Edwin Valero vs. Amir Khan? It’s possible.

Bob Arum, Valero’s promoter, said he discussed a potential July matchup of the budding young stars with Frank Warren, Khan’s promoter, when he was visiting friends in England last week.

Valero, a complete fighter who has stopped every one of his opponents, must first get past a tough assignment in slugger Antonio Pitalua on April 4 in Austin, Texas.

Valero, moving up in weight, and Pitalua are fighting for the vacant WBC lightweight title.

“That’s a tough fight,†Arum said of Pitalua. “If he comes through, we’re going to maybe put him in with Amir Khan. I spent time with (Warren) at an Arsenal soccer game. He likes the idea. Freddie (Roach, Khan’s trainer) doesn’t think much of Valero.â€

Valero (24-0, 24 knockouts) would be a strange choice for Khan, who is coming off a sensational victory over Marco Antonio Barrera[IMG] on March 14 but was stopped in one round by Breidis Prescott two fights earlier. Khan might be in over his head.

And while insiders are excited about Valero’s immense potential, he doesn’t have the name recognition to generate a lot of money. In other words, for Khan, Valero might too big of a risk for too little gain.

On the other hand, as Roach said, a fighter with a weak chin can learn to protect it. And Khan, who also has great natural ability, seems to be learning quickly under Roach in Hollywood, Calif.

Valero is THE RING’s No. 1-rated junior lightweight

Valero will have to dig deep against Khan and use his long abandoned boxing skills. He can't just go face-first and head hunt Khan.

This is another winnable fight for Trashkhan. Valero is slow, sloppy and amateurish. He has a decent punch though, which evens things up a huge amount against fine china trashkhan.

no way warren's putting khan in against a guy with 24 kos in 24 fights - unless perhaps warren and khan's contract is coming to an end and this is warren's way to cash out (a la hatton-zoo).

yeah could be.....Valero from what i have seen isn't the best boxer....his chin way up in the air, easy to hit....Khan could probably box circles round him....but the punch power would be more than just a leveller in my opinion

It could be seen simply as the easiest route to a title.....Marquez is a class above and Khan himself has admitted that he is not ready for such a step up yet.

Warren has a number of options, Valero appears to be one....and i should think another would be Paulus Moses (WBA belt - Marquez is 'super champ')

Warren is in a tricky position....he hasn't been hesitant in the past to apply the brakes on one of his prospect's progress....yet with Khan, he has every right to proceed with caution as the Prescott fight underlined.....however, he is under pressure from the Khan camp to secure a world title shot within the next couple of fights....and also under pressure from sky to pit Khan in contests worthy of PPV status

The fight doesn´t go more than three rounds, 80/20 Khan will be the one getting counted out.

They would never ever throw Khan in with a puncher like Valero. No way will this fight happen.

Why is it stupid for Khan? If Valero wins his next fight it would be for a title.

Valero es el mierda. If Manny ducks JMM after he fights Hatton i would love to see JMM and Valero. That could possibly be better then JMM-Diaz.

Try 100-0. Khan has skills but he doesn't have the power to KO Valero.

Valero is too dangerous for the $ he brings in, even with a title at stake.

You should spar with him, and rate him based on how badly he beats you up.

    Is that so?

Why don't you just show up Saturday and see if any motherfucker kicks my ass?

My ass ain't getting kicked bro, in Austin, or anywhere else.

For you and just for you, I have a surprise coming up in the near future concerning a fighter whom you like.

Typing and smart ass remarks on a message board stop to a point, and someone with the balls to actually do something in person in boxing then takes over while posters live vicariously through their physical deeds as they lack the balls themselves to ever try it.

I'll be waiting for this death whipping, and come Sunday, I'll still be here as no swinging dick is gonna take me, including Valero.

Valero would beat the shit out of you. He beats up HOF fighters in the gym and he would beat your ass. No need to get mad getting beat up by a great fighter is nothing to be ashamed of.

Valero is a little slow for his size, and appears awkward, but I think his boxing skills are under-rated.

I base this opinion particularly on his fight with Mosquera in which he was hurt early on and had to fight off the back foot for several rounds before he finished Mosquera off.

I'm not so sure Khan's speed and quickness can't be diffused by Valero's commitment to the jab and his ability to circle his opponent effectively.

I haven't see the tale of the tape so it depending on the fighters' respective heights, this could be a bigger challenge than I think, but I just can't see Khan standing up to Valero.
