Alfredo Angulo vs Cosme Rivera - Really, who are these guys? Fight looked boring, didn't watch. Instead watched the Allstar Dunk Contest. Although off the subject the dunk contest wasn't very good then again when is it ever these days? Martinez vs Cintron - Sloppy fight mixed with bad styles equaled an ugly fight. It also helps that Cintron sucks and will never ever look like a fluid natural fighter. He looks like he has to think before every move he makes including throwing his lazy arm punches. I told you guys his power is overrated and it's mainly because he throws wrong. He seems to have heavy hands so if he learns to throw correctly he'd probably be a devastating puncher and possibly nearly on the level that everyone seems to think he's on. Anyway the fight sucked. Cintron's an idiot and crybaby. He's not very tough as he started running in the last round because he couldn't take the shots bouncing off his head anymore. He also lacks mental toughness as Martinez' style got in his head and threw him off his plan and confidence the whole fight. Martinez ain't much better but at least he looked like he knew what he was doing, and he did it but unfortunately got robbed. The refs - The Cintron ref was totally incompetant and let others sway his decision and was totally wrong for deducting that last point. I wish they would get replay's to decide cuts too, because a ref sees a cut and 9/10 times assumes it was caused by a headbutt. Also the last 2 refs seemed to only find fault with Martinez and Funeka and seemed to be favoring. Nate Campbell vs Ali Funeka - I knew when Nate failed to stop the kid in rd 2 that he was in trouble and I knew the tide would turn at the end of rd 3 when Nate started losing aggression. The Funeka kid is very good, and skilled and kind of reminded me of Hopkins in certain ways. A good fight. Did Campbell ever learn how to punch with his left hand? I remember way back when he first fought Casamayor he only used his right and still today it appears to be much of the same. I score this card a 7/10 based on the two fights I did watch. What are you guys' comments.
Only thing you missed was the "Racist HBO moment". :: I wasn't home and forgot to tape it so I missed Angulo/Rivera to. Highlights seemed enough I probably won't go back to it. I thought the ref did fine until he took the point away from Martinez in the last round. You don't deduct a point for a straight overhand right and the other guy shows you the back of his head as he's standing right in front of you. The fight sucked either way. I enjoyed the Campbell/Funeka fight. Funeka reminds me of a poor mans Diego Corrales. A little more fluid then Diego but a little less of everything else. I thought Lederman was off. He wasn't giving Nate credit for some rounds he was blistering Funeka with body shots.
I'd rather watch Judah-Witter 5 times in a row than watch anything concerning the NBA anymore. The league has gone to the shitter, and the dunk contest hasnt been entertaining since the year Carter won it 9 years ago. As for the fights. Angulo beat the fuck outta Riveria, and I like El Perro, but once he fights an elite guy he's gonna lose. He's painfully slow, easy to hit, and cuts easily. If Mayorga had fought him tonight, its possible we could have seen Mayo winnning. But guess we'll never know. I'm still on the Angulo bandwagon though. Not that I think he's anything special, but he's fun to watch. As for Martinez-Cintron, it was a boring, sloppy fight at times, but theres no way in HELL Cintron managed a draw... even with the point deduction. Martinez partially has himself to blame though. If he had set his feet, and thrown more straight lefts instead of fucking around and posing, I think he woulda stopped Cintron. Kermit the frog simply could not handle Martinez's handspeed when Sergio opened up. It was a terrible decision. And as for Campbell-Funeka, Nate pulled it out in the end, but for the most fight looked like shit. Partially because of the weight problems, and IMO partially because he's starting to show his age. I HIGHLY doubt he'll ever regain the form he had in the Diaz fight ever again. At 140, I see Victor Ortiz and Tim Bradley beating the living shit outta Nate. I dont even think Campbell could beat Urango.
Angulo V Rivera insert Denny Greens "they are who we thought they were" rant here as it went to plan, I will say this though Angulo is nothing special and is really just a hype job this guy will never be anything special, sure he will win a title because lets face it it is not hard to due there days but he will never be an elite fighter, exciting yes, elite fighter, NO Martinez V Cintron: This was such a bad fight on so many levels but let me say this, Cintron you have been my boy for quite a long time and you have been exciting and all but now is the time to hang it up and go in a diffrent direction, your heart is obviously not in it anymore as you should 0, zero, nada, none, no PASSION tonight, that thing after you got knocked down was whining and crying and you should have taken your second chance and swung for the fences but you just can't do it, do yourself, you family and the few fans you have left a fav and ride into the sunset kid. As far as Martinez is concerned, again another hype job as I had never seen him fight before and what I saw tonight the only time I want to see this guy in a ring is so that he can get laid right the fuck out as just to sight of this guy screams ANNOYING! He is nothing to be in awe about either, Angulo at this rate would take this guy Campbell V Funeka: Campbell is a tool, Funeka should have won, the...end...
I dont think Kermit the frog didnt have the passion... he just plain and simple didnt know to deal with Martinez's speed and awkwardness. He's a puncher, thats it. He landed a few good shots, but Martinez took them pretty well. Martinez just plain and simple clowned too much though. He should have took his ground, and opened up. Had he done that, the fight wouldnt have gone the distance. Cintron is a good fighter, but will never beat the elite. He should stay at 154 though. I'd make him a favorite over Angulo, Kirkland, and Julio. Martinez is a good fighter, probably the 2nd best at 154. Santos, and Forrest are both up there in age... but I doubt Martinez could beat Dzinziruk.
Cosme Rivera ISN'T the Type of Guy that U THUMP your Chest for Beating, but N Comparison to How Berto & Julio Fared Against him, REED thinks Angulo Looked GOOD.... Angulo was Cut Soooooooooo EASILY that REED HONESTLY Thinks Dude was Cut PRIOR to Tonight's Bout...That, OR his Skin is as TENDER as ANY Skin N the History of Boxing...HBO Showed a Headbutt that PROBABLY Caused the Damage, but REED is Still UNclear on what EXACTLY Led to it.... Nonetheless, Angulo was AGGRESSIVE, PRECISE & ACCURATE as Ever...Some Fightbeaters Compared him to Margarito but REED DOESN'T See it...Yeah, they're Both SLOW but Angulo Keeps a HIGH Guard & ISN'T as RECKLESS as Margarito is....Granted, Angulo's Chin ISN'T as Stout Either, but his Punches R TIGHTER & he Actually ACKNOWLEDGES Defense N a Way that Margarito DOESN'T...... Angulo's a MACHINE Offensively... REED:mj:
It's funny you should say that because I was so close to putting one in there that I actually started it and erased it. It was going to be about Boxeo showing only the Angeluo-Rivera fight, but I didn't know enough about the reasoning behind it so I didn't put it in there.
REED was HESITANT to Get on that Sergio Martinez Bandwagon, After he WAXED Alex Bunema...TODAY, REED Saw Why...Martinez Reminded REED of a TALENTED Boxer that's EASY to Leave OFF of Network Television...& Sure, he BEAT Cintron Tonight, but the Fight was Soooooooooooo UNeventful, U CAN'T Even Feel Bad for Martinez.... Nate was Fairly IMPRESSIVE Against Funeka...Considering his Issues @ the Scales, Nate HAD To Keep Himself Relevant, which is EXACTLY what he Did Against an Unknown, FREAKISH Opponent w/1 Shot Power... Nate's LEGIT @ 140... REED:bears:
Martinez reminded me of Calzaghe. When Calzaghe gets into his stupid showboating mode and drops his hands, that's what Martinez reminded me of tonight. Still Cintron sucks very much and he has to be matched with a specific style to be effective. He looked completely ameteurish out there and he goes "ouch" when he got dropped. .
That's what I've been saying for weeks, but to my surprise many of you were acting like I was mad, and that Mayo was just a gimme for Angulo. Angulo is likeable enough as a fighter, but he really is nothing special, eve this version of Mayo against Angulo is honestly a 50/50 fight.
Martinez was not exactly impressive last night, he's no Slappy Joe that's for sure. However, on the shitty stream I watched, boring as the fight was, he seemed to be handling Kermit with relative ease. And he got a draw?? What the fuck was up with that?
Cintron Lost that fight TWICE! \ The fight should have been stopped after he took a knee for 9.5 seconds... If I remember correctly, the ref said the words "Nine... TEN". At that point, the fight was over... He was the definition of "out". He got hit so hard he didn't know it was a punch that hit him. How he got a draw, I'll never Know...
Nate Campbell: “I had two knockdowns, of course I thought I won the fight. This guy was tough. He could punch, take a shot. He tried to keep me away with his jab, but body shots is how I win fights. His day will come….I felt fatigue from trying to make weight in rounds five, six and seven. I’m moving up to 140 pounds†(On lingering disappointment from failing to make weight) “I worked my whole life to be world champion, to be the best at what I do. Of course it hurts but the win feels good.†There's nothing at 140 lbs :shit:
Well, Hatton is the Golden Goose at 140. If he can't get a fight with him there aren't very many other paydays. If he can't make 135 anymore, he can't make 135. :dunno:
i think Bradley is the best of the bunch but they are all pretty closely matched. Campbell-Holt is a pickem.
All in all,it was a pretty weak night of fights. As KC said,Cintron lost that fight twice. I mean,he got up right in the middle of when the ref said 10! Should of lost the fight right their. How on earth he got a draw is beyond me:notallthere: Though with Martinez,I feel if he put a little more combos together,he could of taken Cintron out (which he should of after the 6th round). But seemed pleased just showboating for the entire fight. I thought Campbell lost the fight last night. Funkena is a pretty skilled boxer, but has an absolutely horrible chin to go anywhere too far. Again, all in all,a pretty terrible night of fights. I think watching the Cintron-Martinez bout pretty much killed the rest of the fight card for me!
from what i saw (on a pretty shoddy stream), both knockdowns were from punches that landed on his ear, thus fucking up his equilibrium.......the point is still valid because either way you look at it, he doesn't look hard to hurt, but it wasn't specifically his chin that was so non-resilient i thought Campbell just about won.....i think Lederman could have hardly been any more generous to Funkena.....Campbell's body work was pretty good i didn't see the Angulo fight, which is a shame cos it sounds like he edged a little bit closer to proving me right........i was laughed at at the mere suggestion that Mayorga might beat him.....i don't know who they are looking at for his next fight, but we aren't far off from finding out where his real level is Martinez impressed once again in a horribly officiated fight...which brought memories of Ottke-Reid flooding back is was that bad........i like Sergio's style, it is the closest to resembling Calzaghe's that i have seen......Joe's style is unique.....i first saw Martinez years ago (it has amazed me how long it has taken for him to get to this level - poor management must be to blame) ....and his style has developed since then, i think he must be a fan of Joe's
I maintain that Mayorga would beat up Angulo. I cant believe people think he's good. He's entertaining and has a fun style, but he is a bad KO waiting to happen.
I don't get how anyone thinks Funeka won. It was a fairly close fight but unless you give him every single round from 3 to 10 you can't have him winning. He clearly lost the first 2 rounds and the last 2 rounds. I don't think he swept the 8 in the middle.
Same here. I couldn't believe people were acting like he would just walk through Mayo, and Mayo was too easy an opponent.
Angulo looked fine given his opponent & the circumstances. Rivera has made very good fighters look average, and given Angulo's relative inexperience and the gushing wound he suffered early on, he did what he should have done - stayed focused, dominated, TKO. Anyone who downgrades Angulo based on this fight is confused. Cintron is a very good fighter, but his negatives prevent him from EVER being great. That said, the fight was really a disgrace from an officiating point of view, and Cintron lost. He did not deserve a draw by any possible stretch of the imagination. Being hit so hard that you are unaware you were hit is embarassing. HOWEVER, Martinez showed that when he meets even a "decent" opponent, he is relegated to running, bouncing, in & out potshotting and the like. Because of this, I am not all that excited about seeing him again, even though he is a very good fighter. Finally, I need to see Campbell again at 140 to determine whether or not the fatigue he suffered is just plain gettin' old or was weight related. Either way, I thought Nate comfortably won that fight and was stunned at Lederman's bad scorecard. Nate easily won a few of the 6 straight rounds from 4-9 that Lederman gave to Funeka, and was getting no credit for a brutal body attack and some devastating head shots. I think Nate won 6 or 7 rounds, and with 2 knockdowns it's a solid win. On Funeka - the guy's really good. He has all the tools he needs, but is raw and none too bright. He too easily got pushed into Nate's fight, and rarely took advantage of all the things that were there for him. Nate was dead tired after 6 rounds, and when Zuneka stayed outside and worked he was dominating. But nonetheless, Zuneka let Nate rest and lean on him half the fight, and constantly gave up distance and let Nate bull his way in and pound away, often trapping Zuneka dumbfoundedly on the ropes like a deer in headlights. Also, crying and mumbling in the corner for 5 minutes after the fight did not endear him to me. For gods sake buddy, you were almost unconscious several times during the fight, you got no one to blame but yourself, stop crying.
