WBA lightweight title update! The WBA lightweight “super-champion†title was renounced by Nate Campbell prior to his fight with Ali Funeka, but promoter Don King apparently had patched things up with the WBA before Campbell’s problem at the scale forced him to relinquish the belt. Paulus Moses is now the sole WBA lightweight champion. Should the Barrera-Kahn clash be approved by the WBO as a world title fight, Moses would be happy to face the winner for a unification, whereby a new WBA “super-champion†would be recognized. I checked boxrec and he´s 30 years old from Namibia and won the belt in Japan. Nicknamed the Hitman. Paulus "Hitman" Moses. With that name King needs to match him with a catholic nut :notallthere:
This is what I like about modern day boxing. The Champions are all recognizable to the general public. :bears::bears:
Can you imagine walking down the street and asking sports trivia questions? "For a 100 dollars, who is the new WBA lightweight champion?" ::
The 1000000 dollar question: Who is the WBA lightweight champion? A.) Joakim Noah B.) Jesus Christ C.) Paulus Moses D.) God Damn
this moses chap may be a certified killer in the ring, but has he ever killed anyone behind the wheel?
That's the second time I've seen reference to making the Khan-Barerra fight a sanctioned bout for the WBO bauble. Surely not even Werren can pull that off? MTF :dunno:
Commentators on a Paulus Moses title defense bout: "Oh, God! Moses has unleashed a plague of punches on his opponent who is thinking where all this fire & brimstone is coming. His corner is yelling, "Let my boxer go!" and is probably repentant of taking this fight.:boohoo:"
I have heard of the kid, but have not seen him in action. It looks like Don is manuervering Khan into position to be WBA Champ, which will mean huge bucks in England, huge.
Update news: the WBA has given Paulus Moses not only a cold shoulder, but , bending their own stupid rules, has shown him the middle finger when now they are sanctioning the Marquez-Diaz fight as a bout for the 'vacant WBA Lightweight Super Title'. It seems they prefer a 'name' boxer as "super champion' instead of the not-so-famous (less lucrative) Moses.::
Nah this has to do with their policy that a unified champion gets promoted to super-champion status and they install a regular WBA champion, as a sort of super-mandatory. Since the WBO already approved Diaz/Marquez the fight will be for the WBA/WBO titles.
Not quite, since there was no longer a 'superchamp' their rules stipulates that then the 'regular WBA champ' becomes super champ until he or someone else unifies titles. Marquez & Diaz disputing the vacant WBO had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the WBA supertitle. If one of them was already a WBA champ (like Moses), then it could be counted as a bout for the super champ title. This is a travesty.
