    Dunne - Cordoba Rd1

Cordoba's reach allows him to pick off dunne with the jab, two right hands land as well, dunne looking for opening but not working hard enough

Nice technical fight so far. Close round, Cordoba takes it due to getting best of the last exchange.

Dunne clearly the more powerful puncher, he gets the better of the xchange when they trade hooks, Cordoba wobbled, but he still is more efficient with the jab. Accidental clash of heads, Dunne has a cut above left eye, another close round.

Dunne wobbles him with hook again, nice clash of styles so far. Cordoba drops Dunne, close to end? Dunne wobbly, stadium quiet, commentators quiet, all out war, Dunne dropped again...Ref afraid to stop fight

Dunne groggy, cordoba still reacts badly when Dunne's hook lands. Cordoba more accurate with jab. Close round, Dunne landing harder shots, Cordoba landing more frequently and more accurately.

dunne a bit more ragged, cordoba reaching him often with right jab, dunne effective in spots but cordoba outworking him IMO

both guys a bit weary and vulnerbale, you'd expect cordoba's championship experience to count at this point. The difference between cordoba and dunne's jab is that once Dunne lands it, he steps back to admire it, while cordoba uses it to set up his left. Big shots by both guys, I think this could end before the distance for either guy. Good round for Dunne, Cordoba looking very ragged towards the end.

    rd Dunne

Cordoba comes out busy, but leaving his jab out to hang a bit, Dunne picking him off a bit...commentator says he has dunne up by a few rds, wtf...good rd for Dunne

I can't see Cordoba losing a decision at this point but with the crowd on his side, and his edge in power, it migth sway things..another KD would be conclusive IMO

    rd 10
Dunne tired, cordoba down!! another KD! and another!! Cordoba is KO'ed!!!! fucking draamtic stuff, great fight, cordoba still unconscious

Dunne officially threw the Martinez fight. Showed a lot of heart to come back from the two 5th round knockdowns. Hope some picked up the link, well worth watching.

For my money he was. :partie::partie:

I didn´t think he had it in him. Shocking result. When I saw him live on the undercard of Abraham/Ikeke, there was a large Irish support for him, but the only time they absolutely went nuts was when Laila Ali came ringside. Dunne could have left the ring and nobody would have noticed it.

You can be an asshole sometimes. But yes, the commentators are abysmal, including dave boy macAuley, sports bring out the most cringe-inducing nationalism here. Bernard Dunne is now top 6-10 anyhow, he's always be part of one of the best fights of 2009, even though he won't last long.

edit: I take back first part, read it wrongly and responded in kind

Geez...way to spin this into a "positive" for Vitali.

It's not necessary...sometimes a crap fight is just a crap fight. Props to Vitali for a win...and a win is a win is a win as they say...but let's not pretend that Gomez was a serious threat to win this fight.

yea it was a bad fight he just didn't perform at all, but he got the win and thats all that matters. i rated gomez as a cruiserweight but he just doesn't cut the mustard as a heavyweight (who cuts mustard by the way? just spread it, it's easier). i think vitali could prove to be the calzaghe of the heavyweights, not in that he throws loads of punches, but that he looks amateurish and awkward alot of the time but is tough as hell and just ridiculously hard to beat.

such as who though? i honestly cant think of anyone good enough or in hayes case, big enough, to beat him. it might be that hes not that great or that the competition around him just isn't up to scratch, i dont know, i actually think he would have done quite well if he was in the mix with the early 90's heavyweights, but hey, yea

I do think that was a positive result for Vitali and I agreed earlier that it was not an aestethic fight. Also Gomez was ranked to top-10 by all independend rankings that I have seen. That is all I am pointing out, if you see that as spinning, that is ok.

C'mon...you know that rankings aren't always worth the paper they are printed on. Using rankings to prove a fighters worth (as opposed to actual accomplishments) is about as valid as going by "official decisions" when it is clear that the judges made a bum call.

I was not talking about alphabets (Gomez was no number one contender of course) but all of boxing media had him pretty high regardedand he was coming off of a good win. So he was not the best division had to offer but a worthy defense IMHO. Of course it is not a victory which would define fighters' place in history
