subdued kind of guy, prideful but humble... even when he bitched after the Whitaker fight, I dismissed it as a great fighter who wasnt used to losing verbalizing his frustrations and it didn't bother me much (though the verdict sure did and still does to this day, even though i was rooting for JCC-- as much as that may surprise people who know me around here)

Then came the Frankie Randall fight and his totally classless display after it... it was a sign of things to come, unfortunately... Chavez permanantley damaged his legacy and his general popularity from that fight onward in his career... I still think he was one of the great ones in his day, but I dont have too much respect for him as a person

Although I am objective about his talent and think he is a master boxer, Floyd Mayweather makes my stomach turn as a human being... heavenly abilities wasted on a arrogant, mouthy, woman-punching thug

yeah there's clearly something transcendent, escapist, religious about it - big, ugly, beer-guzzling, blue-collar guys, holding each other and serenading another man with a christmas song.

on saturday i was getting my hair cut in the local barber's (a rough working-class area). the big tattooed guy shaving my head got on to talking about boxing, and i said i followed the sport too, and we ended up talking abuot hatton, and i said that hatton has cheated too much in his career, and that joe cortez wasn't particularly biased in the mayweather fight. the barber tensed up, like i'd spat in his girlfriend's face; his terse responses thereafter showed how angry he was. there's clear love for ricky, from thousands upon thousands of sweaty men.

This is what i don't get.

People here keep repeating this line like a drunken parrot. Calzaghe was ALSO at the end of his 45 fight career. He may not have been as old as those two but he was a good five years past his prime. If you don't like him or his style fine but people talk of these two fights like Calzaghe was 23 years old fighting old men?
