Bullshit! It wasnt a shut out... a very clear win, but no shutout.

I had Campbell winning 9-3. At the MOST you could have Diaz winning 4 rounds.

    But 12-0 Campbell?

I swear some ppl on this foum say some retarded shit.

True but that is not the point some of us are making. Xposivo's point about Diaz style for one thing isa valid point.

My point is that Diaz has defined his place. I would argue that the fight against Campbell was irrelevant. I say this because Diaz could beat Nate int eh future and a young guy coming up is entitled to make some mistakes take a loss or two (in a loaded division) etc.

But it is foolish to think that Diaz can compete at the elite level trying to overwhelm with activity. marquez showed the results of that. Diaz will never be an elite fighter. And with his style which depends on athletacism and duration he probably is looking at the very peak right now and should plan to be on the downhill side of the curve in a year or two.

I just don't think he will get better from here on out...

Dude its not always in the score. When Brazil beat the US soccar team in the world cup in the early 2000 year they beat the team with Alexis Lala. Some people were saying that team would go places... heres the thing:Brazil beat them 1-0. BUt... they also outclassed them it was obvious to anyone who knew the game.

Diaz will never fight at the level of Marque... he pulled a majorfiat by exposing Freit ass... that was comendable.

Texas is one of the few states Edwin Valero is licensed, so if he wins the vacant WBC his next fight, maybe once Diaz's wounds have healed they can work towards that fight.

Diaz is fighting again later this year, according to him and Oscar, probably against one of the winners in the round robin in Austin in April.

They have a lightweight card coming up with Joel Casamayor-Julio Diaz, Jorge Rodrigo Barriors-Carlos Hernandez and Michael Katsidis-Jesus Chavez.

It also features Edwin Valero-Antonio Pitalua, but Valero isn't with Golden Boy, he's with Top Rank, so his fight isn't really part of it.

That's a shame. A Valero-Diaz fight would be really entertaining.

The only matchups that even make sense for Diaz then are against either Casa, or Barrios. He's already beaten WHOlio Diaz, and Katsidis too convincingly to warrant a rematch.

Casa would have to be pretty shot to lose to mediocre WHOlio... but I think he really is THAT shot.

Not killed. But watching him get brutally KO'd again would bring a smile to my face, just as it did last night.

BTW - Valero would probably beat Diaz, but lets be honest... Juan would be by FAR the best opponent Valero has faced.

I never considered diaz a top fighter to begin with. top five lightweight, but that is about it. if that's what you meant then he's still in that mix.

Diaz came along at the right time, thats all.

He came into his prime when Corrales, and Castillo outgrew the division, and Casa became old.

If he had faced those 3 guys in thier primes... he'd have 3 more stoppage losses on his record.

While that might be true, but unless Valero loses to Pitula two of the remaining three fights are rematches I doubt anyone wants to see.

I'd venture to say if Casamayor beats Julio Diaz...Casamayor will get the call. Either that or the winner of Barrios and Carlos Hernandez.

I can't see Jesus Chavez beating Katsidis.

    Wrong. Corrales exposed Fruitass.

The Fruitass that Diaz beat was past his prime, and semi-retired.

Thats why as soon as I saw his face streeming... I knew the fight was over. Being cut against a 2nd rate guy like Nate Campbell is one thing. But being cut against one of the best sharp shooters of our era... the fight was a wrap soon as Marquez landed that left uppercut.

Yeah, X, I felt that way too. When I saw the blood and the worried look on Diaz's face I knew he was in for it. I mean I felt that he was on his way to losing the fight anyway, but at that moment I began to suspect that a KO was a definite possibility

You folks say what you will about Juan Diaz, but that was an epic battle he waged last night against a master craftsman.

He fought like a champion, and lost like a champion, he didn't quit, and went out on his shield.

As John L. Sullivan said: "To die like a man, you must live like a man!"
