Double thinks Chico would have beaten Kid Pambele... does anybody else feel the same way? Anybody who's actually SEEN Cervantes fight, and not just his loss to Pryor.

Me thinks Corrales gets waxed in under 6 rounds. Kid Pambele was just about as tall as Corrales, stronger, with a better jab and skills, MUCH better chin, and enough power in his right hand to put Corrales on his back.

Chico is one of my all time favs, but having seen several fights from a prime Cervantes... I give Chico nary a prayer in this fight.

Double I suggest you watch Cervantes' fight with Dejesus.... THEN tell me you think Corrales would have beaten him.

I think Cervantes is just too steady, too big and too skilled for Corrales... Diego may stun him early on, but I think he is ultimately too vulnerable to sharp counters and Cervantes would get their with his very nice, educated rght hand often enough to hurt Corrales, wear him down and stop him around the 7th or 8th... just a bigger and much better fighter

so you think if i watch a over-sized 140 pounder beat up a washed up light-weight, it will give me a good idea of how good Cervantes was?

i don't know who would've won this fight. but i do know that Chico had much faster hands.

it would depend on Cervante's reaction to Chico's attempts at getting inside. if he obliged Chico inside, I think he gets stopped.

but for now, i'll rescind my predicition because like I said the only Cervantes fight I've seen was his one-sided loss to Benitez and in that fight he was made to look like shit. and it's not as if Corrales could replicate what Benitez did. And Corrales also never beat anyone at above 135.

so it's probably not a responsible pick on my part. i don't know who would win it. but if you think Cervanted would, then I believe you.

LMAO at DeJesus being washed up when he fought Cervantes, if that is what you were reffering to

the fight took place in 1975 at the prime of Esteban's career, a full three years before his rubber match with Roberto Duran and Cervante's beat him impressively

And Benitez was a defensive wizard with blinding handspeed... and he hardly beat up Cervantes, he just outslicked him, the fight was actually something of a bore, despite Benitez's youthful brilliance

what THAT has to do with Corrales is beyond me...

Corrales had the defensive acuity of a lampost and the chin of a day trader... he was basically just a hard puncher with a ton of heart... DeJesus was a vastly superior fighter, and arguably hit just as hard while also being in a different league as a technician

Corrales gets hurt and beat in this fight

whether or not he was washed up he never accomplished anything above 135 and was fighting one of the bigger 140 pounders the division had ever seen. I don't think Cervantes' beating Dejesus at 140 was all that impressive.

In any case, if you think Cervantes beats Corrales at 140, I'm inclined to believe you, as I said to X. But I wouldn't point to his win over Dejesus as the credential that suggests it would be so.

Well Corrales never did shit above 135 either. Dejesus was a superior fighter to Corrales, as Cdogg said. And Corrales would enjoy no size, or height advantage over Cervantes.

Chico is prob one of my top 10 all time fav fighters, but I'm not blind about him. He was a very good fighter... but Cervantes was a great one.

The only two guys who beat Cervantes in his prime were Locche, and Benitez.... both brilliant boxer/defensive technicians. And he avenged his loss to Locche.

you were the one who said it was a win against a washed up opponent

why dont you just admit you don't know what you're talking about?

why don't you just admit that a junior welter-weight beating up an under-sized light-weight moving up isn't all that impressive?

You make it sound like Cervantes was some giant and that DeJesus was moving up to 147, gimme a break

its 5 pounds, and in those days you actually went into the ring in your weight class... its not like Cervantes was 152 and Dejesus was 142, like it would be now

Using your logic, your hero Castillo got knocked out by a Junior Lightweight in Corrales and lost by decision to a Junior Lightweight in Mayweather

its ridiculous... DeJesus was in the prime of his career and the second best 135 pounder in the world behind Duran (whom he beat once, and competetively lost to in the remaining two fights)

You think Duran would have lost to Cervantes? of course not

Cervantes was not a natural 140 pounder either... he started out much lighter

furthermore, you said he was washed up... that means you had no prior knowledge of the fight and you certainly havent seen it

you cant take saying that back... it was a profoundly ignorant statement and underscores how unimformed you are about Cervantes and about Esteban DeJesus
