Antonio Margarito loses California boxing license

The California State Athletic Commission has revoked Antonio Margarito's boxing license, putting the boxer on suspension for at least one year.

Margarito's trainer Javier Capetillo has license revoked

Antonio Margarito's trainer Javier Capetillo just had his trainer's license revoked by the California State Athletic Commission board members. Commissioners who are meeting in Van Nuys expressed doubts about Capetillo's story that he "accidentally" implanted hard inserts into the hand wraps of his fighter on Jan. 24 before Margarito's title loss to Shane Mosley.

This is even worse then athletes who test positive for steroids and claim they "didn't knowingly take any illegal substance"

 

I'm not sure there's much of a reason for a Cotto-Margarito rematch after this hearing, anyways...as I'm not sure Cotto has anything to "avenge" at this point.

It would've been nice for Arum, though, as he could keep it in house (unlike Mosley or Berto), and made more money than he could with Clottey.

Agreed. At this point it's basically a lose-lose for Cotto.

We'll probably never know for sure whether Margarito had illegal handwraps in the Cotto fight but the dark cloud around him at this point almost makes that fight to many people a no-contest. (even though it's not an official result)

At this point Cotto can go on and nobody is going to scream at him to pursue a rematch with Margarito.

Especially when that fight might have to take place in Azerbijan.
